Ok so I got into a flatbed truck which happened to spawn slightly on top of another car. As soon as I started moving I instantly accelerated to 8008 mph and crashed, getting completely obliterated.
Well then
Seriously the best game I've ever played. I now have something to do on a 12-hour roadtrip to Minnesota this weekend. I love the OP for showing me this.
Glad to hear it, single player games are great like that.

Similar thing happened to me. Found a nice car, started driving, had around 8% gas which was enough for me to get to the gas station. It was stuck inside of another car. Went flying forward, luckily it was a straightaway and I didn't go that speed, so I slowed down in time. Bright side, I got my gas and returned to base.
Public Works make wonderful bases. They're easy to barricade, you can dig spike ditches around them for double protection, and they have everything you need for vehicular repair and maintenance. Once you build a makeshift bed, you're set. I'm on day 7 with my guy who's found a number of guns in outer houses, and lives close enough to a gas station to refuel before every mission. I've got gallons of gas back at my base, too. It makes the game a hell of a lot more fun once you get a vehicle, because you actually get to reach areas quickly.
My base is nigh impenetrable, I just need to set up wire gates at the entrance and I'll have it locked up and safe. I've been working on digging spike pits around the entirety of the fence, but that takes a while. The only difficult now is finding food, but with the amount of firepower I've got stored up, I should be able to clear out the nearby small town in search of food. Then I'll just survive off of rabbits and deer by using my crossbow for hunting - essentially unlimited ammo.
Game's too much fun. Never thought I'd enjoy a roguelike this much, since I'm a bit of a graphical nut. Crazy how excellent the mechanics are. Hoping to see additional features in the next version.
I'm on day 17 now. Found myself a schoolbus. Had to fight legions of angry green children in order to make it mine. After proceeding burning down the elementary school to the ground, I evacuated this beautiful vehicle back to my base. Now I'm planning to rebuild it into a superalloy armoured mobile home, already got a few superalloy plates right here. Shit's gonna be good.
What character builds do you guys use? I usually just get int to 14 then pick traits like fast reader and fast learner.
Usualy 7/8/13/10 and with parkour expert for early game zombie kiting, robust genetics for late game and the light step combined with inconspicious. Sometimes I just fiddle around with the traits, but it stays the same most of the time.
Nevermind.
I've been wandering around for an hour and haven't seen any zombies yet, though I have been out of town. Came across a spider at one point, made short work of him with my baseball bat but he tore my hoodie. Is there any reason NPC's are turned off by default? Nevermind about the zombies, wandered into a town at night and my flashlight died, heard crashes and zombies started running at me. I could see where I was going and ended up getting devoured in the back of a flatbed I accidentally trapped myself in.
They're big meanies that's why.

Personally, I put 10 into Dex, 9 into Strength, and 9 into Intelligence.
After that, I go to traits and pick Heavy Sleeper, Glass Jaw, Lightweight, Trigger Happy, Wool Allergy, Truth Teller, and Ugly. Then, for good, I pick Fleet Footed, Quick, either Packmule or Tough, Animal Empathy, and Terrifying.
It makes it a hell of a lot less likely for you to get ganked by a wolf pack or a cougar. My characters always got killed until I started using Animal Empathy and Terrifying. The rest don't matter much.
Robust Genetics is a great one if you plan on going Lab-spelunking. Packmule if you want to move around a lot, Tough if you're planning to bunk up in one spot and clear out a town.
Also, to the other guy, NPCs are turned off because they're ridiculously buggy. Static NPCs only appear once at your spawn, glitch into the basement sometimes, and tend to have a lot of issues. They're pretty much "in beta" but they're being worked on. Can't wait for factions and NPCs to become commonplace, to give Ugly and Truth Teller an actual downside.

I was walking through the forest one day with my slingshot, shooting rabbits and stuff, when some asshole NPC walks up and demands that I drop my weapon. They had a rifle so I did it, then they told me to raise my arms and then they started taking shit from me. After they took a few water bottles and some painkillers from me I just went "ok fuck this guy" and whipped out my knife spear. I managed to stab him in the eyes repeatedly, blinding and eventually killing him, but not before he pumped a few bullets into me.
Fuck NPCs
Apparently the next version will have zombies come back to life if you don't butcher them. The first thing I thought of was killing a bunch of various types of zombies, bringing them to a military bunker, putting different ones in the different reinforced glass rooms, then waiting for them to come back to life. Zombie Zoo.

Where'd you hear this? They already do that if a necromancer zombie shows up, would be kind of redundant to have them reanimate anyway
So is version 0.5 on the dark days site the most up to date version of the game or should I be looking somewhere else.
This is why NPCs are/were disabled.
Dunno if this has been fixed and all that.
Last time i used npcs it was broken as fuck, i was playing for over a hour or so then i got mugged by a chick called britney spears (i shit you not), she shot me dead. I respawned as a new character and she would come back and shoot me 1 turn after i respawn over and over again. Deleting the world did nothing wherever i would go she would find me and shoot me with her goddamn double barrel shotgun
Fursuits.
I would wish Whales still worked on this, it would proably be much better.
But i can deal with it being coded by a 17 year old furry.
Anyways, i have a problem: removing parts from cars dosent give me any part at all. Help.

That's the most fun bug. Having an endless battle.

I doubt that. The most credit you could give to Whales is creating Cataclysm and the minor updates he gave it. Now DarklingWolf and his team are great, due to the fact of how they code massive updates with a couple bugs here and there.
To your question, sounds like a bug; report it.

Some random dude on the roguelike general in /vg/ said it, so it's probably not true
I had a memorable encounter with an NPC back in Whale's old build.
Dude was a guy who came up screaming at me to drop my weapon. I did, and he walked away, but the weapon I put down a crossbow, so I creep back up and grab it. Of course the NPC notices, whirls around and starts running at me. I hightail it back to the evac center I'd been camping at.
Turns out the NPC was a fucking martial arts master. He caught up with me as soon as I reached the door.
First jab, jams his fingers into my character's eyes and blinds them. Second jab, crushes my character's ribcage and kills them.
Yeah they're kind of mean.

I remember reading that too, I thought it was in a list of changes on the main DDA page but now I can't find it again for the life of me.
On 0.5 I keep getting a crash, "This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information."
Hey guys, I absolutely fell in love with this game so I thought I'd share some screenshots.

So, one question. What the fuck is with the spiders? I clear out a town, find a building or two to modify and make a few cars and suddenly there are slugs, mosquitos, spiders and all sorts of animals. Fucking spiders man. And the wasps. Jesus, I'd rather have the zombies.
Woah, How do you make your screen way bigger?
It's under the ingame options, something to do with the viewport. It's originally pretty small but you can push the number up to make the game bigger.
So I started a new character, Was walking around a town when I see some dead gangsters, I took all their marijuana and cocaine. I kept on going when suddenly I was being chased by a few zombies, I smoke all the marijuana to run faster, Then I stumbled upon a dead military person that had a grenade launcher and 4 incendiary rounds.
What happend next was I ran around blowing the fuck out of everything, once I was out of ammo I threw it at a squirrel that was like 10 meters away, killing it. I then tried to run away, ended up getting killed by a zombie cop.
All under 40 MB of a game. I have had a better time than a 10 GB game.
So I kill like 7 zombies, get a trench coat, two military rucksacks, but still no weapon. As I am chasing a rabbit into the woods, I get attacked by a cougar.
Eventually I lose the cougar and I fall into a false sense of security. I make a fire to cook some of the shit I found. Little did I know that the cougar followed me to the building I went to, where I ran inside and locked the cougar out. Unfortunately the fire spread to the building.
It was at this time I found that the building was actually a GAS STATION.
GAME OVER! Press spacebar to quit.
I can confirm zombies reanimating on their own in the newest build of Cataclysm.

It's a bug. Even with static spawning on, swamp creatures still spawn as if on dynamic, so loud noises will spawn a wave of them. If you're going fast in a car, a literal FUCKTON of them will spawn

That makes so much more sense now, thanks
