My biggest problem with Fallout 4 is that I didn't enjoy it more. I got my hours of genuine fun in, so I can't fault the game for not entertaining me for hundreds of hundreds of hours. I just kinda wish it did, since that's Bethesda's thing.
Now I only play the game to check out new SimSettlement's updates. Usually around this time in a Beth games lifecycle, I'm loading it up with hundreds of new mods ready to discover shit I didn't even know existed in the game.
I'm fairly sure even Fallout 4's biggest critics on this forum wouldn't say they didn't enjoy playing it.
Personally, the fact I can enjoy the game just makes me more disappointed by the more lacklustre elements. Ive never seen so much unrealised potential in a game before.
I enjoyed Fallout 4 when I first got it. I don't enjoy it anymore though I'm still trying.
I've played through Fallout 4 at least six times now. It is a fun game, long as you don't take the story that seriously and change up how you play it each time. I did a playthrough without VATS and with submachine guns, for example. Playing Survival mode is pretty fun once you've beaten the game a few times as well, long as you don't mind the tedium.
I love survival mode, I always play with it on. I'm also using iHud to hide the sneak indicator, so I don't have a wacky 6th sense if I'm being seen or not. Adds a lot more suspense, and use of actual tactics.
After around 6 or 7 characters, I'd have to say that my child of atom/radiation build is my favorite. 90% of my hp is taken by radiation, but my defenses are 400+, and I'm capable of killing nearly anything with 5 or less bullets(using the kiloton radium rifle)
Don't feel bad, it used to be much worse.
if my memory serves me, when Fallout 4 released and I posted in this very thread about how it didn't look very good and a lot of the big selling points were kind of gimmicky, I was given a mountain of boxes the likes of which I've never seen since
I feel like fallout 4 has the most tedious early game of any bethesda game. I've done so many runs of skyrim and new vegas and sure the beginnings started to get real old but after only a few playthroughs I've loaded up some mods for a new game and given up right after bumping into preston and pals for the 50th time. Maybe it's just because they are the most annoying NPCs ever but I always play good characters and it'd feel wrong to leave them forever.
I've just skipped them entirely. I don't even go into the town they're having the shootout in, if my character never sees them then it's not really his fault lol

As someone who hasn't played since his release run, are there any mods you would say are essential to a survival mode run? Don't need anything massive, just wanna know if there are some smaller stuff that make it more interesting.
[editline]10th May 2017[/editline]
I would look through myself, but I tried checking the nexus and I don't even know where to start
[editline]10th May 2017[/editline]
Might give this a go:
http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/17374/?
Anyone got experience with that? Mostly want a mod that makes enemies less tanky, but also makes combat more deadly for the player as well.

i haven't touched any overhaul mods, or anything that changes the game in a big way. i mainly use small cosmetic, and immersive mods.
Decided to give fallout 4 another run, mostly thanks to the enhanced energy weapons gore mod.
Couldn't make a face I was happy with, It's at the point where Ive played with the same character for so long that the protagonist's voice sounds fucking weird coming out of any other character's face- So I simply imported my Handsome Jack/ Hotline Miami inspired character and edited him a little.
Finally found a decent cybernetics mod, I'm going to do the whole run as a technology obsessed, Cybernetics addicted, Raider.

Probably going to fall in with the Railroad because I just can't see the brotherhood or the Institute putting up with a dude who welds bits of generation 3 synths to his body.
could someone message jonu67 to fix the images in the OP?
Does anyone know how to make the NMM work on a SSD'd New Vegas?
I think Skyrim takes the cake on that one, and it's a game I played for more than a thousand hours. I'm still playing it.
Skyrim is certainly wasted potential but it's not nearly as much as FO4 is

I keep trying to play it but it runs so fucking bad that after a while I quit my playthrough, only to come back a few months later going "I'm sure I can deal with the performance issues this time"

Speaking of Fallout 4 performance, I'm currently reinstalling it to try out Special K. Apparently it has some stuff that can massively boost performance on modern games, I'm going to see if it helps for Fallout 4 specifically.
Friend of mine said using this thing's fps limiter as well as options such as enabling texture caching, skipping non-mipmapped textures and reducing target frametime to between 150 and 100 should help reduce stuttering significantly.

I sort of can't, the images might as well no longer exist, Rudy made them ages ago and I never bothered to back them up and I guess he must have deleted them.
So presumably, unless I can get them off him, we might need replacement images for the next thread.

this has at least most of the images. missing stuff for fallout 4 though
See, you're not allowed to enjoy Fallout 4 in this thread. If you try to the regulars will be sure to shit on you for it. Don't feel bad, it used to be much worse.
He can enjoy it, it has its good points. But I would also like to put my thoughts into the mix. I almost added a cheeky "oops I'm shitting on Fallout 4 again" to the end of my post but I didn't. You're acting like 4 disagree ratings and 3 posts is dogging on someone.
imgur has been deleting a lot of stuff lately. I don't think rudy deleted them.

Ah, didn't know about that, well once he comes on steam I'll ask him for them so I can replace them.
So, an update on using Special K. It fucking works.
It takes a lot of settings and some compromises, but it prevents FPS slogs, and even when it drops to 40 (which only happens to me on top of Corvega now, and only at certain angles) it doesn't have outright stuttering.
It's a bit flimsy to install and I had to drop shadow quality and distance to medium. Everything else on High and textures on Ultra. Runs considerably better.

Would it work combined with shadow boost for shadows as far as the eye can't see because they're shadows?

I assume so ? It's worth a try.

Very simple approach to the idea, it literally just sticks your head on a synth body, or DiMA's.
Looks terrible when your character is naked (as in wearing no equipment, revealing outfits work fine) , elements of the DiMA body don't work with power armor- but otherwise it works with a surprising number of vanilla and modded outfits.
The DiMA one is my preference for that scrappy wasteland DIY cybernetics look.
