Boy, I should get into C:DDA again. Especially at work, turn based stuff like this is handy when you gotta answer phones.
"Hello, yes, this is... HOLY FUCK A HULK"
I haven't played DDA in like 6 months. I've been trying to wait for a new stable release so I could get a full list of all the new features without having to scour the forum, but it's getting difficult to wait.
Cataclysm DDA: Death on wheels

MRE contents are amusingly accurate.
Did you guys hear that Wales abandoned Cataclysm 2? Due to "all the strain when writing a game".
Whelp, if he isn't a miser with the source code, at least we could see DDA 2 or something.
So learning that amphibious vehicles exist, is it possible to build a floating barge that eventually becomes large enough to become an island
I've always wanted a coastal map generator for this reason. And if I'm correct, you can theoretically do this having it function like an RV, but on water.
Whelp, if he isn't a miser with the source code, at least we could see DDA 2 or something.
There is a github for Cata 2, though it's been a year since that code was updated and according to whale's devblog he was working on it as of last November so what's there is probably outdated.
I installed the latest experimental at work and tried to play it but I found that taking a single step took about an in-game day. Weird bug. No wonder I was getting instakilled when I stepped outside.
Also, I can't remember if I mentioned this idea before: It'd be awesome if the map generator changed biomes depending on your distance from the start point. Like if you went a substantial distance straight east you'd eventually get to the coast biomes, and north would get colder, different types of structures, wildlife etc.
Yeah I've always thought this game would benefit from a Dwarf Fortress-like (sorry, it's the only comparison I could think of) biome generation system. Maybe not so insanely in-depth but at least make it feel less "the entire world is forests and suburbs"
Okay so I have an issue where if I empty a magazine and don't have any more of the exact ammo I used to fill it (9x19 reloaded jhp vs 9x19 jhp), then the mag will refuse to accept any other caliber appropriate ammo. Has anyone else run into this or know of a workaround? Also that was weirdly difficult to explain.
the only firearms that let you mix ammo types are some shotguns where you load one shell at a time. any weapon where you load the entire magazine at once wont let you load more than one ammo type

If it's the former just select it from the inventory and (U)nload it.
the only firearms that let you mix ammo types are some shotguns where you load one shell at a time. any weapon where you load the entire magazine at once wont let you load more than one ammo type
No, it isn't that. Lets say I have 50 rounds of FMJ 9x19. I empty a magazine that was filled with 15 rounds of JHP 9x19. The magazine then won't reload because it no longer recognizes FMJ as being a valid ammo type. The magazine is empty. I can bypass this by loading some more JHP and then unloading the magazine. The manually unloaded magazine will allow me to swap ammo types. I'm not mixing ammo types.

Cataclysm DDA: Ooh whats tha- Never mind, its just DEATH
Likely a bug, the DDA community is a fucking goat market and development is largely uncoordinated.
Not to mention that magazines are a fairly recent addition if I'm not mistaken so them being buggy as fuck doesn't surprise me. Hell, you can still keep a "dead" character by alt+F4ing out of a game at the death screen. The game just loads you up at the last time you saved and yet your corpse will be right where you died with everything you had on you when you died. I guess nobody thought to update the game saves when it's updating the world info after you die.

The issue, or well at least used to be an issue was people with little to no experience in C++ just copypasting code.
I need to try generating a world with cities so large they connect to each other and taken over all land [editline]1st March 2016[/editline] Basically DDA in LA
Crank it up even more and you get Coruscant simulator.
I think I am going to abandon building characters with moodswing trait entirely, not even joints are good enough to help you back into a state where you can actually cook food again, this system is utterly retarded, it should not hinder you so much that you cant even roll a joint in the game or cook a piece of god damn meat. Its just adding another coin flip to the game. On that matter the RNG in this game is the worst I have experienced ever, its either die within the first few turns or get absolutely spoiled with everything your heart could desire and then dying of boredom. Then again I keep on going because I just want to play for a year and see how many old as whales bugs they havent put away their fursuit feature development/copypasta rigging in meme item aspirations to fix yet.

Only issue is that current it is kind of repetitive due to the lack of proper z-levels. With proper z-levels though it would be absolutely amazing. Imagine building a base on the top floor of a skyscraper.
Even with the updates to NPCs random NPCs are still terrible. Had one run up to me while I was getting attacked by a group of zombies and attack me with a crowbar. He really wanted my combat knife I guess.

Windshields serve no purpose, do they?
They can serve as a short lasting barrier between you and the things on the other side of them. IIRC they will block acid from spitters and shit too.
