Yeah, but for me atleast, Dwarf Fortress is hard as fuck to understand, I like it when its simpler. I really do need to start learning how to play it though.
This game really needs some of the overly-specific stuff that Dwarf Fortress has. I mean, In DF you can impale a lion with the corpse of another lion. Let me pin a zombie to a wall with a spear. Let me pour gasoline on a cougar and light it on fire. Let me dismember limbs to have a zombie torso army that just sits in the middle of town. Let me kill a zombie by shoving a zombie kid down it's throat. I want to be a sick bastard, game. Let me. I'm already a winged tentacled slimy mutant with a cannon arm and a scorpion tail, lemme be dumber.
Whales talked about this about a year ago; he said that it was his aim for combat to be a lot different than DF, since in DF you're typically engaged in small, really complex fights where you have to tactically choose how to dispatch the enemies, whereas in cataclysm, the whole horde should be treated as a single enemy to be overcame. Obviously it's new a different dev now so who knows, and I think some more flavour text would hardly hurt.
So I played a character in the stable version until I lost the save somehow. With level 10 archery I was literally unstoppable ( at least on the classic zombies mode ) I just went into a church, broke all the benches, make like 500 arrows and then walked through town spamming f. Then I switched to the unstable build with non-classic zombies mode and oh God. This is difficult.
I finally managed to blow up the tutorial house without dying. Considering it seems to stop around the point I fill a water bottle, hell, what good was it anyway. It sure must have been fun waiting in the burning wreck for an hour just so the fire would die down.

Damn this game got so much harder since the original cataclysm
I found a car with some gas, so I drove it around a bit until I see a military bunker, Having no ID card I just drove into it while jumping out. I forgot about the turrets.
Does anyone else fancy sharing their starting character and moves? My archery build I bump up his archery by 2 and survival by 1. I then smash 2 windows in the evac to get 2x 3ft string and 1x heavy stick to make a longbow. I then smash a ton of benches and make about 200 arrows.

They say go for sporting goods or mil surplus but there's no way to them without aggroing everything. Also, doesn't smelly attract things too much?

Also, doesn't smelly attract things too much?
Yeah, I don't go to any stores early on. I just break into the houses on the outskirts of town looking for equipment and the like. I break open a window facing away from town, then clear the glass shards and help myself to the shit inside. If a zombie or two aggros on me, I lure them into the window then beat on them while they are in the window frame. If there's no windows nearby, I'll lure them into a shrub then hit them twice and back off, then lure them into another one and repeat. If I attract more than 3, I'll just run away and either go to another house on the outskirts far from the one I was just at, or just start wandering down a road looking for a roadside building to search. Animals like spiders and wolves don't really attack me unless I get close, so it's not really a problem. Not sure if it attracts zombies, but if it does, I haven't noticed.
I recently looted a few farms and I think they could make some great bases. Will zombies spawn in a farm if I occupy it?
Going through the mod section of the forums for DDA, I find that back in April someone made a new tiles version of vanilla Windows Cataclysm(specifically 1.6 from last August). It may not have the bells and whistles DDA has, but I've been playing it. Currently on Day 2. Found a mansion just across the street from a Mil. Surplus store. While I was fortifying it by digging pits around the windows, I find out that all along there was a family of giant worms just below the mansion. I see the mounds, but am safe due to the street. Then out of nowhere a Necromancer and its newly revived posse decide to try and start some shit. On the bright side I have a silenced Marlin so I take them out and remember to butcher them this time. Been a while since I played Cataclysm, I forgot that even for a roguelike, it can be extremely random with stuff like that.
I found out that with static spawn enabled I can actually clear places of zombies. Right now I got the infection out of the nearest town. Man, the triumph!
So I'm having fun mowing down massive amounts of giant bugs in my car when suddenly... [t]http://i.imgur.com/yEG06iV.png[/t] "The car doesn't have an engine!" Fuck. TIME TO BOOK IT [editline]13th June 2013[/editline] I jumped in the river while getting bit by fucking everything. Then I realized giant frogs live underwater. I then got gangbanged by frogs and drowned.
Is there seriously a way to sneak around? I sure as hell know I wouldn't be running around a zombie filled town IRL.
Is there seriously a way to sneak around? I sure as hell know I wouldn't be running around a zombie filled town IRL.
Currently, no. Hopefully it'll be added soon though
Is there seriously a way to sneak around? I sure as hell know I wouldn't be running around a zombie filled town IRL.
There is. Just go to town at night. [editline]16th June 2013[/editline] Also what's the point of sneaking past zombies that can simply smell you. Didn't you think that they can actually hear you stand on the same spot throught walls of houses?
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/568375735/cataclysm-dark-days-ahead-dedicated-developer?ref=tag The kickstarter for the project has begun.
The proper 0.6 is also out http://en.cataclysmdda.com/ Changelog: https://github.com/TheDarklingWolf/Cataclysm-DDA/blob/master/data/changelog.txt
did they disable the cheating menu? I can't get it to open and I'm too bad to play this legit :<
I get that they ARE Zombies after all, but now the Water Extraction CBM is slightly less useful(if its even in DDA). Yeah, I could just use a human or animal corpse(assuming THOSE don't zombify), but there are just SO many zombie corpses.
This game is now Zombie Butcherer Simulator 2013. *Now with moar secret bunkers to find out in the woods!*
Oh god, not even gas explosions stop cougars. The only difference now is that the cougar ripping me apart is now on fire. [editline]7th July 2013[/editline] WHY ARE THERE SO MANY COUGARS?
Got guns. Need victims.
Finally got around to reinstalling this game (installed the latest github build). holy fuck there's cars everywhere Also a youtuber called Aavak has been doing a lets play of this game that I enjoy watching

Monster in-fighting would make this game 1000X better than it already is, and is one of the things I've been waiting for since Whales ever started developing this.
