Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - FUCK NO SPORTING GOODS STORES

My last run ended when my legs got burned to hell by a spitter and 3 hulks spawned. If only I had a Molotov I could have been Bill from L4D.
Well, I just encountered an interesting bug. Don't know what caused it, but when I loaded my game my solar base was rotated 180 degrees. Which puts it through the shelter wall since it's an upside-down L normally. On the bright side I can do all of my crafting from one place since my 3x3 sorted pile of everything is adjacent to it now. On the downside my water collection system is now indoors which means I have to dismantle it.
Edit: Aha! I found out how to reproduce it easily: attempt to drag a vehicle that you don't have the strength for, save, then load the game. The vehicle will have rotated according to the direction you tried to move it in. Time to file a bug report.
Edit2: Oh, I AM strong enough to drag my entire base vehicle. Coooool...
So, finally have a successful character going at the moment using my new favourite build.
The Amazing, Mutating (Genetically unstable and Robust genetics) Dragon Kung fu master called Feng Shui!
The Dragon style is insanely good in the beginning, as well as later in game, with the crazy crit chances and counter attacks.
He's also appropriately mutating into a raptor at the time.
Notable accomplishments so far:
-Killing a hulk with his hands.
-Finding a vibrator, fighting off and killing 7-8 zombies during a "stress release" session.
[editline]edit[/editline]
Also, there seems it've become harder to find decent CBMs than I remember?
You could just be having bad luck with the world gen.
I'm fukken invincible!*
I can dodge everything save for bullets and acid, and my melee skill is so high I've stopped bothering attacking actively, I mostly just get myself swarmed and let the counter-attacking do the work. I've procured a full [sp]heavy power armour[/sp] set, and most CBMs.
Any ranged opponent gets vaporized by my [sp]fusion rifle[/sp].
I started out with an electric bicycle and ended up modifying it into a small 3x4 square-ish tri-cycle with one cargo space, kitchen, fridge, and kitchen-buddy, and recently, fitted with a back-up [sp]mini reactor[/sp]
and three [sp]fusion engines (total max speed 978 km/h)[/sp]. I also made it amphibious...
So what's left to do now?
Oh, also: my character haven't slept in 'bout half a year in game because of that sweet, sweet [sp]atomic coffe[/sp] :v:
*[sp](Bullets not covered by warranty)[/sp]
Just randomly saw this game pop up on Toucharcade. There's an iOS version!
I've never had such a perfect start go to shit so fast for me.
I started my usual sheltered start while trying out the "stats from skills" mod an had a point in medieval swordsmanship hoping to debug a zweihander in later to try out the skills. My LMOE shelter had a purse and messenger bag enough for me to carry all the food and a light assault rifle with 60 bullets. I took it all, managed to avoid a zombear within the first few steps, and found a desolate mansion with a zweihander in the first room I broke into. So i immediately went to work on the zombies and looted the library. It had 2 pools so I stayed there for a bit killing the wandering wildlife for meat and reading everything i possibly could. It boosted my stats to almost all 12's so that mod is pretty broken.
When I decided to wander out I found another mansion filled at the entrance with ornamental plate armors, helmets and weapons. It had 2 kitchens and even more books. I spent a few days there until I read all the books and then headed out again looking for a town to loot. On the way there, I saw a Mi-go, and immidiately dropped all my shit and backpacks so I could hit it, but my first hit lodged the sword into it and it ran off into the nearby river...
Then when I fought a cougar later with my broad sword it got lodged in that too while it ran away....
THEN when I found a working motor cycle it drove for a few feet before it's engine completely died out. Now i'm stuck in the middle of nowhere with no weapons and no food lol.
anyone know where I can get a UPS bionic?
I think tech zombies can drop it if your survival is high and you have a good enough butchering tool.
Also my op character fucking died to a mil spec turret. Why did I even bother opening a bunker with just light survivor armor fuck everything.
welp that was literally my fastest run yet
chose the Hardened Scavenger preset and a fucking [sp]flaming eye[/sp] immediately shot a beam of light at me through the window
smashed out the entire side wall of the cabin and crushed me under the collapsing ceiling
I once left spawn only to get mauled by a zombear.

i don't think the hand of god will deliver you from .50 BMG
also, here are some in-game loot tips:
- hacksaws can cut the steel bars off of gun store windows (so do acetylene torches, but then you need welding goggles if you don't wanna fry your retinas)
- sledgehammers are op as fuck, grab one from a fire station and smash through the walls of alarmed buildings/reinforced windows
- don't waste picklock kits on doors if you can help it. save them for gun safes in rich houses.
- bolt cutters take the padlocks off gates
- e + the direction of a barbed wire fence will instantly take it down (this is also how you climb chain link fences)
- mine entrances sometimes have outbuildings with military-grade charges or pickaxes. the latter will tunnel through literally any material in the game.

Pretty sure you can use a stethoscope to open safes, and also makeshift picklocks are insanely cheap and light, so you can carry some of those for doors if you don't want to use a crowbar or just bash it in.
Sledgehammer tip is A+, always have one available to take with you after you clear out a bank or similarly reinforced building if you can't get to the computer. Just be really careful to wear a helmet and some armor, because it can collapse the ceiling on you.
Lockpicks can also take the padlocks off gates, and they're lighter. Still though, always have at least one of every tool available in case you need to shred some fences. In most cases you can just ignore it and jump the fence.

deffo, but i mean the weird gun safes in the randomly generated houses. you can only open them with a lockpick (which has a chance to jam the lock) or smash it to scrap metal which destroys most of the items inside.

Huh. I guess I probably haven't come across any of those, then.

I came across one but at the time I already found a locksmith kit and high mechanics. I also accidentally put on that boring generic gun mutator :(. I was just a revolver though, so it was probably just a rivtech revolver.
Drove up to a town in the pickup I found working only to be greeted by two shocker brutes and a plethora of other zeds. The normal ones aren't any issue but shockers in general always fuck me up. Considered running away but I just said "fuck it" and started ramming the truck into the brutes. Fully expected the truck to die on me but it held up and I ended up killing the two brutes and all but two, out of probably about 20, zeds purely on accident. Was pretty metal, there were chunks of flesh and blood trails everywhere.
Boy i've been experimenting with stimulants and other moral uppers and it's funny as hell. I'm listening to music, playing guitar, snorting coke with a bunch of other drugs hoping to not die before I finish reading lab books :v:
Edit:
Also managed to kill my first tank drone today. The vehicle additions mod let me strap a 150mm cannon on my super RV and took care of it in 1 shot. When I first saw the tank drone I backed up and went around the block to prepare nades and any other sort of equipment, then when I went back, it had disappeared and hid in the houses somewhere and eventually found itself with a gas station between me and itself. I managed to blow up the tank drone without blowing up the gas station.
So what's the deal, when's the next update due?
There's a new update every few hours if you use experimental.
Stable not so much.
So what's the deal, when's the next update due?
The experimental builds are still released every few hours and generally work (ish). They're different to the stable build but not really by a large amount - so I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of a wait before 0.D is released.

Something weird is going on with my character and I'm not fully sure what.
I randomly teleported while repairing my car, then I got the shakes and now I'm mutating randomly?
It's not even been an hour of in game time and I've gained and lost Near-Sighted and gained Growling Voice. Still have the shakes, there's no obvious cause from the 'Effects' part of the status window.
While trying to sleep the following happened:
'You feel a little strange.
Glowing lights surround you, and you teleport.
The world takes on a dreamlike quality.
You feel sick to your stomach.
You feel nauseous, but your stomach is empty.
You wake up.'
I then woke up 3 map tiles away lol what is going on. Still got the shakes, too. Oh god monsters are spawning all over the place WHAT DID I DO.
Did an eye stare at you or something?
Seems you got a bad case of the otherworldly attention

There was a flaming eye that I'd have to drive past going to and from my base. I've killed it now, and the weird stuff seems to have stopped! Thank-you!
A few more days and I'll have survived a whole year in the cataclysm! Not often I manage to last this long!
Anyone know where to find a [sp]portal generator?[/sp] Lab finales or bunkers?
I'm on experimental.
Huh, did you guys know that loading a save while sitting inside a floating vehicle will make it disappear/sink?
I didn't.
I lost everything I didn't keep on me, and I almost drowned. I had to frantically scavenge through a lab to find some plutonium to make me a new [sp]nuclear coffe-maker (cause sleeping's for suckers) [/sp].
This also kinda ruined my plans about building Mother Base in a lake.
Wanna start a new game since I played a few months ago and I need to ask: should I play with NPCs on?

Shoot a nuke at a lake. It's not the same as a floating base, but it's a start.
Hadn't played in a while so I loaded up the latest experimental. Magazines are a thing now, at least for certain weapons. You have to manually load the magazines before you can shoot anything (you can load an empty magazine into a weapon but obviously that doesn't let you do much). Also a small change, but you only fill containers with water by 10 units at a time instead of until full all at once.
The latest experimentals NPC quest lines were greatly improved, tough don't quite know if this was done recently since I never really bothered with them until now.
The quest line for the refugee center for example leads to NPCs establishing an outpost on a nearby farm, complete with NPCs you can hire, doctor to heal you and an NPC selling land you can buy and them pay them to farm it for you and a bar. You can also put your companions to work receiving money for it.
All of this is done in steps by the way, by completing quests for the foreman in the ranch new buildings get built together with the NPC staffing them.
NPC's also acknowledge you as a US Marshall if you do the quest line for the Old Guard, NPCs are really starting to look good now can't wait for what happens next.
