It would be nice if you could spot possible minefields with 8 or 9 perception. So instead of actually spotting the exact locations of the mines you just are given an area where mines could possibly be at. That or restrict mine locations to actually sensible locations like near military bases and outposts.
I think in the current version, you can spot mines even at low perception as they gradually reveal themselves the longer you stay in the same place.

Honestly I dunno why everyone is having such a hard time with early game gun stores. First time I came across a reinforced gun store after an update, I just hit the back wall of the firing range with some junk till it broke through. Part of the ceiling collapsed and killed a bunch of zombies trapped inside that came over to see what all the banging was about.
Was it ever explained in-fluff about why there's extensive minefields not even fifty feet from the suburbs? Did the military employ self-digging landmines in the first few hours of the cataclysm, while everyone was busy either running or dying?
One of my longest running characters died because I ran over a landmine buried in somebody's lawn. It's pretty ridiculous how common they are.

It's just like those TV PSAs, where everyone is having fun, and then suddenly LANDMINES!
I'd just wish they were placed in a bit saner way, like placed in places with actual strategic importance, like a road(but these are easy to spot since that part of the road will be full of dirt tiles and dirt mound tiles) [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] or near military bases or some shit

Deep xenophobia and paranoia is enough in my book.

Since the military was deployed for days it's possible they brought in self digging mines a bit later.
It is fairly amusing that they went and came up with a formula to work out how much damage a bullet should deal according to the bullet's real life characteristics but then allow samurai swords to cut through metal robots with little issue.
In my games minefields are always clearly marked, I haven't ran into them for quite some time. [editline]7th August 2015[/editline] As in, there's four posts around the mined area.

As for other ungodly shit (mostly slime): it wasnt enough of a threat to make minefields. There were riots on the other hand. Knowing how grim dark cata is, minefields could easily target rioters.
It is a good feeling when you find a car which can actually drive off the bat without any need for repair. I take it back, the bloody thing needs hotwiring. Grr. Aaaand landmine. Edit: I just read an actually USEFUL newspaper page that was saying all corpses should be butchered to not give away militia positions.
Thats my favorite clipping. "Fuck the Geneva Convention, save our troops!"
Can someone give me a guide on torso encumbrance and melee fighting? No matter what I always seem to end up either having to go full powerarmor for melee with all my stuff dropped, or wearing practically no armor even with decent melee skills just to stop stumbling because of wearing a backpack or something.

Like if I had 10 melee and 4 on my torso?
Even with higher melee skill to compensate for the encumbrance? Like if I had 10 melee and 4 on my torso?
If I remember correctly your melee skill is melee - encumbrence. It can be negative too. If you have 10 melee and 4 things on your torso you should have 6 melee, which is enough to be very effective. But if other bodyparts are also encumbred you will suffer more penalties. Basically a melee character should never wear a backpack when fighting, ditch kevlars (unless they are the super light 1 encumbrence kevlars), wear 2 cargo pants and various tool belts and other 0 encumbrence things for storage. When I had melee chars I would just drop the backpack and some items before a fight. That was a long time ago, maybe they changed it.
What should I change to make NPCs spawn less often. It's okay seeing them occasionally, but annoying when there is one very often.
They changed the way layering works in the experimental branch. Like twice I think, but I remember this post for sure:
New layering penalty rules are as follows: Layering penalty of an item is its encumbrance or 10, whichever is lower. 0 encumbrance items cause 1 layering penalty. Highest layering penalty of each layer is ignored Layering penalty of a body part is the sum of layering penalties of all its layers For example, wearing winter boots (penalty 10) with two pairs of wool socks (5 enc each) and two pairs of regular socks (1 enc each) causes penalty of 7. Boots are ignored (only item in layer) and socks would cause 5+5+1+1-5=7. That -5 is because one pair of wool socks is ignored. Refitting everything would lower the penalty to 2+2+1+1-2 = 4.
As far as I know, the actual encumbrance penalties haven't been changed. To be honest, melee characters are really hard. I don't like them. Not even necessarily because of the higher chance to get killed or injured to the point you can't run, just because the best storage items will all fuck your melee skill. It makes loot runs way less profitable, which makes them way less exciting. I mean yeah you could remove and drop a duffel bag but if you don't also drop enough to bring you below your max encumbrance you would've done better to have the bag still equipped. That's easy with car parts or guns, but if you've been looting food or other small items then good luck. They're still heavily WIP, and most likely will just cause crashes.
Just turn them off, as far as I know there's no spawn rate for them specifically. They're still heavily WIP, and most likely will just cause crashes.
I am pretty sure they have been heavily WIP since Whales Cata, that's at least 2 years ago.
They've done some small things with them, mostly emergency bugfixing and adding some quests, but I recall reading that they're basically so terribly done they have to be completely rewritten. And they have a lot of other stuff they're more interested in finishing.
Didn't they rewrite NPCs for 0.B already?
If I remember correctly your melee skill is melee - encumbrance.
If the wiki isn't horribly outdated in this respect then you are correct, it also increases the action point cost of melee attacks
But if other bodyparts are also encumbred you will suffer more penalties.
Torso encumbrance is the only one that has any impact on your melee skill. Unless you're just saying there are other penalties beyond melee penalties, then never mind. Personally I don't have any issues with melee and encumbrance once it gets up to level 6 or 7 which doesn't take too long if you're mostly using melee. At that point you can easily run around with a backpack and a trench coat and at least never miss due to encumbrance.

What do the tiles for the vehicle look like?
What do the tiles for the vehicle look like?
I don't play baby tile-sets
Even when there's no tileset, I still refer to each square as a tile.
