Remember that time the intro script to Fallout 4 leaked and everyone was like "There's no way that's the actual intro that'd be fucking retarded"
(and then it was)
that was grand :v:
I don't remember that.

Remember when Todd said that the intro would be much longer and what they showed wouldn't be the same as release?

it'd take a ton of effort to track down the posts about it on here but the consensus I distinctly remember was that this was dumb and wrong because they would never not have Ron Perlman do the narration or have a voiced protagonist and also the writing for that was stupid
bethesda sure showed us all how willing they are to mix things up for the sake of variety
:v:
i like the intro :frown:
i like the intro :frown:
To be fair, it's the visuals and music that really do it for me, some fantastic visual direction all throughout and that soundtrack man, sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it and hell I don't actually mind the opening script, it felt very inspiring and sad at the same time, my only problem with it is that I wish it was voiced by Ron Perlman and not the Sole Survivor.

Brian T. Delaney did an ok job and he didn't take away from the intro with his performance, but he's no Ron Perlman.

I should've been more specific, I meant the playable prewar segments.
The intro was really something that I wasn't expecting and that was done really well. That the game couldn't live up to it was a travesty.
If Bethesda were dumb enough to pull a Redguard and make another action game and set it in the Fallout universe during the final months of the war, I'd play the shit out of it.
Something in my load order is shuffling up my Diamond City guards so that they can wear any of the baseball stuff in the game. I think it might be Armorsmith Extended. Is this normal behavior?

Yeah, it's Armorsmith Extended. It's one of the dumb changes that the mod author made. This mod removes the change.
More Holorifle stuff.

The biggest issue I have with fallout 4's setting is that despite the progress, despite all the advanced factions, and the fact that the land is farmable and the water purifiable, nobody's rebuilding at any rate appreciable.
Like, would've been better if we just set all games in the time period of 1-2 and just changed states each time.

people are rebuilding, but there's been repeated setbacks due to the Institute fucking everything up and the fall of the Minutemen (and the East Coast has generally developed slower as it was hit a lot harder due to being more densely populated)
I miss Ron Perlman's narration.
I miss Ron Perlman's narration.
The intro was a fun twist on things I guess, but there should've been ending slides with Perlman, at the very least. Or another quick recap while you're being frozen, with Perlman describing what happens after the bombs fell - the intro didn't actually cover that this time.
I need more live action fallout in my life, especially scenes like that Anchorage power armor scene.

:incredible:
But seriously, the pippad is amazing for people who don't want to have the pipboy showing up on their arm (me)
Should've had an optional quest to find Ron Ghoulman, the news anchor from 200 years ago, and upon completion of it have a trigger that changes the ending to one where he narrates it.

I was firmly in that "it's dumb and wrong" camp, but it didn't really matter to me because I didn't even entertain that silly thing to be real.
Ooooh boy...

No fucking way that's real. Circlejerk all you want about Bethesda being bad at writing but that narration dialogue is abysmal and there's no way it would pass any quality assurance, nor do I expect they'd ever drop Ron Perlman as the introduction narrator.
I mean it's Kotaku
Edited:
Even if it's just shit whipped up for a casting call I really doubt the validity of the article

And you're acting like a talking protagonist is a bad thing.
I don't see any real reason for a voiced protagonist. Unlike Mass Effect where, in the end, you're always playing the same person, in games like Fallout or the Elder Scrolls you're inventing the character and everything about them
lol
All the more reason to suspect Fallout 4 was rushed. It should have come out in 2016, the year of "That'll never happen" happening.
Still really wish I was right about that lol
Heh, I seem to remember saying that I was really worried that the leak sounded like something Bethesda might actually do and getting shouted down - can't remember if it was here or on reddit.
So this ashy taste is vindication, huh? :(
bethesda sucks
bethesda sucks
Sort of, but I think that is highly reductive.
I think the problem is that they've no competition in this space (AAA Sandbox Open World RPGs) so they're getting complacent, realising they can just about crap out anything and people will lap it up and beg for more.
They've realised FO4 was a mistake, but I have to wonder if that was only because it began to tread into competitive territory of an RPG with a voiced, semi-set protagonist such as TW3 and the Mass Effect series and executed it incredibly ineptly compared to those examples.
Give me an RPG with as much world interactivity and quests and FO3/NV and TES4/5 and I'll feel right at home when I play it.
I like games that let me fuck around with the world, games that have bowls of fruit that are just one object break my immersion.
[editline]a[/editline]
Hell, even Morrowind and Deus Ex did a pretty great job with their limited physics.
As long as I can fuck with shit and talk to people the world feels alive enough for me.
Don't know if this was posted yet but damn this is good.
