Firestation scenario; Bionic firefighter; Escape to a pawnshop next door, find and take broadsword; Try to make my way out of the city, stumble upon a brute; Yakety Sax while I run around trying to break line of sight with the brute and find a safe way out; In the meantime I attack a skeleton but it badly injure my head before killing it; Fortunately find some first aid kit and a lot of disinfectants too a bit later; Go through a house, find a garage with a pristine car and full tank; Zombies are breaking in, open garage door and make an action sequence escape (complete with squashing zombie while reversing out of the garage); On my way to an LMOE Shelter, find 2 mi-go guarding a bunch of scientist corpses; Kill the mi-go by ramming them (most fun way to kill mobs by far). And that's where I am right now.
Savescum a game and drink it all. Also, how the fuck can I deal with skeletons with a ranged character? I usually use bear traps, but chances are i'm not going to be that lucky. I found a trovel though, can I use that to dig up mines :v:?
Actually that character died to a skeletal dog. I was upset. To the point I deleted the world. Largely by carrying a good blunt melee weapon, but if you have a powerful enough ranged weapon you'll eventually actually hit and probably kill it in one shot. My current character took 4 .45 rounds to hit a skeletal dog, but when she did it absolutely destroyed it. If you think you've got a good shot at disabling them, you can just [e]xamine the tile and it'll ask if you want to attempt to disable them. Disabling a trap without it going off will always give you the trap item. I started with a .45 and a brick of ammo, managed to start right next to a grocery store so I grabbed a shopping cart and loaded up anything I knew would be valuable. Had to play LoS chicken with a hulk and managed to avoid getting murdered. Dashed to the South-West to a field that I thought opened up into the rest of the world, but was actually just in the middle of the town. Went South to a garage, grabbed most of the loot. Considered living out of it, but decided to cut through about 6-7 city map tiles to head into what I could clearly see was a forest. Ended up getting run down by multiple zombies, including two spitters who caused me enough pain I had to stop and fight. Was forced to abandon my cart full of supplies, my steel jerry can I was going to use to collect water, and my fire axe I had to drop to pull my .45 out. Had a huge horde of zombies chasing me through the forest, managed to break away from them. Found a gas station that was just the pumps and a couple vending machines with a full APC parked in the road in front of it only missing the tires. So that's where I'm living now, and I only have 4 rounds left. Murdering things with a 2-by-sword.
Guys I have an alcohol problem. Third one only did about 25 pain on the trip back to the house. What the fuck am I going to do with 8400 servings of single-malt whiskey?
That reminds me of something I've wondered: is there any way to fill large containers without having to break your back carrying it in your inventory? (Because it should be) Also, how does clothing with "hooded" and "pocketed" attributes work? I don't seem to get any warmth bonus from it.

Think to get pocket benefit you must not have anything in your hands.
Think to get pocket benefit you must not have anything in your hands.
Yeah, I thought so too. Says so in the wiki, but I just don't seem to get any warmth at all. I'm guessing NeverGoWest (is that an "Misadventures of Flapjack" reference btw?) got the right idea, probably broken/not implemented yet.
Yeah, I thought so too. Says so in the wiki, but I just don't seem to get any warmth at all. Ah, I see. I guess the Flapjack episode could be inspired from this song? It's basically about how the sailors believed sailing West was a bad omen (even scratched away the "W" on their compass :v:). But I suppose that's a bit off topic, getting back on track: I really like the new starting scenarios, especially the "Experiment" one. So this is a story all about how I picked bad traits and died painfully: I got this brilliant idea of combining the Robust Genetics and Genetically Unstable traits/mutations, thinking: "Yeah! I'll be, like, evolving and adapt to the situation!" Then I noticed The minor Radiation trait, and thought: "Hey, If I combine this with Radiogenic, I'll always heal! And get some extra mutation chance as well." [sp]Then the game happened and the Genetically Unstable trait exacerbated the Minor Radiation to Radiation and I died from radiation sickness and enormous amounts of pain. :I[/sp]
Do you guys ever make characters that realistically portray your IRL self just to see how long you are going to survive? I usually die on day 1.
When it has a hood it also covers your head, pockets mean you can warm your hands in the pockets and also gives a storage bonus IIRC, but they probably broke it and didn't bother fixing it.
It's not broken, it's just not that strong.
Do you guys ever make characters that realistically portray your IRL self just to see how long you are going to survive? I usually die on day 1.
I think I would end up with loads of spare skillpoints in character creation :v: Also; I rarely last more than a couple of days anyway, at least until I get used to the new build.
Do you guys ever make characters that realistically portray your IRL self just to see how long you are going to survive? I usually die on day 1.
Ditto. Doesn't last long from his lack of strength.
Fuck starting in winter is rough. I spend every turn trying to get in-doors before my face freezes off, despite having a scarf and helmet.
Yeah, Spring is pain in the ass enough. I run 30 day seasons, I can't imagine how God awful it'd be to start in Winter.
TBH i think the only viable option for winter is to start with mechanic skills, hope you find tools or a working car and just fix it up, fill it up and use it to get around. Maybe high tailoring, but it probably won't help you survive. Also, met up with a survivor with a p90, and I accidentally wasted all his ammo on normal zombies. When a Mi-go and a kreck show up, he's swinging at them :v:
Jesus Christ, the LMOE shelter is OP. So much good stuff in there. To top it off I have my near-pristine car and a house nearby had a ton of goodies.
Oh, okay, so [sp]tankbots[/sp] is a thing now? Roaming the countryside with fucking [sp]long range missile batteries[/sp]? That's alright, living's for nerds anyway!
Oh, okay, so [sp]tankbots[/sp] is a thing now? Roaming the countryside with fucking [sp]long range missile batteries[/sp]? That's alright, living's for nerds anyway!
That's caractlysm for you

Build a bed, add a RV Kitchen unit, minifridge and extra batterys and an extra gas tank, add a water tank and some extra trunk space. You can practically live in the vehicle and store your food so it doesn' go bad. Cook your food with the unit and so on, your deaths become a lot less common. It's why I was able to get my guy to survive for 3 seasons consisting of about 50 days each.

If you try and close the distance, they bust out the[sp]assault rifle,[/sp]and if you insist on getting even closer, it has a[sp]flamethrower[/sp]in waiting. I know it's basically just designed to be a tank with an AI slapped on it, but I can't stop myself from imagining it's the Peace Walker if they were mass-produced.
If you try and close the distance
Yeah, I was pretty much just a smear on the road the moment I got the monster in viewing distance. Thing's got one hell of a range, won't be trying to do any distance-closing towards that, unless I got a tank or something. It seems most of my deaths is caused by running away from something dangerous into something 10X times more dangerous after the update.
I would love if they put in a sneaking or running mode in. Something like Sil where it just makes it harder for enemies to detect you and you make less noise. It just feels weird that everything is the same speed, especially when recoil can be managed by just taking 1 step away rather than waiting. I think sneaking takes up more move turns or whatever it is in Sil. I can't remember.

Right now I have a electrical wooden cart-cycle with LMG turrets. If any of you dislike the tank-bot you can edit its entry to nerf/remove-it, its called 'mon_tankbot' inside Data\Json\Monsters.json

There's always a bigger fish, and it's actually an achievement to be able to destroy one.

How is xp gain calculated for combat skills? Do they only increase on kill or as you use weapons?
