I loved how each faction in NV was so fleshed out, and had so many little subplots and you could choose whatever side you wanted.
Wish we got that again, but bigger.
IIRC we've got multiple years until the next TES, let alone Fallout, because of Bethesda working on two same-scale projects between now and then.
There's time for Obsidian to rescue us again, if Bethesda allows it.
This is a bit unpopular I'm sure, but a problem with the kind of story that New Vegas wants to have is that it's ultimately quite incompatible with that sort of grand scale AAA game development. I think it works best for smaller projects that are able to dedicate more time to the story alone because people expect way less from them in terms of graphics and gameplay and all that - the reason Obsidian was able to put so much stuff in here from a story standpoint is notably because the gameplay and engine were already here and only required minimal tweaks and additions from their end.
Like it was already difficult enough for CDPR to put The Witcher 3 together, it would have been impossible if they put the kind of freedom of choice that New Vegas boasts. There's a gigantic leap between linear story with key choices and a straight up open-ended main quest that runs in four different directions with even more branching paths inbetween and a very solid number of side quests ont he side.
I think that Bethesda should still put Obsidian on something again with more budget and more time, because that can't hurt, but I just don't think Obsidian's method of making games and their usual focus on writing and branching paths within larger branching paths can work on a legitimate AAA scale. You get to a point where games are so massive that cutting corners because necessary, no matter how much time you got.
IE I'd much rather see Obsidian be allowed to make more, but smaller story-intensive games than a single larger one that would require them to take a lot of shortcuts like they did with New Vegas.
I always thought NV was a good example of a AAA title that successfully blended old design principles with new trends. And people largely want the same thing with an NV2, an injection of old design into an already (")polished(") system.
Obsidian cannot make a Witcher 3, that I'll agree with, but the point is here is that Obsidian is very good at being scrappy, and despite all the bugs, cut content, re-used assets, smaller world, and time constraints, they still managed to make a very good game both on its own and in the context of its franchise. And a lot of people think that they can do it again (hell they've done it twice already if you consider KOTOR2), even Obsidian has expressed that they'd like to return to Fallout again if they were given the chance. And if they want to make a title with an even smaller world than Fallout 4 then hell, all power to them, I'd say most fans of FNV didn't care too much about the dungeon crawling, they just want to see what Obsidian can do with Fallout and the Bethbryo engine.
I do get what you mean though, I would like to see something like Alpha Protocol 2, because despite how short that game I still love its story because of the way choice is structured so that almost every dialogue results in a neat butterfly effect. It would be neat to see another game that is so tightly designed as AP was.

They took shortcuts with NV because they had literally no reasonable time or budget to make it though?
Is there a way to add a mod to level lists? Some of them I have appear to be just craft able at a workbench.

Newsflash: Every studio does this

or its AAA studios fault for starting game development without adequate story writing or predevelopment? most AAA games are all about boosting graphics benchmarks and the story is usually hammered out while theyre making the game
Fallout: New Vegas, among with another favorite of mine, Dragon Age: Origins, was a fantastic game because it proved that the old school roleplaying videogames strongest points (extensive character creation, meaningful and rich interactions with the world and the NPCs and usually a solid, interactive story with great themes behind it) could actually be paired with the esthetic and gameplay canons of the rising "videogames should strive to be interactive movies" design school (which, when it comes to RPGs, basically means over the shoulder 3rd person camera, real time and frantic combat with flashy abilities and all the NPCs, including the protagonist, being dubbed) and produce masterpieces of virtual gaming design.
Sadly, we all know what happened in the following years and what's happening still when it comes to roleplaying videogames
They took shortcuts with NV because they had literally no reasonable time or budget to make it though?
If you give Obsidian five years and figve times the budget they had for New Vegas to make New Vegas again, they wouldn't just come up with whatever they came up with for the current version and keep it at that, because that's not what's expected from games with this large a budget.
This is the same with every other developer. More money and more time means you have to make more content, not necessarily that you have more time to make the same content but better. It's why Obsidian seemingly does so well on such small, constraining budgets - they hit that quality standard no matter how much they're paid, because how much they're paid simply determines the actual quantity of content.
This is even more exacerbated with open world titles, where the larger the scale of the game is, the more costly it becomes to put a proportionally adequate amount of content in it. Giving Obsidian ten times the budget wouldn't make the game ten times bigger, and it wouldn't remove cut content altogether, just introduce more cut content because these kinds of story frameworks where you have to account for a lot of variables are costly to make, to test and to complete.
Put simply, throwing more money at Obsidian wouldn't solve their problems with having to ever so frequently cut content. And every month added to the deadline of a game means the publisher has to increase their spending on a game because you gotta pay those devs if you want them to work. Diminishing Returns applies even to video game production.

Speaking of New Vegas, this came up.
Looks a bit weird and wonky but it sounds like a cool addition.
The TTW Realistic Weather Enhancement got a new version finally.

Are there any perk reset mods for 4?

I think Cheat Terminal also has such a function.
I think I broke my pipboy light at some point. When I turn it on it'll light up my weapon and arms, but nothing else. Could Darker Nights have done this? I think I have a few mods that affect the flashlight strength so it may have gotten set to 0 or something.
So some fucking madman has literally fused deathclaws and cazadors together and made them an enemy in New Vegas

He was so preoccupied with whether or not he could, he didn’t stop to think if he should.
Aw man, I dunno if it's a bug with nexus or if the user took it down, but the page for Nuclear Reloaded is gone.
Workin' on my next mod if anyone care. :saxout:

As much as the picture gives me some shivers, this chimera would be redundant, since both species can and will kill you in one feel swoop (the Cazadors are dicks and merely give you the illusion of survival)
Mix some fire gecko in there
Fuck it, nightstalker too let's get WILD
I don't get the blue tape joke. Can someone elaborate

Okay so my team of Peter Peters and two Preston Garveys finally made it to the last Minutemen quest.
