• Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - FUCK NO SPORTING GOODS STORES
Man, I just can't figure out a way to get into a store without getting swarmed
If there aren't a lot of monsters around and you feel you gotta kill them, do so as quietly as possible. Obvious, I know. If you mean a store where an alarm is triggered, only way to get in without drawing additional attention is a picklock kit. I have no idea if an improvised one will work the same, I've oddly always found a standard one at some point. Sometimes a store has a back entrance as well. If the front is swarmed though, going in the back will only buy you a short time before you are seen(except at night) and they come crashing through the windows, attracting more to the noise.
Just go at night and you will be fine unless you go smashing windows and dancing with a flashlight or something. Fancy trick - if you stop moving in the dark, zombies within 5 tiles or maybe even close won't be able to sense you and will start walking around. This way you can buy yourself time even when surrounded by hoardes.
I wish infrared vision still worked through walls [editline]23rd April 2014[/editline] Also why could you see zombies with them? Aren't they room temperature corpses?
[sp]I paid dearly for the fact that I didn't know zombies could get back up at night even after you've killed them[/sp] Incredibly minor spoiler when it comes to zombie corpses.
Aaaah I swear mini-go is my favourite enemy. Sometimes when I find one in a lab I just sit by it's cage and listen to what it parrots. The one liners are so well written they are always stories in itself. Truly amazing. Not so amazing when they break out and mangle my corpse though. [editline]24th April 2014[/editline] My dream is to make a basement of 3 tiles or so and put a zombie corpse there. Then grind dodge, melee and shooting.
Aaaah I swear mini-go is my favourite enemy. Sometimes when I find one in a lab I just sit by it's cage and listen to what it parrots.
Got any good examples of what it says? I've never actually encountered those.
Got any good examples of what it says? I've never actually encountered those.
It has just below 200 lines of speech. :v: With classics such as: [sp]Do you smoke?[/sp] [sp]Can I see your phone?[/sp] [sp]I love the smell of napalm in the morning.[/sp] [sp]Are you busy tonight?[/sp]
Got any good examples of what it says? I've never actually encountered those.
[sp]Mommy, HELP![/sp] [sp]I swear it's trying to understand us.[/sp] [sp]Do you mean it's not just parroting us?[/sp] [sp]I need a new labcoat[/sp] [sp]It can't hurt us.[/sp] [sp]The glass alone won't hold it for long.[/sp] [sp]Just being an alien creature doesn't make it intelligent.[/sp] [sp]EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY![/sp] [sp]Oh god please don't kill me![/sp] Just a few of them.
Pointless Consumable Related Rant: How come there isn't a recipe for a Tuna Sandwich or Tuna Salad, yet you actually can find all the components of both? Or for that matter a cheese sandwich(yes, I am well aware its implied to be some kind of mystery processed generi-cheese)? I'm well aware that they could be added via mods and that there already are a shit ton of consumables as is. Hence why its a pointless rant.
Because they're still adding recipes. They're missing plenty of common food items that require food prep, it's just that nobody's made a significant enough food mod that includes it.
With the recent mutation additions this is very relevant
My guy seems to be going crazy. I've been playing while nearly falling asleep myself and noticed a few odd messages in the log thing but never paid enough attention to them. I slept in the back of my car just then and got some messages about dreaming about pollinating plants and serving the Queen. The second one was a nightmare and woke me up. Am I going to die?
That depends. Have you been drinking mutagen/serums? If so, that's likely the cause. It means you're on the insect - or bee, if it's gotten that specific - mutation track.
Aww, no *BANG* sound when breaking the sound barrier... Then again, I'm deaf from smashing the gas pedal through the floor and the engine nearly exploding so I wouldn't know... [editline]25th April 2014[/editline] Oh. Hi. :/
is there any specific way of changing the window size for cataclysm? I've tried adjusting it to full screen in the options but it hasn't worked. Also on an unrelated note is the sight range of zombies comparable to that of humans at night or is it better? I've usually just obliged by the that if I can see them (at night) then they can see me.
In the options menu there are width and height settings; change those and restart the game for it to take effect.
Man, just had my best run so far as an albino punk rocker, found a shotgun near where I spawned in a gunshop and found a ton of shells. I ran through the woods for a long time, slept in a biohazard waste facility (where I mutated Sleepy and some positive perk) and then ran to town to acquire a backpack before I was slaughtered. I was in a ton of pain from smashing down doors :v:
So I guess the acid rain got so intense at one point that it killed a huge amount of nearby animals (and zombies). The outside of my evac bunker is littered with delicious, mildly acid burned animal corpses. Shame I haven't got any salt to make jerky. All this meats gonna go bad even after I cook it. [editline]25th April 2014[/editline] Anybody know how to make Tallow? I'd assume it's a high level survival recipe.
Anybody know how to make Tallow? I'd assume it's a high level survival recipe.
[sp]Tallow is a difficulty 2 recipe that uses cooking, it needs a tool with cutting quality of at least 1, a hot plate[7 charges] or a Charcoal Smoker or Intergrated Toolset[1 charge] or a nearby fire, A frying pan, pot or stone pot, 2 chunks of fat and 1 water, be it clean or not. [/sp] Spoilered for those who'd rather find it on their own.
So I guess the acid rain got so intense at one point that it killed a huge amount of nearby animals (and zombies). The outside of my evac bunker is littered with delicious, mildly acid burned animal corpses.
Yeah that's an issue with corpse decay not being in yet. The meat will decay, but corpses still aren't cleaned up. It used to be fine until 0.A, because acid rain would cause item degradation. This would destroy corpses in your reality bubble that were outside, so you could just dump stuff you didn't want outside and wait for it to rain. Due to issues with funnels - and I think just people whining because acid rain was destroying things, like really the Cata forums has a lot of just complaining or suggestions to only ever use exploding ammo to solve the tiniest problems - they removed item degradation from acid rain. Which means currently it's safe to just leave shit laying out in the weather. It also means good luck not living in a giant corpse pile after a few weeks.
If you go out and butcher all the bodies, the meat will eventually rot away on its own, iirc. However shit like bones, fur pelts and chitin won't, which can be a plus or minus depending on how much you like tailoring and bone broth.
Actual meat rots away yes, nothing else - except fat - will. Fur pelts can be used directly or cut into leather patches, bones can be used for broth, arrows and in some other recipes. Chitin is used for armor and plant fertilizer, plus some serums.
Has the recipe for a Filter mask been changed to something that now has to be learned out of a book? According to the wiki I've got the relevant components and skill but I can't find the prompt on the crafting menu.

Cool, thanks for the info.

Brat bologna and Mannwurst. Nice...
How the hell do you get this thing running? I've downloaded two graphical builds that are apparently both the most recent ones and running the .exe just opens a window that's not responding.
Why is it that some (normal) zombies die in two to three hits from a sledgehammer but I just hit one zombie like 25 times with the same sledgehammer and it still killed me :|
