Yeah, I'm guessing basic eye protection akin to safetyglasses.
The description mention that your tearducts are re-routed, so immunity to eye affecting toxins seems to make sense.
I'm currently looking for boomers to see if I'm still affected by them (probably, but I'll do it for science).
I'm not sure but my zomkid massacre was spread over a couple of days. The first day it tanked, the second day I noticed I was getting the 'you feel terrible' message but my morale wasn't actually being affected. And then the messages stopped altogether.
So I think you just have to kill enough of them and eventually you get inured to it.
I do remember someone mentioning something like this earlier in the thread, but I thought it like the accumulation rate of guilt would lessen as you killed zomkids, and reset when the mood disappeared.

Whoo! Go you!

[sp]In keymap.txt, you have to first uncomment it, then bind it to a key[/sp]. Semi pointless heads up: its old default key has a use now(it toggle different zoom degrees).
Spoilered to assure the handful of people who don't know how to activate it and wish to not have that knowledge do not acquire it.
[del]What is this shit? You can't re-pack the folding bicycle!
Well, that was a good waste of welder batteries...[/del]
Oh! Wait, I'm stupid...
Figured it out...

It's a specific number. I killed over the course of a few weeks, then headed to a school when the morale hit was around 5-6 points. By the time I finished the school, I was immune to child zombies' guilt trips. The best way to combat it early if you need to craft or read is candy, especially stuff like chocolate bars.

I've found it better to stick to a house and not the shelter, due to the massive amount of windows in the shelter making it nearly impossible to have good defenses. Since you've already cleaned out a house, you've got one you know is safe to drop loot in. Pick up heavy sticks and smash or disassemble - preferably disassemble - wooden furniture for 2x4s to make into wood crossbow bolts or arrow shafts, plus rocks and bones from butchered animals for field point arrows for the bow.
.
I find the image of somebody taking out a school-load of zombie kids, and then comfort eating candy morbidly amusing...
Think I also hit the cap recently, I got mobbed by several parks worth of zomkids.

Ah the joys of food and its affect on Cataclysms DDA morale. One of my favourite quotes from the forums sums it up nicely:
"I can barely be moving due to my skin melting to acid rain while carrying a giant V8 engine, but it's alright because those are some damn good toast 'ems."

To stay safe in the shelter you just need to use the basement. I put stick pits all around my shelter and it still didn't keep the Zombie dogs and Bears out. After I boarded up my window/door for about the 20th time I gave up, crafted some light sticks and moved most of my stuff downstairs. Since then it's been gravy.

Actually it's even better than that; one of the best sources of candy of all kinds is child zombies.

Yeah, but that's a whole extra pain in the ass I really don't want to deal with. Makeshift beds are also not as effective to sleep on as normal beds, and you may not catch as much daylight to hunt or scavenge during if you're underground.
Does anyone here know what the bionic 'Protective Lenses' actually does? I've installed it going on the description which sounded like something my near sighted Faith would want. Perhaps it would mean she wouldn't have to wear glasses anymore (nope), perhaps it would provide straight eye protection from physical attacks, perhaps from gas or toxins?
Even after being installed though I can't see any hint as to their actual function.
I might be confusing it with another bionic, but I believe it gives you immunity to glare (which normally minuses perception) and also acts as welding goggles.

You're probably thinking of anti-glare lences.

True. Not an issue with my current game as she pays little attention to time (night vision) and as an insomniac I don't really care about having a set sleep pattern. I sleep when I'm tired and only if it's convenient.
I used a house in my previous 0.9 game, although again it was a basement with a bed in it that I managed to find while I was detoxing as a hobo; but in this one her evac shelter has a town to the north, a town to the west, a town to the east and a town to the south and it's right in the middle. It also has fields directly north and forest directly south, so plently of ready meat and wood. The location is just too good to give up although I have various temporary bases scattered around.
Ya know what would be a great addition to the game?
Side view mirrors. Driving RVs and such can be incredibly awkward at times.
Also, on the issue of the underground; do the spawn rate on the overworld act differently (stops?) when you spend time underground?

Not that I've noticed.
SURVIVED A DAY!
How did I do it? Does anybody care? Probably not, but I'm gonna type it anyway :).
I started off by making a crowbar after breaking a locker in the shelter, then used the crowbar to break into a house on the edge of a town. The house had three zombies in it, but the bow I started with using the bowman job was just enough to kill them all. Inside the house I found a trench coat which I equipped for extra storage space and then I just looted as many drinks bottles as I could carry. I then cooked up some Moose meat after being attacked (and nearly killed) by a moose, and ate some of it while putting some away in lockers. After recovering a little from the near death experience with the moose I went back to the house I had broken into before and butchered all the corpses in the area. I also found a crossbow trap and disarmed that to get a crossbow, which I made arrows for by breaking the benches in the shelter. By this point it was getting quite late so I found a hose, siphoned as much petrol as I had empty bottles for and then went to sleep in the shelter - waking up because of the cold twice. It's now day two, I'm still alive!
Gonna try find a screwdriver so I can disassemble a bed and try to get the blanket to make a makeshift bed.
Man I love your adventures, keep writing. Brings... nostalgia.
You can also siphon gas from other cars with a rubber hose, you can find one by disassembling, or smashing a fridge.
Messed up sleep cycles can be annoying, I tend to take some cough syrup (if ambien is unavailable), or some beer or alcohol if I happen to find it.
Though if you have a light source, you could get som reading done instead.
My favourite way of transfering fuel from an abandoned car to my car is removing the gas tank from that car and installing it into mine.
If you don't have a gas tank on every tile of your car you should really get on my level.
Not that I've noticed.
It's just that in an earlier game, I took to sleeping in a cellar because of a zombear infestation.
I had to kill one every morning, and at one point I woke up with a zombear chewing on my torso...
But after I started spending the nights in the cellar, I didn't have any more encounters for over a week.
May have been a coincidence, though, I have only done this in one game.

Hah! Great minds think alike! :v:
I only got five tanks, though.
I think I read on the wiki somewhere that above ground basically pauses when you sleep underground, but I can't find it now.

Er, about that... You're in for a bit of disappointment. The logic is sound (I thought the same thing way back a few weeks ago when I first started playing and also couldn't sleep well because of the cold) but disasembling a bed will not give you a blanket. It will however give you a sheet which you can then cut up into rags and use for making a blanket. You can make a wooden needle if you don't have a sewing kit (although I'm not sure what skills you need for that) and if you don't have enough thread you can dissasemble a rag.
For keeping warm, dropping a sheet down or any spare clothes and then sleeping on the pile will mean your character will automatically use them to keep warm. If you have killed three zombies you should have some spare clothes.
Also, you've probably already noticed but if you need more sheets just break some windows.
Are you able to chop down trees or something? Or is the only way to get wood is by smashing benches?

Funny you should mention that. That's being added in the next version and is currently available in the experimental.
Are you able to chop down trees or something? Or is the only way to get wood is by smashing benches?
Yes. With a wood axe, chainsaw that is on, or I think one of a few other tools, you can chop down adjacent trees via the construction menu - asterisk key (*).
[editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
You will need a wood saw to cut the resulting logs into planks.
[editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
Or maybe also a wood axe. I can't remember, I haven't gone tree hunting in a while.
I think it's just a cutting tool of a certain level. I'm not sure though, because I always had a wood axe on me. I always carried all the tools on me. Probably why he died.
Didn't the bow hunter not start with the combat knife anymore or something?
So does the difficulty increase over time in this game? I've been using the shelter with curtains closed and haven't had anything get anywhere near it.
DAY TWO ADVENTURES:
Woke up at 4am freezing my tits off and thought bollocks to it, so I looked up the nearest petrol station on the map and went over there to fill some bottles with petrol for if I ever get a car. On the way there I was attacked by a moose which by the influence of several gods I was able to kill in a single hit from my crossbow (headshot!). At this point my heart was racing (both in game and in real life) so I butchered the creature and took the meat back for some 5am cooking sessions. Midway through cooking it started to rain so I just shoved everything in a locker and used the warmness I'd gained from the fire to get another 3 hours sleep in.
Went on an epic quest to a mansion for exploration purposes, ended up shooting about 15 zombies dead with crossbow bolts and looting plenty of wine bottles. Drank some and my character became drunk so I went around looting things and smashing windows in a drunken fury. One room was actually full of zombies who didn't appreciate such drunken antics at 9am but I just shut the door and legged it.
It got to about 11am and I was apparently tired again so I ran back to the shelter to try and sleep. On the way I ran into two dogs who were fighting each other. I shot one of them and the other one seemed to follow me but not attack, so I led it back into my shelter and left some meat on the floor in the corner for it. I shall name him later, provided he doesn't attack me. Currently I'm quite badly injured, my torso is on a single red line and my head is yellow, so I don't think it would be smart to go questing for stuff for a while. Got enough food to last a day or so so I think my Day 3 will involve messing around with this dog and crafting things for the fun of it. Also found a bunch of books so maybe I can read those?
Does anybody know if dogs can starve in this game? I quite like this little guy, and I wish the game would stop warning me that monsters are nearby whenever I try to do anything. HE'S NOT A MONSTER, HE'S MY FRIEND. Told my guy to go to sleep at a very early 6pm because I've got no health to risk doing anything otherwise.
Still not managed to get a makeshift bed yet but am going to try dropping clothes on the floor as a way to improve sleeping.
DAY THREE
Day three was very productive. I took the advice of M1NKS and started taking clothes and cutting them up for rags. Eventually ran out of nearby proper clothes and after depositing all the rags in the locker realised I was a few short. Went back and cut up zombie panties for the remaining rags, however I wasn't really happy about this so I dropped those rags on the floor outside an apartment building and ventured inside. After killing a zombie or three I found some t-shirts to cut up and made the final rags for my blanket! Blanket was made and I moved a bunch of 2x4s down into the basement of the shelter to try and build a bed down there. The bed was constructed with use of a PDA's flashlight app and my character was finally ready to go to sleep on something that isn't a floor. However there was one thing that still needed to be dealt with before sleeping.
The panty rags were set on fire.
I'm now at 9am on day 4 after having an actually decent nights sleep! Good decision to ask you guys here for help, I've been wanting to enjoy this game for ages but just not able to get started :)
Snip
I suck at images
So does the stable or unstable version have animal infighting?

Sadly dogs don't last very long in this game if you befriend them, zombies, snakes, other dogs, a stiff wind will all kill them very easily
You should do what I did and tame a humvee, not even landmines or ramming into a house at 40mph will do much to a humvee.
Plus they eat gasoline, never go off and attack creatures without you, and mine has probably killed more zombies than I have at this point.
good boy humvee, good boy
My character is stuck moving north, any ideas?
So today I discovered that shooting a fusion cannon into an empty garage makes the whole fucking building explode for no reason what-so-ever. Now the whole town is on fire and all the food is burning up and the only gunstore in miles has turned into a blazing inferno of death and exploding ammunition. On a unrealated note: Fusion cannons are totally awesome.
