Fallout Thread V30: The universe where everyone is left handed

If I recall correctly, I fully believed (and dreaded) the kotaku leak until someone said "isn't this just the plot of Rage?" and for some reason that was why I decided it sounded just too shit to be true.
Oh man.
One of the few scenes shown in the leaked script images (The introduction to Preston after clearing out the inside of the Museum) was actually in the E3 press reel, not actually shown at the conference.
I started pointing that out when I found out, but few paid attention.

I believe that's when hope for the games story faded for most people. At least for me, as soon as Todd started talking about how you'd wake up 200 years in the future, I was filled with dread. They actually did it, the madmen.

just curious, why did the "man from 200 years ago" idea worry you?

It confirmed that they were exploring cryogenics, which linked it to the leaks.
I liked the voiced protag. Made me connect more to my char.

Complete opposite effect for me. It railroads me into being one character that I don't particularly like, and it has managed to suck all the humour out of the writing.
Okay, Fallout 3 wasn't a shining example of Fallout's trademark black humour, but it had a few chuckle-worthy moments. Fallout 4 just... doesn't.
Voiced protag had me connect to A character
not mine tho
it was a pretty shit character too

There's a decent amount of lines that let me do my Big Boss RP it's just that the protag voice doesn't fit at all
One thing I hate the most about the dialogue wheel is that they didn't give the protagonist voiced failed speech checks, it's the same line whether you fail or succeed it. Meanwhile in New Vegas your character says hilariously dumb things when you don't meet the speech requirements.

Hearing these voiced by the protagonist would've been priceless.

Looks like we were all "chip" out of luck with fallout 4.
[QUOTE=Craigewan;51810760]Sort of, but I think that is highly reductive.
I think the problem is that they've no competition in this space (AAA Sandbox Open World RPGs) so they're getting complacent, realising they can just about crap out anything and people will lap it up and beg for more.
They've realised FO4 was a mistake, but I have to wonder if that was only because it began to tread into competitive territory of an RPG with a voiced, semi-set protagonist such as TW3 and the Mass Effect series and executed it incredibly ineptly compared to those examples.[/QUOTE]
I agree with the first part, but Have they realised FO4 is a mistake? It sold well, real well. Skyrim sold real well and it too is often reduced from it's forebears.

They did an AMA or something where they acknowledged the whole voiced protagonist thing didn't work as well as they thought it would.
I once heard a very interesting idea. That The Elder Scrolls, from Arena to Skyrim, was never really an RPG. Instead it's an open world action game with incrementing numbers, like an open world Diablo or a first person Torchlight 2 (if anyone's played that, I've got it and not even played it). Really it's just become more prevailant with time. Ever since Arena they've wanted combat like Oblivion or Skyrim, with only technology holding them back. This can also be applied to Fallout 3 and very apparant in 4. This could explain why Fallout 3/4 and New Vegas are like chalk and cheese despite being on the same engine and the same universe. Just like Half-Life 2 and Vampire: the Masquerade Bloodlines, the talent from both Troika and Obsidian turn an action-oriented engine into an RPG.

Like Craigewan side, they've acknowledged it, and we can only hope they've also seen the members of the casual console audience going "yeah I don't know why they changed it, it was much better in Skyrim"

I was hoping for Lady Killer and Black Widow to also get special dialogue checks but that wasn't the case either.
Unless you considered the sweet-talk option with Trashcan Carla to be a special case.
I'm back with another picture for today! Running out of ideas for pictures now. The mod is about done on my end I "just" need all the animations and then I need setup the Sub-graphs for it.

is there any log or debug for scripts in-game?
Fallout 4 is seemingly randomly breaking all the scripts, so my survival needs are stuck, scripted items (like save items) don't do anything, etc. It seems to persist with the save too, which seems odd to me.
any good mods to restore the castle?
So is F4SE ever going to become as advanced as previous script extenders? because so far the modding has been kind of dissapointing in terms of advanced mods.

It is, but the devs are a bit swamped at the moment. IIRC SKSE64 is being given priority, probably because it already has mods waiting to be updated for it.
Is there any mods that show which Quests are Radiant (Never ending like the Preston Settlement missions)?
The ones I've tried don't work.

Those are the ones I tried, the tags don't show up.

You'd think it'd be the opposite, because you can just go play those mods already on regular Skyrim.
But just the voiced protag, or did they acknowledge mistakes in other areas?

I only remember them talking about the voiced protagonist. The continual erosion of stats etc just seems to be the norm for Bethesda, unfortunately.
On a side note - what is the go to settlement expansion mod these days? Homemaker, Snap n Build or something else?

I use homemaker and place in red, does well enough for me
Singing settlers is pretty neat if you want to add some life to the bar or whatever, seems to attract more settlers there at night too.
Settlement building would be great if settlers weren't so damn stupid.
Standing in the most random of places and not utilizing seats or tables

I hate them for it.
Advancements in technology should make stats more interesting, not less relevant.
What does stats have to do with advancements in technology
Stats were always a cheap way of representing growth and arbitrarily limiting or compensating the player's abilities. Take Final Fantasy, you could just make a little attack animation then put up a big set of numbers to show that you're hitting hard, it's a lot harder to actually make the attack look hefty and satisfyingly show the enemy recoiling.

I'd like to bring up Fallout 4's melee system to point out that attacking is still shit regardless of stats. Some raider with a tire-iron can stop your rocket-powered sledgehammer with a heating coil that was swung in power armor just by raising their arm at you to block it.
[editline]a[/editline]
And regardless of your ranged weapon raiders remain pretty much unphased until they're dead. Like, there's a flinch, but there's never any sort of real good attack reaction. A good attack reaction, to me, would be something similar to how Resident Evil 4/5 do it, where shooting an enemy with unprotected legs in the legs will make them drop to their knees, or shooting them in the shoulder makes their shoulder shoot back, or shooting them in the face makes them [I]grab their face in agony and flail around[/I].
If they're going to degrade stats I want an improvement in these areas.
[editline]a[/editline]
As it stands the only reason to shoot anywhere specific is if you want bonus damage.
[editline]a[/editline]
I mean you used to be able to shoot an enemy's weapon and break it back in the days of 3/NV, and that's fucking slick imo.
