Do you guys save-scum a lot, just a little bit in case of bugs (or experimentation) or not at all? I just save scum when I want to experiment with something I haven't do before, but in any other case I consider it final.
Never. That's the fun of a rogue-like. Whenever I die, it's somehow my fault, so it's fair to learn from that and not just undo your mistake.
How... how do I drive a car?
I've been playing this game for a couple of weeks now and I've yet to drive a car anywhere but forward into a wall - turning and reverse did not seem to be options. And even that was only once, mostly they don't move at all. Currently I'm trying to find a welder to put a new seat into an RV because I'm thinking that might be the problem. No seat, no drive, even with gas, battery power and controls. Oh and wheels.
With cruise control on, you have to be careful about how much you accelerate. The speed will reach whatever you set it as and stay there until you either change the speed again or hit something it can't plow through. Turning takes time, and other than jerking the car back and forth the only way to actually go forward is to use the wait command.
I can't actually figure out how to take control of the car, examining it either opens the vehicle menu, or if I examine the tile where the controls are, pops up the Vehicle Controls window where I can turn the engine, headlights, cruisecontrol etc, off/on.

If it works you'll get a message saying something like 'You now have control of the car' or something like that. Usually I get nothing.
Move to the tile with the controls on it, then use ^.
Yeah, I'm not getting anything. I suppose the seat is broken, does that matter? Everything else is fine.
Yeah, I'm not getting anything. I suppose the seat is broken, does that matter? Everything else is fine.
I don't know exactly what you need; like I say, I've never managed to drive a bleeding vehicle more than a few steps into a wall! There doesn't seem to be anything I've found which really explains how to drive, just the basic commands which are useless if the thing doesn't move. Everything I've worked out has been through trial and error (lots and lots of error). It could be that you need a proper seat to drive; that's what I've working on now. If once I've managed to get a new seat in it still doesn't work I'll have to think of something else that it could be.
I'm pretty sure you need an intact seat for it to work. I assume you've also double-checked both the fuel gauge and the battery?
I'm pretty sure you need an intact seat for it to work. I assume you've also double-checked both the fuel gauge and the battery?
Yes, it has enough wheels, an engine, gas, and battery power. The only thing broken is the driver's seat.
Yes, it has enough wheels, an engine, gas, and battery power. The only thing broken is the driver's seat.
Yep, there's yer problem. luckily it's easy to replace. Don't forget seatbelts.
Killed 47 zombies no problem, zombie child shows up and I just can't hit him apperently [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] What is easier static or dynamic spawn?
Killed 47 zombies no problem, zombie child shows up and I just can't hit him apperently [editline]20th March 2014[/editline] What is easier static or dynamic spawn?
I believe the Dynamic setting spawns zombies after a set amount of time, as opposed to have them spawn at the start of the game. There might be more to it that I don't know about, though. Perhaps it also have a rising spawn rate? I'm guessing at this point, could probably find out in the wiki though.
You can't clear out towns in dynamic mode afaik
You can't clear out towns in dynamic mode afaik
Oh, I didn't know that. That'll be somewhat inconvenient..
Yeah. In static, zombies only spawn once when a cell is generated. With enough patience and effort you can clear entire towns. Also, the Marlin 39A is pretty beast for early game. Well, at least when you have a lot of ammo for it. Found one with 100 rat shots and 200 normal rounds.
seriously. fuck rats. I went into a rat cave with a shitload of buck-shot, inced and frag rounds for my grenade launcher. killed like 50 of em, then used the inced against the rat-king. fire went everywhere, and I wasn't able to get any loot because i was running the fuck out of there.
Sounds pretty rad if you ask me.
it would be but if i ever go down there again that smoke would just practically kill me anyways. wait can you use a gas-mask to go through smoke?
it would be but if i ever go down there again that smoke would just practically kill me anyways. wait can you use a gas-mask to go through smoke?
Your story inspired me to make this: Don't know why, it popped-up in my head.
I'm not sure if I just fucked it up, but to turn on static spawn mode do I have to go to world setting before making a world and turn on "static spawn"?
it would be but if i ever go down there again that smoke would just practically kill me anyways. wait can you use a gas-mask to go through smoke?
That would be what they're designed for, yes. For the longest time I carried around one to put on in case of emergencies. If you change it in the options, it'll only affect anything made after the change.
Does it make a difference whether you use a welder or duct tape to install parts? Even if it doesn't, I don't think I can bring myself to attach something like an engine with some tape. I'd keep expecting it to fall out.

Trust me, it will hold. Only if it's blue though.
NPC Citter mortal combat is happening outside while i'm reading 20 books in a house
Hmm, it looks like you don't need specifically a seat to control your vehicle. I installed controls in another part of my car so i could activate my overhead light a bit more conveniently, and out of curiosity, tried to control my car from a cargo space tile. I'm guessing it'll work as long as you're standing something other than the base frame?
To drive it you need a seat, or possibly a bed will work as well. To toggle controls, you just need it to be accessible. I had some installed into a wall on my APC in the back, for toggling turrets. Although I didn't actually have any, it was still nice.
Are you sure? I could accelerate, but didn't dare to drive too far as I was standing in the very back of my van with no visibility. I'd try turning with it a bit if I wasn't currently stuck in a house because of acid rain. Yup, I can steer it from the back of my van. Might be a new thing, or an oversight on the attributes for the cargo space?
Wait, will acid rain fuck with my car if I have one?
Acid rain effectively only damages or harms creatures. So no. Since they removed acid puddles and item wear for items on the ground out in acid rain, it's completely harmless if you yourself are not out in it. [editline]21st March 2014[/editline] Well, aside from keeping you stuck inside for however long it lasts, that's a bitch. Always fun when you start to run back with loot and OH LOOK GREEN RAIN
