Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead - FUCK NO SPORTING GOODS STORES
3,120 replies, posted
I'm on my 3rd day as a psychotic bionic soldier from a helicopter crash who killed the started NPC for his sweet, sweet sledgehammer and thanks to Metabolic Interchange, Implanted Night Vision and a lucky string of looting I still haven't slept yet (thanks caffeine pills).
Been using all the still unspoiled food everywhere to fuel my energy to use Night Vision and Adrenaline Pump, using half my starting ammo to get rid of most zombies in town and then coasting the rest of the way with my sledgehammer.
Making myself comfortable in an apartment complex and I already found two perfectly working cars. I'm planning on clearing the rest of the town and then heading down south at that Megamart place.
Nothing is better than finding probability travel. Makes bunkers require 0 military id's which I cannot find in my world for some reason

Still better than orbitaining enough gear and military IDs just to see the bunker explode for no reason under your eyes.

I'm pretty sure you can get through the doors if you have explosives. Grenades used to work just fine.

This IS Cataclysm: DDA. Wouldn't surprise me if there was an undocumented change that either made blasting doors down much harder or disabled it altogether. But on the "good" news, it adds an Elvis wig, elven clothing to go with elven mutations, the ability to tame monsters by using crack or dildos on them and of course [sp]duck, mouse, alligator, donkey and unicorn fur suits!!![/sp]
Do cigars and cigarettes stack when it comes to increasing intelligence? Is there any other way to temporarily boost my intelligence? I'm just wondering what I need to stack to go through books with low intel (8).
I think sugary snacks will give you an int boost if you eat enough.
Well looks like cocaine gives me +5 intel so looks like I found my solution.
Good thing I took the addiction resistance and substance tolerance traits.
You can blow through doors no problem AFAIK, at least on the version I am playing which is probably a couple of weeks out of date. My main issue at the moment is finding ways to deal with the machine enemies (turrets, etc). It seems like even to throw a grenade or whatever I have to get within range for the bloody things to shoot me. I've taken to using the time freeze bionic and just running up to them and punching them to death - but they explode and hurt me so it is not ideal. Explosives seem very rare and anything that's explosive AND ranged is even more so. I'll have to work it out.
Jesus CHRIST. FYI, if you want to raid a megastore just keep in mind that they have about 60 regular zombies in them.
Thankfully I layed-down a grid of nail board traps and I was able to lure them out in groups (the interior is dark so don't use a flashlight or you'll aggro ALL of them) but the first group was 20-something big and I had to use all my remaining rifle ammo and light bushes on fire and I was lucky enough to have a dog distract half of them.
I was more prepared for the other groups as I used my car to gain some distance if things got hairy but still don't under estimate that place.

That's about 30 of the 60 bodies here.

Correction, it's more like 80 zombies in there.

Okay, let's just round it up to a 100.
THEY'RE DEAD. THEY'RE ALL DEAD.
Feels strange seeing the same tileset but not in isometric mode as I'm used to.
Don't forget to cauterise that wound!

There's a few options. Guns with long range are one. If you can get a decent angle, bows at night work too. Turrets don't fire on things they don't see, and if it's night they can't see you if you're not in the light they give off.

You can craft them pretty easily tbh if you have the skills. EMP grenades just need a decent electronic skill, don't remember what regular frag grenades need. Now things like grenade launchers, yea I really wish there was a "pipe" version or something.

Don't worry, I used some medkits.

I must admit that crafting is something I never really got into. I'm trying to get the hang of it but with my character in such a late game state it feels somewhat pointless as everything I can make I have no need for. Maybe a new character would make better use of it.
I found some small warehouse by a river and decided to set up a little garage there. I dragged damaged vehicles back and repaired them before lining them up outside as though it was a showroom. Pointless, but kind of fun.
I've also found mines to be quite fun ways to get fun loot with little risk of injury - provided you have some sort of gas mask, the prizes at the bottom seem fun.

They're so rare in my world I've literally found 4 in my 2 years of exploring and surviving.

The night thing is interesting and something I had never considered, which might make it a tad easier to get a bit closer and shoot 'em with my glock. I'll definitely look into EMP grenades and stuff though, seems like they're the next thing I need.
Some of the high tier crafting is pretty neat. Metal working can take some time to get all the tools you need but being able to make plate armor and any sword you could want is pretty cool, if not entirely practical. But you know what? Fuck it, if I want to run around in full plate with a Zweihänder while lobbing home made grenades then damn it I will.

My char is at the point where I can take on entire mobs at once granted there's no hulks/etc thrown in
I actually am running out of stuff to do

That's pretty much the biggest issue with this game. Once you get to a point there's literally almost nothing to do unless you make your own fun.

Did you make a deathcar that can plow through anything?
Did you make a deathcar that can plow through anything?
Or a monstrosity that amounts to several shopping carts/wheel barrels fused to a bike, then has a small car cab and seat duct taped to it? As well as alternating spikes and metal welded to each cart/barrel?
Did you even think to do such a thing with humble shopping cart/wheel barrels?
What about them? They've been in the game for a while, they're pretty useful if you have a road leading to somewhere you're trying to loot.

It's just the first time I've seen them. Pretty cool idea haha.
How do rollerskates work with parkour expert?
Well parkour expert simply reduces the penalty for moving over obstacles while rollerskates makes you move faster over floors and slower over dirt. Guess it depends if the obstacle is on dirt or not.
I've been running around with Ornamental Armor, a great helm, and an awl pike and fucking shit up. Only downside is i just cannot hit anything small like those fucking zombie children.
Its worth it though.
The awl pike is amazing. I sort of wish I could upgrade it somehow aside from simple improvement.
Simple improvement?
I was wondering if there was a way to repair my now red condition sword - are they linked?
