Well yeah, have you tasted carrots?

Hey whoa man, carrots are awesome. Don't you start talking shit about carrots.

I humbly apologise.
It was a joke made in bad taste, much unlike the carrot, which is also my favourite of all root vegetables.
Possibly all of vegetables in general.

Thing is, I can't imagine someone so stuck up, they wouldn't eat food they hate in a life or death situation. Hell, I'm vegetarian, I'd probably eat meat if it was the only thing in the fridge, and I was too lazy to go to the store :v:

Agreed. I'm pretty much the opposite. I barely touch Veg and only eat apples in regards to fruit. But if I had no other options. I'd eat whatever the hell I could.
I got a great mapgen.

Lots of people say that LMOE shelters only spawn far from roads, and I've never really found one in the wild before, but this one is right by a road and close enough to the city for day trips but with enough forest in the way to work as a good natural defense.
Also if there was one option I wouldn't go without, it's the "circle distances" option or whatever it's called. So instead of moving one square diagonally taking the same time as moving one square straight, it take a little bit longer. It also applies to line of sight and attack distances.
What's the advantage of it?
What's the advantage of it?
It's more realistic and intuitive.
I leave it off because running diagonally to get away from dumb horizontal/vertical running enemies saves me far too often.
Y'know, it pisses me off that when you start a new game the weather is always shit. I'm used to it now but it does add an extra level of annoyance for those first few days. Gotta find a way to reliably keep warm.
If they run vertically and then horizontally, they spend 200 AP vs your 150. It's probably even less than that, probably something like 125. I haven't read up on it in a while.
Change the starting date to not be Spring?

Upon further thought it's not really a problem. It teaches you to occasionally go back inside to warm up and also that there's some stuff in the lockers that exist to keep you warm - at a cost of mobility.
I started ranting without thinking because I got frostnip on day 1 by hanging around outside too long.
After about a year of not playing I'm finally unsalty about being spawned next to a tank that instantly tore threw the evac shelter the moment I opened the door and reduced everything to shredded mush. It's time to go download the latest build and have another crack at Cata.

Unless there's been some recent changes, changing the starting date does not change the expiration date of all perishable items. I set my game to start in Summer, and I quickly and unfortunately discovered that every food object with an expiration date had rotted.

That's true, but there's plenty of canned items available that won't spoil until they're removed from the can.
Does anyone have tips on how to play on a laptop without a keypad?
Yeah. There's actually letters keybinded to movement actions. It's a bit odd at first but you get used to it. Check the keybindings.
So after running into a shocker zombie and shocker brute + corrosive zombie combo i manged to blast their faces off with my double barrel and got out with single bars of hp and 90 pain, a nearby wall collapses and zombie hulk goes 'Aw yeah time to die lil' man' he was three tiles away from me, and i pulled my last ditch effort out of my wheel barrow.

Hahaha holy shit, 5538 damage
Is that all the damage you took? The ripped clothing?

I walked pretty much unscratched, splash damage in this game is crap.
Keep in mind LAW rockets are designed for anti-vehicle combat, not anti-infantry. It's not a grenade, it's a shaped rocket charge. That's probably been considered in the splash damage for it.

Although splash damage IS pretty terrible.
If they incorporated shrapnel that would be cool. Imagine having to perform a surgical procedure on yourself to pull out shrapnel from an explosion.

It probably wouldn't take much doing, either. A state similar to bleeding or infected that causes pain and a chance of infection now and then. Get rid of it by using a knife which makes you scream (for a bunch of noise) and be in MASSIVE pain for a bit. Maybe the state just adds encumbrance to whatever part the shrapnel is in or something.
Is there anything I can do with rotten food, beyond just throwing it away?
Not that I'm aware of. Like 5 or 6 versions ago you could cook it to make it not rotten anymore, but they fixed that.
[editline]31st August 2015[/editline]
I mean there's some stuff that can be used. Like lemons are part of one of the battery recipes, and they can be used even when rotten. Stuff that doesn't rely on the thing being fresh - non-comestibles, mostly - still work fine.
They should add a compost mechanic.
Something like: dig a hole and fill it with rotten stuff, wait a while and you get plant food.
Watch it end up that instead of a sensible, benefits the player use for rotten food they instead make it that rotten food gives off a scent that attracts threats. In the same update they add flying monsters ala older versions of Starbound(those who have played it know and remember when a single flying creature with bubble breath could decimate an entire village). But good news for players! Usable Fleshlights!
Not meant as a rant, just a parody of sorts about how they seem to add multiple things to make stuff harder and the lone thing that(hopefully) isn't out to kill you makes you think "why!?".
I finally downloaded the newest version and I discovered the tilesets.. Normally in ASCII games tilesets make me cringe but in this it just feels so right to me.
I feel like the ASCII in CDDA doesn't do the environment nearly as much justice as Dwarf Fortress does though
I haven't really found any tilesets that I like on Cata.
Anybody knows if planted crops still keeps wielding far less than they do when harvested naturally? Didn't knew if that was a bug, but when I harvested some wild herbs I've planted nearby my base they usually left out 2 or 3 units versus the common 20.
I guess that makes sense balance wise but otherwise I don't know.
