So if I make a fireplace indoors (the one that need 40 rocks), it's safe right?
[editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
I wonder if it's possible to make a car frame but only to use it for the mini-fridge.
[editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
I got over my cigarette addiction, yeah!
Yeah, on my old character I had a stone fire place in the basement of an Evac shelter, doesn't produce smoke.
Yeah, you can use car frames for things like welding carts and lights so a fridge shouldn't be a problem.
I used to make floodlights for lighting up large underground areas I'd be living in, all you need is a story battery some frames and a couple of flashlights.
So are piercing weapons new? What's the difference between them and bashing and cutting weapons?
So are piercing weapons new? What's the difference between them and bashing and cutting weapons?
All I know is that I've been using a Rapier since I found it the other night and it is amazing.
So are piercing weapons new? What's the difference between them and bashing and cutting weapons?
Piercing weapons have been in as long as I can remember. I don't know exactly how they work, but I have some limited experience with them. Cutting deals higher damage in general, but is bad against armored targets - and will, at lower strength and skills, get stuck in targets like skeletons and smokers. Bashing deals solid damage all around, which makes things like baseball bats great early game weapons. Piercing damage tends to be lower, but has a higher chance to crit - better for higher skill levels where your accuracy and crit rate are higher. Piercing tends to also have the fastest weapons, while blunt has the slowest.

I see absolutely nothing that should prevent you from installing or removing items. The top of the vehicle menu even has 'install' and 'repair' lit up showing they're available. I have no idea what the problem is.
[editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
Okay, so my vehicle problem was solved by me updating to a later revision. Which introduced a couple funny bugs:
1)when animated rain is on and it's raining, parts of whatever menu you were in previously rapidly flash in and out.
2) when you do things like examining and closing, your character moves one step down until you choose the item, complete with updated vision. I ended up looking through a closed door that way.
Edit: On closer inspection 2) actually does a more annoying version of 1)
[editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
Fuck, now I'm forced to install headlights due to this bug, it refuses to let me back out of the menu. I can't even escape it with alt-F4.
[editline]19th March 2014[/editline]
Is there an archive of all the different DDA builds? The jenkins doesn't seem to keep more than the last 2 for whatever reason.
If you're using a nightly build I genuinely cannot help you, there's so much craziness that could happen in those builds. As for an archive, the only ones I think they keep are the release versions and the last few nightly builds.
It was my fault for trying to just replace the files instead of deleting them then adding the new ones. I'm not getting any problems now, got myself up to mechanics 5 even.
At 23 skill you can install as many engines as you want, currently i have 8 V8's in my car

23 skills? I imagine you're not playing with skill rust?
Woohoo, made my welder cart! Time to do something...
about something...
Make sure to leave the welding goggles on your cart so you've always got them handy. I forgot one time and spent like ten minutes trying to figure out why I couldn't repair anything.
So I guess the easiest vehicle to make is a motorized shopping cart?
Am I getting this right?
So zoose (zombie moose) are a thing now.
Gah. Fuck. There has to be an animal spawner around my base, because there's ALWAYS like 10 wolves and other animals hanging around.

Wilderness areas always spawn animals, you can't clear it out.
AKA free food forever.
I've been training fabrication with the intention of making myself a nice set of weapons/armour, but as far as I can tell with the wiki, you can't actually make decent weapons with fabrication? :(
I assumed that since there was a book called The Swords of the Samurai you'd be able to, you know, craft a sword of the samurai :(

You can make weapons at like fab 12 or something like that. You probably haven't been able to learn the recipe from the book, which is usually a pain in the ass with low int.

To make? Pretty much. Put an electric motor on it, a seat and some controls and you're good to go. Maybe add a solar panel for free charging. The easiest to really get a hold of is an electric car. Just find one missing wheels and strip some off a different car. Park it by your house, repair it, - suggest using the vehicle welding rig cart for this, because it'll take a lot of batteries otherwise - replace any destroyed parts, and you're good to go. You can even put some extra headlights on it facing every which way to make it easier to see at night.

That's fucking horrifying.

Most recipes are in books now. You can make both armor and weapons with high fabrication skills, assuming you have all the right tools, but almost all of the recipes will be in books.

I've actually been searching the wiki for the recipes in books, but haven't seen any. I didn't realise there were any recipes that you learn >10 fabrication so I guess that's all I'm waiting for :)
I don't know how up to date the wiki is, or how complete the information is. Pretty sure the update team for it is really small.
That's fucking horrifying.
I literally didn't even notice it until after I had butchered it because it shares the same color as the regular moose. Seemed about as tough.
So, what's the best way to aquire long ropes?
I'm currently scavenging seatbelts from cars and make ropes from that.
Also, gotta love having a crossbow with underslung flamethrower :v:

Man, you should totally be allowed to light bolts on fire with that.
Long ropes? Seatbelts probably. You can find them in sporting goods stores sometimes, and I think hardware stores. You can also craft sinew up to them, which gives a good use for sinew.
Man, you should totally be allowed to light bolts on fire with that.
Aw, that would be awesome! You can craft fire, and explosive bolts/arrows though.
Think you need to light them manually, though the flamethrower lighting them automatically would make sense.

Yeah, I started out with sinew/thread, but that got unbelievably tedious.
I'll probably keep looting cars 'till I find a sporting goods store then.

I'd add the link to your bookmarks.

It's exceedingly tedious, yeah. Don't forget you can also smash or deconstruct curtained windows for their strings. Most bows also tend to disassemble into long strings as well.

Opera's giving me a connection issue.
Edit: Oh wait nevermind, there it goes.
It's exceedingly tedious, yeah. Don't forget you can also smash or deconstruct curtained windows for their strings. Most bows also tend to disassemble into long strings as well.
I did that as well. While the petty vandalism was fun, it was only marginally less tedious than starting from threads/short strings.
After I have gathered enough rope to make another cargo space I shall begin my quest and search for the fabled sporting goods store, or a semi truck.
I wonder if they are ever going to add zombie zombies.
[editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
or zomzombies
[editline]20th March 2014[/editline]
otherwise known as zoombies
If you blow up 10 V8 engines in your car at once, it blows up bigger than a nuke.
And thats the story how i died.
Is it considered spoilery to talk about rare/new CBMs?
Cuz:[sp]Whoo! Tazer-hands![/sp]
Do you guys save-scum a lot, just a little bit in case of bugs (or experimentation) or not at all?
I just save scum when I want to experiment with something I haven't do before, but in any other case I consider it final.
How... how do I drive a car?
