Not anymore, they did the final closed beta wave recently, the floodgates have closed. It's for the best really, at least until they get more/better servers.
No, the waves are over so now anyone who pre-orders gets access instantly.
Where can I get myself a SKS? Also why there aren't that much weapons that are used for hunting in this game? Where my double barrels at? Where my Mosins at? Hell, maybe even Frolov's rifle (basically a Mosin that fires shotgun shells)?
You can try to get the two sniper scavs on factory to fall off the roof, that's where I got my SKS. Also, they're planning to add a Mosin in the next content update IIRC.
Edit:
Source for that:

So next weapons update, not necessarily next content update.
So how frustrating is it to get into this game, as a newcomer? The closest games I've played before that're anywhere near simular to this is a tiny bit of DayZ and the STALKER games. Been watching some vids on youtube about the basics, but it seems to be mostly just luck if you've a decent time or not.
Gonna put it out that Reflex sights are useless, they take too long to shoulder, which defeats the entire purpose, for the AKS-74U they dont even look down properly.
I adopted the "eh" philosophy and now I do runs with AKS-74 instead of makarov and my survivability rate went from 40% to 80%. Also vertical grip on AKS does wonders.

Levelled up my trader and made money this way
Possibility A: Buy an AKS74U, go on a raid and survive with better loot
Possibility B: Buy an AKS74U, die, but oh well it's easily replacable and it levels my trader. Rinse and repeat
same thing with Skier and his MBSS backpacks; I stopped doing low risk shotgun/pistol runs and doing that instead filled my inventory quick :ok:
Did a scav run, happened upon multiple other player scavs that didn't shoot on sight

amazing
[sp]tragic plot twist, as soon we went into the woods another hostile scav started shooting at us and we all shot eachother in the confusion and died[/sp]
can you even communicate with other players in this game?

So does it actually pay off to just bring better stuff? That initial sense of loss when you die with it hits pretty hard.
I'm still a little on edge if I should bother getting this, between the retarded price fees, the clear issues ingame and the history of the devs its making me think it might be best to put it off for a while.
But I love the detail put into the weapons, animations and stuff actually looks alright once you get around the whole daft AI and desync issues. I'm rather mixed.

For me it's the definition of "better stuff" that's changed. When I started out with a few pistols and went hatchling on most runs, losing a P226 was a big deal and felt pretty bad, but after you start building an inventory, losing a pistol is nothing, and I'm starting to get to the point that losing a AK74U is not that heartbreaking, since I can either just buy a new one with some of this built up money, go in with a pistol and kill some scavs to take their shit, or just go scav all together.
The thing with taking out the good stuff is also that your chance of dying is much lower, as DaBeaver said. Add to that some PACA armor and sometimes even a helmet and you can destroy most enemies easily.

Honestly, for me the big issues of desync and AI have been MOSTLY fixed. Played like six rounds today and killed a good amount of actual people and never encountered any desync, though your mileage may vary depending on where you live and what your internet speeds are like. The AI also can't see through foliage anymore and I can actually sneak up on them on maps like shoreline and woods now, without issue. The only map that still seems to have issues every once in a while is Factory, since it's very close quarters the AI can still one shot headshot you with a pistol when they are just a meter or two away (which I find to be realistic tbh).
The only thing that's frustrating me right now is that I occasionally get pretty bad FPS drops, especially when new effects and items are being loaded. For example some guy popping around a corner and shooting at me can cause a drop, since it has to load in the firing effect and some weapon models I guess, which is obviously very inconvenient and has gotten me killed a few times, but this might just be an issue with my aging GPU (GTX 770).
Even when the game was plagued with issues in the first week, I never felt like it was a waste of money, even with many frustrating deaths, every minute playing alive was extremely tense, thrilling and thoroughly enjoyable.

Same boat really, though I'm really most reluctant about the stupid payment fees that bump up the price for no reason.
Do the players still do the "FUCK YOU FUCK YOU FUCK YOU" war cries during firefights? All of the recent media I haven't heard it.. Might be my favourite part.

Only AI Scavs but you can manually do it too by pressing Y
So does it actually pay off to just bring better stuff? That initial sense of loss when you die with it hits pretty hard.
Well, Prapor sells AKS74U carbines from the get-go for a measly ∼23k Rubles, as well as mags and ammo to boot - so ultimately losing those items that's easily obtainable doesn't feel bad at all (not to mention AK mags are common when looting). Skier sells MBSS backpacks too for fairly cheap so losing the pack isn't a huge loss either.
even if you lose those items, hey, at least buying from Prapor or Skier only serves to level them so they sell you better shit in the long run. If you somehow fail a bunch of geared up raids consecutively, balance your play with Scav and low risk shotgun/pistol/hatchet raids to get money back and repeat
AKS74Us hit hard and the backpack has great space so maps like Customs, Shoreline, or Woods offers great firefight potential and loot
Now I have 4 rifles, 2 shotguns, 2 PACAs, tons of mags, and no inventory space :v:
can you even communicate with other players in this game?
no, you just spam lean left/right, jumping, and flashlight to express you don't have any hostile intent
players can backstab you or position themselves against you for an easy kill though, so keep a watchful eye
The edge of darkness edition seems a little bit pay to win. Do I miss out on much if I got for the basic version?
edge of darkness doesn't really give us any "perks" right now. we get a bigger private container and stash, but aside from that i'm pretty sure everyone starts with the same gear
the biggest thing is the stash and container. 3x3 is just the right size to carry essentials, namely medpack, a key for a quick getaway and ammo for your primary weapon (you can just drag and drop the ammo in to a magazine after reloading so you only need 2-3 magazines and then just carry a bunch of ammo in your container to top them off)
EOD gets players off to a better start (or at least that's the theory) but once you do a few runs and make your bones, you won't even notice a difference between EOD players and beta consumers
Did a factory hatchet run with a friend, guy opens door and my friend instakills him and some other scav
Said friend gets instagibbed by a fully geared pair of guys
I wait by the doorway, peek out and both of them are looting the dead guys piled on the doorway - I smack them both on the head and steal their armor and tri-zip pack
This is why you always pull security when looting with a friend :v:

Here's all perks for EOD:

Notably, bigger stash and container, more equipment and more cash.

Like the guy you quoted said we only get the 10x60 stash, Tomahawk, Unique ID (gold name/crown in game) and the 3x3 Gamma container now.
Everything else is coming later on all the editions start with 200-300k they are still deciding on what EoD players should get in the beginning vs other editions and what would be fair etc... Also everyone can get the Tomahawk it was supposed to be un lootable but if you are able to kill someone with one and put it in your knife slot you will spawn with one again when you die.

Oh, I thought EOD already got more equipment and money at the beginning, didn't know that was not in yet, thanks for the correction. Kinda misread the post I quoted too, whoops.

I think most of the starting stuff is the same at this point albeit a tri zip backpack idk if the smaller stash starts with one of those as well I could be mistaken but yeah EoD I just had pistols some backpacks and med supplies with some money.

I didn't get a Trip-Zip at the beginning with standard edition. Would take up like half the space of the standard stash, too :v:
God I hate the AI.
Started a Scav run, did okay at first. Got the drop on one, unloaded a pistol into him. Looted a shotgun off him. Another Scav shows up, I put four shots into him with my shotgun. I reload, pop out from behind cover and immediately take a single shotgun blast to the face from 100 yards away and die instantly.
Why don't they make Scavs weaker? It's one thing if that was a player who headshotted me after taking four blasts to the chest from a shotgun, but it always feel like you got cheated when an AI magically headshots you after absorbing your shots like a Terminator.

They're supposed to be hard. Also why are you killing scavs on a scav run anyhow without making sure the coast is clear of other AI scavs?
it seems that if you in USA you can buy gift for EU region for way cheaper price (no VAT, lower fees) than doing so in Europe
combined with the discount for bulk buy of 2,3,4 copies it can be quite nice saving for teams
also i recently read they thinking about 'friends ability to revive knocked off unconscious teammates'
as middle-step before permadeath ...
Also, scavs sometimes follow the players they've seen, so I was once greeted by 7 scavs going "AH NUUUUUU" near one of the shorelines extraction points.
Why are you bringing anything good into Factory?
The AK74SU is cheaper than a pump action shotgun, they're practically priced and built for factory raids.

Have you tested this? Because on the purchase page it says this:
WARNING! Purchases are locked to the specific geographic region the purchase was made from. The game can only be launched if your current region is the same where the purchase was made. The only exception is Europe — purchases made in this region will be available to launch anywhere around the world.
Or does that not count for gifts?
