......I may have said this before, but my characters could be considered "dull" as even with how drugs affect stats the hardest drug I intentionally use is Codine. And even then for its intended use as a painkiller. I did use pink tablets once, thinking they were supposed to be Peptol/antacids. Then I learned they were acid or something and spent a night hallucinating squirrels, rabbits and bees were in my fortified garage.
Some of the announcements in this game can be super eerie.
Especially "From the northeast you hear a baby crying!" because it's never a baby... :v:
I'm going to experiment with melee characters since my ranged never end up well
I'm working on a the thing human form masquerading as a npc. Hope to get its dialogue to be more correct rather them bunch of unrelated noises and speech on the crabs.

3 adrenaline shots + 1 meth and you can read all your books in less them an hour.

Your avatar is very appropriate.
I never use drugs in the game because I fear becoming addicted to them and also don't want to 'waste' the effects. I'll have to try them more, I thought they just gave speed boosts!
Lol I have the addictive personality trait and just smoked three pipes full of crack.
Come at me addiction.

I like to imagine a survivor sitting cross legged in his garage while all this crazy shit happens around him like "Yeah, that definitely wasn't an antacid I took."

Feels good man.
How do you get Plasma Engines though?
What do I have to pick fights with to train dodging beyond lvl 13?
I don't have to start charging turrets, do I? :v:

I think you can only find them in [sp]Prize rooms in Labs[/sp]

How do you go about filling up your water tank with clean water? Fastest way I've found is to stand next to a well on a farm and just keep filling up my canteen with boiled/clean water and then transfer it to a tank, but even a full 3L canteen only fills it like ~5% at a time. I feel like there must be a much simpler way I'm missing.
Personally, I use two steel jerrycans ~ 15L, fill one with dirty water, the other is the destination for the now clean water, them just dump it inside the water tanks. You can also make steel drums and wooden barrels that got really big capacity.

But how do you fill those (drums and barrels) without dying of weight encumberment?
Is there some way of filling containers not in your inventory/hands I'm not aware of?
I did it with a water purifier, a steel Jerry can and a river.
You don't need a second container for the clean water if you have a purifier and 100 battery charges are good for exactly the 100 units of water a Jerry can holds.
If you get lucky and find an aluminum keg, they store 200 units of water - double what a water purifier can deal with, so get a battery doubling mod and install it on it - and that's 50% of a single water tank. They have something ridiculous like a 300 volume so you can generally only carry them by hand, but the weight of the keg itself is practically nothing.
I just back my battle wagon up to a water source like a river, you only need one can this way as it'll draw the water directly from the river and not require a second container, you can always use two or more containers to speed up filling the water tanks though.
First thing I do when building a vehicle is put a kitchen unit in the back specifically for this purpose, two full water tanks last a LONG time and they don't take long to fill this way.

I put all those utility/tool parts on the sides of my vehicle, but after I switched to heavy duty frames and heavy boards, I realized they actually blocked me from seeing and using them so I installed an opaque door on the side.
I made a character based on a pessimist interpretation of me.
Never survived more than half a day.
Also one time playing that character I spawned in a house surrounded by zombies, the moment I took a step I was instagibbed by an explosion. What the fuck?
I really wish I could get a character to survive long enough to build a vehicle
So I found a mall when out exploring one day, and I was like "Hell yeah, I can use my APC to camp outside of it for the bitchin' loot, and the turret will protect me if I find anything too powerful." So I got everything set up, I spent 4 days deconstructing cars along the road leading down to it, got a second welding rig crafting and attached for repairing my armor if needbe, stocked it with clean water and non-perishable food, plus extra arrows and two high powered rifles and 5 Molotovs just in case. Drove down there, honked the horn twice, got out and started killing zombies. Was all pumped when cutting through the first few tiles. Clearing all the shops carefully to avoid running out of arrows with too many enemies around, smashing and looting what I could. Taking only the prized stuff on the first pass, dumping it in the loading bay near where I parked so I could just haul it straight out.
[sp]About half way through the mall I realized how incredibly fucking dull it is. There's a shit load of zombies, yeah. There's also a shit load of really low level generic loot, like basic clothes and some okay amounts of food. There were a few exciting stores, - found a bike shop, fuck yeah free bike - but except for some really minor electronic loot and a few guns with some ammo it's been one of the most tedious adventures I've ever had in this game. I found a few books I didn't have already which was nice, an extra army jacket and two winter army jackets, a decent amount of food, etc.. Mostly trivial shit I could find more of and better just from raiding normal stores. And I was really hoping to find some specials or something, but the only enemies there are like 90% regular zombies, 5% kid zombies, 4% fat zombies, and 1% cop zombies. I've been scrounging there for 3 days, and it... really honestly hasn't been worth it for that much time except I found a book which gave me the reflex recurve recipe. It's cool they put that much effort into it, but it's mostly not worth going to so far.[/sp]
I put it in spoilers in case you want to experience a trip to the mall for yourself without your experience affected by mine.
Hoo my... I've come across some really fun new toys.
Some of them are so "fun" it almost feels like cheating...
[sp]The Control Laptop, that let me hack robots and turrets.[/sp] Haven't tried it on the big stuff yet, but it got a nice range. Also, anyone know if the effect is permanent?
And the [sp]Close Quarters CBM, more spesifically, the Bio Justu style: They almost got my head, but holy shit:[/sp] http://i.imgur.com/hk8EVfs.png [sp]That was 103 zombies, and 1 zdog[/sp]
After a lot of time of playing I still haven't explored vehicles. I tried one like twice and crashed. Anyone have any guides for like everything for them? May just do a world with shitty weak zombies to test out everything relating to them.
Vehicles are a lot simpler than they seem. The biggest issue is finding one that's even drivable; the vast majority of vehicles you find will have one or more problems that keep them from running: Tires destroyed, engine destroyed, controls destroyed, or no fuel. In the case of fuel, it's a simple case of finding a container and either a rubber hose to siphon other vehicles or a gas station - or just wait if it's an electric car and its panels aren't destroyed. The others require you to find replacement parts and have either a powered welder and welding goggles, or enough duct tape. Remember to use the replace command over just removing and re-adding, as I believe replacing doesn't require the "right" level of mechanics that installing an item would.
Now! You have a vehicle that functions, has fuel, and that has enough room around it you aren't going to slam into shit trying to work it out and back to your hideout. Get in that bitch and grab them controls (^ default, shift+6) and let's go over some basics. First, controlling the vehicle's systems. Press your vehicle control key and it should bring up a menu - that's assuming you are already "driving", if you are not then you will begin if in a seat or bed in the same tile as the controls, or will get a prompt asking you which direction to control a vehicle in. Most vehicles only have a few systems, like the horn and headlights. From this menu you can stop driving, - which turns off the engine and releases the controls - let go of the controls, - which DOESN'T turn off the engine - or turn on or off any number of systems - including cruise control, headlights, overhead lights for the big one whose name escapes me, the stereo, turrets, as well as honking the horn and changing turrets to and from burst mode. This is a big paragraph for a single feature, but it's important.
Now, for the actual driving. Cruise control is on by default, and I have no idea how it works in real life but in Cataclysm you change the cruise level in increments of 10 - counting 0, so the first tick up will be 9 and then it goes up by 10. To do this, press your 'move North' key (Numpad 8 default). You can also put the vehicle into reverse or lower the cruise level by pressing your 'move South' key. This does not require time units at all, so you are able to adjust your targeted cruising or reverse speed as needed before you pass time to speed up. You can drive in your aimed direction only by just waiting while the vehicle has a targeted cruise speed.
Turning is where things get complicated. It uses the 'move East' and 'move West' keys. Assuming you're facing directly North at the start, turning once will cause your vehicle to veer slightly in that direction. Turning again in that same direction will make it move diagonally. Turning again is more like moving to the side with a veer, and turning once more will make you go straight in the direction. So you'd go from North to North veering East, to North-East, to East veering North, to East, for example. Turning takes time to do, and you cannot turn at all while stationary. You can turn in reverse, but it's reversed like you'd expect. I highly suggest using the 'place marker where vehicle is going while driving' option, but also remember that it places the marker in front of YOU, not the center of your vehicle. In my case, it messes with me a bit when driving 4-wide cars because it's just barely not in the center.
I can expand on this and maybe provide pictures a bit later if you'd like, if I didn't explain anything well enough feel free to ask for a better explanation.

I just put everything inside, I don't even have to leave my vehicle unless I need to restock the fridge with food. My current vehicle is built out of an APC, but I've rearranged it so it's more or less the same layout as an RV and converted it to use gasoline as it's easier to find in quantity. Still need to put a new bumper on it though, smashed my last one off driving through a city-sized horde.

Seriously, this thread wouldn't be the same without you.

I think that's where most people get confused. a lot of people I think get a car and just keep tapping their move keys and they don't really understand how fast they're going. They just see the car moving one or two (and eventually like 10) tiles every turn and think nothing of it. And then they go to turn and don't realize until they attempt to turn that they're going 90 miles an hour and they end up crashing in to a house and ejecting themselves. I know that was my problem the first few times I drove with a car. Whenever I introduce the game my ascii and mud loving friends that always becomes their first time vehicle problem too
unfortunately for me I haven't played cataclysm since vehicles were first introduced. back then they were a really basic fixed design: there was a coupe and 4x4 pickup truck iirc and not any kind of DIY zombie slaughtering machines with chainsaw doors and spiked grills
Does anyone know what the Leukocyte breeder System CBM actually does?

I'm guessing it's like bionic cough syrup and/or antibiotica.
