How often do you guys create a new world? I usually do one everytime I die out of habit, but I did have one world which I kept for several characters until it got to the stage where I kept looting my own body and getting right back to where I was.
Oh, I forgot to reply to this. Every 1-2 characters now. I love bones files like in NetHack, but it doesn't work so well in Cataclysm. You just end up coming across your corpse and backtracking to your completely filled stash. You lose the built experience you had from gathering your hoard, and you miss out on the exploration.

Oh also I fucked up the driving part of that vehicle thing. There's 2 more turns in between each cardinal direction. So using the North to East example, it goes: North, North veering North-East, North-East veering North, North-East, North-East veering East, East veering North-East, East. This is why I also advised using the driving marker, because vehicle tiles for smaller vehicles don't change much and you might be veering more than you intend to.
I just found a [sp]abandoned boarded up and unmarked on the map house out in the woods off a highway.[/sp] How common is this? Never seen it before, but it was pleasant.

I literally found the same thing a couple of hours ago, did you see any [sp]bandit npcs[/sp]?

Nah, I had both [sp]static and dynamic NPCs enabled[/sp], but didn't see any.

Found it the files under [sp]data>json>mapgen>bandit_cabin.json[/sp].

I only have [sp]Static npc spawn on[/sp], so I never suspected [sp]meeting hostile, armed npcs in there. Luckilly the first one only had melee weapons. I guess bandits don't count as "real" npcs even though they had individual names and stuff?[/sp]

Did you like[sp]what you found in the basement?[/sp]
Did you like[sp]what you found in the basement?[/sp]
Didn't see a [sp]basement[/sp]. I'll have to look on my way back because the road was a dead end.

You didn't see a [sp]basement[/sp] because [sp]it's hidden.[/sp]
There's a[sp]room somewhere in the house that has no door. You cannot access it from within the house itself. Instead, search around the outside and find the window that leads to the room. Pry or smash the boards off the window and there you go.[/sp]

Yeah, I found it after I returned.
The cabins are [SP] bandit cabins which are the targets of quests that can be given by government representatives that can be found at the refugee centers I mentioned a while ago. I really enjoy fighting them because they're the only challenging enemies I've found apart from tank bots and turrets around corners.[/SP]
Unfortunately, the quest seems to be broken. I've killed them two or three different times and the quest never gets resolved. It's also fun to back-up a save and play around with different ways of taking them all out, be it by mininuke or burning the whole thing down.
Can [sp]refugee camps[/sp] spawn if classic combies is on?
I found another [sp]bandit cabin[/sp] and this time [sp]it actually had bandits.[/sp] I [sp]couldn't find the basement after I killed them though[/sp] so I decided to burn it down to [sp]find it.[/sp]
:)
What is a good way to light up the inside of my home when it gets dark? I don't want to waste batteries reading under a flashlight
and nothing is [sp]below it that I can see...[/sp]

Get a lot of wood in a fireplace.

Make a vehicle with a set of controls, a battery, a solar panel, and either headlights aimed through the window or a floodlight - headlights use less energy. When it gets dark, go outside and flip on the headlights. When you're done with the light, turn them off.
[editline]3rd January 2015[/editline]
You can combine it with other vehicle-only objects, like RV kitchen units and such, to create a home unit with effectively infinite energy.
started for the first time in years, died six times, eventually just gave up and did a standard start.
ran out, got chased by a pack of dogs, hopped in a car, drove to freedom, immediately annihilate a bike as dogs bite me from inside the moving vehicle, swerve out of the way of a truck, tear through a storefront, slammed into another car. hopped out, jumped into another car, slam through a zombie and into another car while presumably screaming "JESUS CHRIST" and was trapped in the wreckage as dozens of zombies piled in on me.

I've never found a bandit cabin before. Are they always unmarked?
The only unmarked forest houses I've seen usually contain[sp]the weird cultist blood angel shit. The etched skull makes for a nice trophy, at least. I'm not sure if it does anything, though.[/sp]

Get an oil lamp and fuel from a Mine, those things take ages to run out.

Or a cranial flashlight CBM.
I found an [sp]engraved napkin[/sp] what is this madness
How does one convert an electric forge to be a vehicle electric forge?

If its just for reading, you could make a [sp]Lightstrip, which needs 2 in science, an amplifier circuit, 5 copper wire and 15 batteries. Its a weak light, but lasts 25 hours and is enough to read by[/sp]
Guys, what do you think about a shared world?
My idea:
I set up a github repository with a cataclysm world.
Everyone who wants clones the world. Every time someone loads up their game they update that world. Every time they stop playing they push the changes they made to the repository.
What do you think?

That world sharing idea sounds really fun, but how much effort are required of me (I'm terminally lazy), is it just loading up the world file?
Also, how would mods affect this?
I will test how it works on my laptop and pc and tell you guys.
Ideally you would need to input one console command in the saves folder and that would be it, just load and play. And three commands when you are done playing.
How do you get ASCII back? I miss it.

There should be an tileset selection in the options I believe.
Set "use tiles" to false.
Some day in the future they should make a half and half mode between classical and normal mode
I mean it would be interesting being able to not get buttfucked by creatures of your nightmares unless you tread upon a building that contains Eldridge horrors.
IE: It's normal zombies until you walk into a genetic engineering lab where there's a pen full of shocker brutes and you trip and press the release trigger

You could do this very very easily by editing the monster groups, just delete the special zombies from the list where appropriate and leave the ones that spawn in the labs alone. You could even change it so groups of them spawn to make things more dangerous in there if you wanted to.
Not entirely sure of the proper structure for a mod but I'm sure you could make it into one so you can toggle it on and off.
