Fallout Thread V30: The universe where everyone is left handed
Honestly, Pipe weapons are dumb no matter from what angle you look at them. In reality, most handmade weapons would be akin to current single-action, break-action, pump-action and bolt-action weapons as they are fairly simple in concept.
Semi and automatic weapons would be rarity in actual post apocalyptic settings. You mean a gun that can shoot as fast as I can pull the trigger or fire continuously as I hold down the trigger without having to load each individual round into chamber myself. Holy SHIT!
But apparently in Fallout universe anyone can build an automatic gun with just bit of wood, plumbing pipes and wire.
open bolt automatics are really easy to make. semi autos not so much

open bolt guns are pretty much a dead end above .38 though because everything above that has to compromise power to get an open bolt blow back design to work, locked breech is basically manditory above small pistol calibers

not even a little bit true. most light machine guns and GPMGs are open bolt (off the top of my head, BAR, M249, M60, PKM, Lewis Gun, and in the LMG configurations Stoner 63s and Steyr AUGs). all you gotta do is make the bolt heavier or the spring stiffer or come up with a delay mechanism like HK uses.
Not all open bolt guns are unlocked. Most, if not all machine guns that fire open bolt are locked breech guns. Only most SMGs are open bolt straight blowback guns, and Sableye is right in about that, past a certain threshold it needs to have a locked breech, BUT it could still be open bolt since that can be simpler to make and maintain since you dont really need a hammer mechanism.
i know i'm super late to the party on this, since i've been very slowly and sporadically progressing through fallout 4 since its release, but anyway
i'm getting near the point of no return for each faction and i have no fucking idea what to do. can someone, with as few spoilers as possible, convince me which faction is the best to side with? sorry if this is a cliche question that a million people asked before
None of them matter anyway so just go with the Minutemen since they're your bland vanilla option (not really different from the other bland vanilla options I guess)
i should probably have mentioned in the original question
nothing can convince me to side with the minutemen more than the settlement quests can convince me to not side with the minutemen
so just between the other 3

just chose whoever, it's not like you can't go back and do it again if you want
it's an RPG so chose what your character would choose, IMO
chose what your character would choose, IMO
my character is just as indecisive as i am
i guess i can go back and play each questline, though i'd rather pick one as the "primary" run
Roll a dice if you're not particularly attached to any of them I guess. I really wish there was an independent option though.

The Institute foolishly waste their technological prowess to focus on enslaving sentient beings instead of advancing the post-nuclear world.
The Brotherhood are technocratic fascists who only care about keeping the public in the dark ages and persecuting any non-humans.
The Railroad aims to free the commonwealth from both of their influences.

Basically this. Even if you can RP the idea that your character can make the Institute change its ways, you still have to destroy the Railroad, who are all around good people, if a little idealistic.

the thing is, the brotherhood only cares about like really high tech stuff, stuff most people in the post-war US have no need for, haptic drives, computer parts, esoteric stuff.
diamond city is still allowed to keep it's atomic power generator, robots are still widely used by citizens or are even just roaming around, machines for making and maintaining firearms are everywhere, the minutemen build fucking cannons and the Brotherhood doesn't mind.
I'd hardly call water purifiers, fusion reactors, laser/plasma weapons, robots, artillery, books, radios, equipment for making shelters, medicine and the means to produce all of those things the "dark ages"
also the railroad are a bunch of filthy hippie losers and I enjoy every time I kill them all.
same goes for the sub captain, fuck that guy.

Yikes, sounds like someone's got a complex.
You seem like the kind of person who sided with Caesar cause you liked how brutal they were.
The bos are organized raiders who justify their looting by twisting morality's arm off, the institute is a bunch of arrogant morons playing god without any purpose whatsoever, the railroad are a bunch of hippies who "free" synths from their dreadfully sanitary and safe enviromoment so that they can run wild only to be shot by raiders, and the minutemen are your own private army.
Now choose!

NCR all the way, I don't like brutality against civilians and normal people like literal autist slaver Caesar does. But killing dangerous subversive jethead morons, well that's different.
The the RR didn't give two shits about the safety of the commonwealth so long as their precious goo filled robots were protected.
At least the BOS wanted to take the dangerous toys away from people who would cause widespread destruction aka NERDS and HIPPIES
The only good synth is a dead synth.
[sp]except cutie-pie Curie and my boy Shaun, they're the good ones[/sp]
[sp]also, extra double fuck that sub captain guy[/sp]
and the minutemen are your own private army.
With a drug addict with a face that looks really off, annoying angry constantly bitching woman, consistently without fail depressed man, Sturges who I don't actually mind, and mr. "SETTLEMENT NEEDS OUR HELP AND YOU CAN'T AVOID THIS RADIANT QUEST UNLESS YOU AVOID THIS ENTIRE FACTION OR GET MODS :^)"
They somehow managed to make the option closest to independent my least favorite. At least two of those five you can just kill off.
is there a mod to add motion blur that works?

Don't know if spoilers, but you shouldn't be able to read if it's thumb'd.
Curie garbage tier. Would throw in dumpster.

Now Ada.
She's a true beaut.
my major qualm with the railroad is that, though they have good ideals imo, they really don't have any sort of a plan for what to do after they've succeeded in their mission, so the wasteland will just basically stay in anarchy. i think i'm gonna go with them anyway, with the hope that in the future, some sort of governing body will emerge that isn't stupid, filled with assholes, or both - unlike the two powerful existing factions

Oh there is plenty of opportunities to ask Father about all that type of stuff. [sp] Unfortunately, most of these moments are in complete passing and if you're lucky enough to decipher the two-word dialogue prompts and pick an option that actually has you asking shaun wtf he's on about, it gets handwaved away. In fact, any explanation tends to get handwaved away enough that you're unsure if this is a character trait of Shaun being dishonest, or if Beth just doesn't know. I don't think Beth knows. [/SP]

Barring the slow protectron legs and the sentry arm, she's almost identical to the base model of Assaultron, I've got tons of robots just like that.
