Anybody know which book has the recipe for makeshift lockpicks? I've checked the item browser and its got no mention of them, but I remember distinctly being able to build them with some scrap metal and a hammer.
According to its entry in the online recipe guide, it is apparently a low level fabrication recipe.
I always end up burning through mountains of food while reading, how do you guys keep a large surplus of food?
Meat Jerky, Fruit Leather, purified Toilet Water and canned foods usually make up what I have to eat. Not the healthiest or most satisfying, but usually easy to get and stockpile. Worst case I end up eating a meal of boxed cookies, malt balls and peppermint patties. Its easier to keep food handy when playing a omnivore/normal person with no qualms about what they eat/allergies/etc.

Ah, I see my error now. I've just been screwing up the name in the crafting search. Thanks.

Italian Seasoning can give you months of jerky, given you have the meat for it.
Edit:
What kind of armor do you guys go for? I always like using Survivor set because it's useful for raiding military bases incase a turret somehow gets a lucky shot and hits you. My last survivor mask saved me from a headshot, so I might just be biased.

I hunt. In the current stable I have to spend about an hour every morning hunting, cooking and purifying water for the day when it's Summer. Otherwise I shoot for something big like a wolf that gives like 6+ meat and use that for a couple days. I have plenty of water available, I just purify daily in Summer because I'm already there with the meat.

I grab a car and a fishing pole and go to a river for a week along with a charcoal smoker. Then I catch fish for 6 hours, smoke the fish, repeat. There's infinite water at a river aslong as you have a lighter and a pot and you can just eat the smokes fish that you're making. After a week of that, I have like 250 filets of smoked fish. Also usually about 50 smoked meat because of all the wildlife that usually try to ruin my fishing trip.
Water is extremely easy, either find a water pump or just bring 2 steel jerry cans with you when you go to a river and fill those up. That water will last you for weeks. Just make a wooden barrel and place it in your shelter, then fill it up with the clean water. It works surprisingly well.
So what the fuck is up with blobs? I went to sleep in my fortified and barricaded radio station which I totally cleared out before going to sleep. During this rest I hear ALOT of noise from outside, and end up waking up early. Walking through to the kitchen to sharpen some skills, I hear noise coming from INSIDE. So I head on down to the office rooms where I hear the noise and turns out there are small blobs in there. Merc both of em, no issue. Same with the office next to it.
Since I'm fully rested, I just sit in my room (radio room, repurposed with furniture) and wait for some 4 hours. Couldnt even get to an hour, cause I started hearing noises from the offices again. Went back in, there were more. I killed em all and picked up their blob globs this time and tried to wait till morning. Another thirty or so minutes, more noise. Went back to the offices, even more than before. And there were some in the bathroom too. So I turn on my flashlight and decide to see what all the noise is about outside. Opened the door, one blob in the fenced area, a sea of em past the fence. Like as far as my game could render.
Currently waiting till sunrise, clutching an assault rifle for dear life.
My question is where the fuck are they coming from in such numbers. I dont see a slimepit around for miles, and this is going to be a problem if I have to move all my shit/abandon my fort.

Solution: Burn it all down. Leave every tile as a 4
Or you could mininuke it.

Take a screenshot of the blob hoard for us before anything else, then load everything you have into a car and drive the hell away. It's the blob's town now, not yours. No use fighting that.
Also if [sp]blobs can spawn out of portals maybe that's what happened? Like you somehow had a portal within your reality bubble and it spawned blobs which spawned little blobs until they started to spill over towards your safehouse?[/sp]
I did have a portal in the electronic store down the block. Already dead. Fuckers leaked/portaled through into my room and squishlynched me to death.
First time anything like that ever happened to me in Cataclysm. Gotta love this game for raising the bar in hopeless circumstances.

You situation makes mine where I found a portal in a Radio Station and now have wandering [sp]Flaming Eyeballs and Grecks(I think thats what they are called[/sp] seem minor. Does explain why the welcoming committee for when I got where I am was various Blobs though.
Do minifridges in cars actually work now? Do fridges in general work now?

Oh hey! I had literally this exact same problem. Here's a screenshot showing my final (failed) dash to my vehicle to try and book it:

This has been a version or two ago though, but yeah. Blobs multiply. They split into small blobs which grow into large blobs which split into small blobs. If there's nowhere for them to split to, they spawn their small forms through walls. So all it takes is 1 small blob to start a swarm, and once that happens you're basically fucked. I couldn't get anything done because they would come through the walls and interrupt me.
[editline]14th May 2014[/editline]
I feel I should mention I was wearing a full set of powered power armor while I was trying to cut through them, and I still only barely made it out of the house.
How exactly do they swarm like that? Does one blob becoming aware of the player cause the rest to swarm to their location or is it simply a nearby blob multiplying rapidly within the presence of the player.
What happened to me was I drove too close to a slime pit and tracked a few back with me. I thought I was fine, so I went to sleep and woke up when one of them attacked me. Keep in mind I keep everything closed up, so they had already multiplied enough to surround the house and then force spawn others in through the walls. I actually had a shot had I not tried to get sleep or craft shit to get through it; there was barely enough to call a swarm when I first looked outside.
But yeah, they just multiply. So if you have one follow you back, it multiples on the way and then multiplies while you sleep. Because they're incapable of smashing, they can't break your windows to alert you they're there.
It's pretty neat how if left unintended blobs can turn into what is essentially a giant blob. I'm not sure if the spawning through walls is an intentional by-product of their behavior but it is fairly fitting, like they're seeping in through cracks in the walls or something.
haha i used some C4 to blow up a Semi-truck that was in my way, but as I was running away I kept hearing ticking and thought it was just because I had the augmented ears, but it turns out I left an active C4 in my pocket.
It didn't kill me :v:
For water I just have two jugs outside my house with funnels and it's served me perfectly so far.

Won't that just get fucked up by any kind of acid drizzle?
Acid's tricky to get, to be honest. I have a few huge containers outside my house with funnels on them, and I guess because there's so much water there's no chance for it to convert the entire thing to acid water.
O boy i love the little things, (A) a firebrand / broadsword

Nah.
Also, I was finally able to make an anvil when I realized steel frames gave you a fuckton of metal.
I just collected a fuckton of logs too, and I can make charcoal, which I use for the charcoal forge, which I use to make empty canisters, which I use to make batteries.
Things are finally falling into place. I just made a couple of wooden barrels for various chemicals and a 55 gallon drum for clean water. I also made a couple of steel jerrycans.
I can smoke a ton of meat, I pretty much have unlimited water with the rain, the whole area outside my safehouse is wilderness so I can hunt whenever. I have an electric car which I installed with additional solar panels and batteries.
Still have a ton of things to obtain but I just mostly need books and raw mats at this point.
Only downside is that my character has only 8 intelligence so I can't really use the high-end books unless I get CBMs and mutations.
Ok I find a mine and it's just a tunnel with hazy smoke at the end.
what do
Find a gas mask and go through the smoke.
Oh, man. My car just ran over a minefield.
It triggered two mines.
Fortunately, somehow, all the essential parts are still working so I can limp home to repair it.
Funny as hell.
Oh, man. Is there a way to take water or put water in a container without having to pick it up first? I'm trying to pour some water in a barrel.
Wield the container so it doesn't take up volume. If it's too much weight, you might just want to drop stuff.
I have to say, the most fun thing to in this game is to put on hot pants and a bikini top (Preferably as a male but a female works too) and go running through town honking an airhorn.

Ah, I wish there was a way to obtain water directly from a container but I guess this will have to do.

If you're cooking clean water, you can save a ton of real time by just using a water purifier on a whole barrel/jerry can and it will clean it all in one go. If you use the cook recipe it will take forever doing each unit.
Also, I went into the smoke in my mine and literally can't see. I'm pretty sure it's just a deadend with smoke :v:.

It isnt. There is a down ramp obscured by smoke.
