Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - FUCK NO SPORTING GOODS STORES

This seem to have come with the latest version.
I found a similar house, all boarded up. But it seemed to be more of a "Don't dead, open inside" kinda deal, cause the only supplies I found was zombies.
I've also encountered other house types, like a swanky modern stone house with pool and glass walls, and houses with garages.
I think they have somewhat spesific loot.
Yeah, I saw one of those houses with a garage as well. Almost moved into it, but I realized it wouldn't have been big enough for my APC whenever I get around to building it.

How recent are the additon of Mutagen serums?
On a related note: Containment labs are terrifying!
I never expected that a ASCII game could be that unsettling.
You mean of the specific mutagens, like rat, cattle, spider, etc.? 0.7 or 0.8, although they just now in 0.A added in more genetic groups and specific mutagens for them.

Last time I visited one there was literally nothing inside.
Recently I've been turned-off from making a new char because I always think about how long it takes to get going and I've never survived more than a few days.
Of course it's not a bad thing per se, it's just that I've been wanting to get into the game again but I never find a good opportunity to do so because it's such a big investment of time.
I think I'll wait until the NPC update.

Don't get me wrong, I'm dying to play again but it's so easier to just boot-up an arcade game and do a couple of match and be satisfied that the temptation to go with the fast satisfaction route is really big.

Not even loot?
Mine had sounds of shrieking children and banging on the walls all around me, and the occasional abomination behind glass. Being under equipped I just grabbed the mutagens and got the hell out of there, I don't trust those cells no matter how reinforced that glass is.
And I didn't even get to try it out before I got myself killed in a overly stupid fashion.

Yes, I found some Lupine, Insect, etc. As well as a notebook with recipes for some of them.
Yeah, lupine is new, insect is old. Each one is specific to an individual genetic grouping of traits - positive and negative - that you can find on the wiki. I tend to take Robust Genetics to help when doing mass mutagen sprees.
Yeah, I can't not take Robust Genetics when creating characters, I'm a compulsive mutator...
I like how Cats can be tamed now. In vanilla/Wales Cataclysm Cat Food was pretty much just among the most disgusting edibles. I actually had a Cat approach me while I had a can on me and upon using it said "The Cat eats the food and is now friendly towards you. Or just more tolerant of you. Kinda hard to tell with cats........".
Sadly, it got torn to shreds by a wandering Dog as the Cat was trying to kill a Rattlesnake, showing once again that the common Cat is not a terribly great companion in a Roguelike.
Speaking of mutations, is there any way to increase your stats aside from CBMs and mutations?
It'd be funny if downing some bottles of protein shake and, I dunno, push some heavy furniture around for a day would make you buff as hell.

Weightlifting and training sounds like a cool feature actually.

Now let's invent some amigara horror food!
But there already is.

And agility training by juggling items, with varying difficulty from rocks to chainsaws.

Nope, purely character generation and mutations. And CBMs now, pretty sure those are new to 0.A.
Currently on year 5 of survival, pretty much learned every recipe in game nearly
For some reason the weather gets more fucked up the longer you survive so its snowing in summer now
Do I remember correctly that someone mentioned there being talk about adding height, or rather sky Z-levels earlier in the thread, as well as flying vehicles?
I wonder what the chances for me building an armoured heli-fortress are.
The highlight of my game yesterday was assembling a vehicle that pretty much is a shopping cart for the front and back with a seat, controls, a foot crank/bicycle pedals and an additional set of shopping cart wheels in the middle. Surprisingly can hit 47 MPH, which was enough to pulp a Moose that happened to get in the way. I've read people have cobbled together much more impressive franken-icles, but making a bicycle/shopping cart hybrid really amused me more than it probably should have.

I don't know about flying vehicles, I know flying creatures were a goal after they got z-levels working. I think 0.B is going to be for NPCs and then 0.C will be z-levels.

Yeah I had it snow in summer once, I dunno what's up with that. Not that I was really complaining, it was nice to not have to duck inside a building every 2-3 minutes to avoid heat stroke.
So I just found a katana, and cut down a zombie scientist with just two strikes before it even managed to retaliate.
Is there some hidden property to it that makes it so effective?
I know it got high damage and all, but I didn't expect it to be that powerful without any skill in cutting and melee.
As I recall its attack speed is pretty high, and it has the rapid setting which means it's possible for it to get in multiple shots per swing. But honestly not really, the high damage is the big thing. 38 cutting is ridiculous, I carry one on my character from 0.8/0.9.
I do find it hilarious that a bedroll or similar is deployed as a trap and therefore you can't deploy it at your feet.

I am so fucking glad they added in a diminishing returns to the guilt from killing child zombies. Schools used to be just about morale death wishes, but after killing plenty I went through one with a few dozen metal arrows - thank you for reducing the weight again devs - and racked up perfect indifference, a few books I didn't have, and a ton of food.
Apathy truly is a survivor's greatest weapon.
Whenever I encounter any of the games otherwordly shit I always think to one of my playthroughs where I walked into a town and found it infested with hell portals and a bunch of insanity monsters oozing directly out of satans asshole. Like they were all spilling out the demolished remains of some dudes bathroom and infesting the town like something out of John Dies At The End.
It's still not one of the worst starts I've had though. That'd go to the one where the evac bunker was situated a few miles off of a fungal tower.
I think the best trick I've learned in the game so far was weaponizing bear traps
you can just throw them down on the ground as something's charging you and not only will it cause damage but you get a few hits in too as that thing cruelly snaps around its leg
it's even reusable and can kill mid sized mammals in one hit
the only downside is it's a big load in the inventory
If I know where something nasty is that I don't think I can handle easily with what I've got, like a hulk or something psychotic like that, I'll take a couple bear traps and use them to stop him. Damned useful. 30lbs each is nasty though, even with a 14 strength that's just about half my weight cap.
