Isn't there a perk that lets you break down weapons for components? I seem to remember that being a thing.
You can scrap weapons by default, its just that with Scrapper you get more bang for your buck in that you can now find uncommon materials such as copper or aluminum. With Far Harbor: Rank 3 increases the amount of uncommon parts you receive.
i'd be super happy if someone made a weapon pack that replaces the guns in the game with guns from the older games. i wouldn't even care if they had limited mods for each one like in NV, just having a plethora of weapons to come across would make the game so much more enjoyable. same for apparel, theres like 5 really different outfits you see in the game.
Why replace? Why not just add the guns from the old games?
Speaking of old guns, I am pretty sure I'm not alone in thinking I liked the designs of the FO1/2 laser weapons more than the current iterations. It's like Bethesda used all their creativity for stuff like the Railway Rifle and the Shishkebab and made the laser weapons as visually uninteresting as they could.

Laser and plasma weapons look like someone walked into a hardware store and welded a bunch of plumbing supplies together. The original plasma rifle is about as iconic a weapon as Fallout had, but Bethesda threw it and the rest of the energy weapons right out the window. And then in 4, they redesign every weapon again except for their shitty laser and plasma guns. Also the super sledge. /grumpyoldman
I like the big, chunky industrial laser weapons of FO3 and FO4 (the FO4 iteration more because it feels more complete), but the kind of sleeker consumer grade stuff like what FO1 and 2 had was also nice. They're both valid designs in my opinion, although I think the FO1/2 designs don't actually translate too well into 3D when just ported raw with no other alterations.

You kind of have to do an impression of what the sprite felt like, which isn't the same for everyone. My personal example of that is the Bozar, a weapon I loved in Fallout 2, but don't think the New Vegas version captured very well.
There's now a mod making the sound for passing through bushes in New Vegas louder. I didn't even know there was a sound, what the heck

I guess bethesda did the energy weapons the way they did so there was more of a visual difference from your standard bullet firing weapon look. But anyway, I find the lack of actual weapon variation in FO4 to be kinda depressing, especially when compared to FO:NV. Seems they really just focused on being able to customise your weapon so much they even left out some of the fun parts of weapons like having actual unique weapons scattered around the map.
Well to be fair if you spend time adding different barrels and grips and sights for one weapon you can't spend that time on other models. I also feel like the average model quality for weapons is higher than NV, which had more guns but the models were all over the place. Doesn't mean they couldn't have worked more guns in there, but considering they had to make a new system, learn to use it well and make content that use it, it makes sense there'd be less guns.
Speaking of lever actions, is it me or do they always just feel kind of flimsy in all of the recent fallout games ? The lever animation in particular is always off in some regard. In fallout 3 and NV it's too fast, in Fallout 4 there's not enough movement put into it. It's like a pump action without a good pump animation, it just feels like it's missing something.
H...how do you reload it
I think you discard one
I always feel like there's only 5 guns in 4. I know there's like 10 I think? But it always feels so limited. NV had a whole range of weapons, even if it was a small amount . I'm still irritated that the combat shotgun and rifle are literally the same weapon just different ammunition and firing modes
iirc it's about 33 total in vanilla
Has the penetrating legendary effect been fixed yet? Last time I heard it just does 14% more damage instead of ignoring 30% armour. Would Radical Conversion radium rifle with an armour piercing modification be worth it, or be an absolute hinderance?

It can be bought by the weapons merchant in the nucleus. If you didn't know, it has the explosive legendary prefix, and it makes the glass cannon radiation/child of atom build 100% viable.
I wish there was a more 50's military/sci-fi looking automatic rifle than the gigantic WW1 water cooled one or the flimsy looking combat rifle that uses PISTOL rounds, something that looks like it was designed for infantry use. The M-14, despite being a real world weapon, would kind of fulfill this role, it has ww2 influences from the m1 such as a wood body and the m1 style receiver, but also looks like a big chunky modern rifle with it's nice box magazine and plastic materials. Unfortunately, every mod maker would rather make modern tacticool picatinny rail shit then make something that makes sense for a world fashioned around 50's consumer goods and military designs.
Laser and plasma weapons look like someone walked into a hardware store and welded a bunch of plumbing supplies together.
As if this huge clunky thing has it any better. Might've been outsourced, or more likely a similar situation like HalluciGen just cobbling up their own product out of already existing products without permission (see: the InvisiWave consisting of two hacked Stealth Boys).

That's really all there is to it. The Plasma Caster/Plasma Defender are the only ones I really like tbh. The Wattz rifle only looks cool because the sniper rifle it's a slight edit of looks cooler, and the Wattz pistol is just...weird. The Bethesda laser weapons are some of my favourites in any sci-fi thing, simply because they actually look functional and aren't shoehorned into looking like standard guns.
The Plasma Caster doubles as a melee weapon, or it would if the game supported gun bashing.
The Plasma Caster doubles as a melee weapon, or it would if the game supported gun bashing.
If we ever get a quality plasma caster mod, it needs to come with a melee weapon that's a caster's barrel modified into a spear
Looks like the people who did that Lanius fan-video are doing a Burned Man one.
I'm getting FPS drops a lot whenever I'm out in the wasteland these days and it's really annoying. No idea what is causing it.
The game's poor optimization? [editline]January 10th, 2017[/editline] or if you've made major manual edits to your config files you could try deleting those and let the game remake the default ones. fixed some huge FPS drops for me. if not, could be mods.

Only mods that could be doing something is Vivid Weathers or War of the Commonwealth at a guess.
I'm getting FPS drops a lot whenever I'm out in the wasteland these days and it's really annoying. No idea what is causing it.
I feel you, the same thing started happening to me a few months after getting the game...
Whenever I go into the Commonwealth now, the load screen likes to show only the loading icon in the corner and loads everything for like 6 minutes. Never had this issue before.
Whenever I go into the Commonwealth now, the load screen likes to show only the loading icon in the corner and loads everything for like 6 minutes. Never had this issue before.
Yeah, I get the same problem. Sometimes alt-tabbing out and back in will fix it.
What happened exactly to that mod that added the New Vegas chems to 4 (i.e: Cateye)? Can't seem to find it anymore on the Nexus.
Are you guys playing the game on a conventional hard drive, or a Solid State drive? I had the same loading issue till I got an SSD and put a few of my games on it. Are there any HUD mods that might bug out and make the Hud disappear permanently? I loaded my game up and I can't see anything except my selected grenades
