Friends, today we conducted the final analysis on the topic of start of alpha-testing of Escape from Tarkov and we are ready to officially announce the date.
The most important thing in the early testing - base, which will be incorporated into the game in the near future and will be put into alpha testing. That will be a major and a solid foundation for the game Escape from Tarkov itself.
Pushing out "what is done" and saying that this is an alpha version, in our opinion, does not make sense. During alpha testing it is not only necessary to debug the project and add something new, but it's also there to test-drive and balance the game mechanics.
That is why we have a clear goal of what we want to see and what is needed in the alpha test - a version of game on which we will be able to solve all the problems!
Officially announcing that the start of alpha testing Escape from Tarkov begins on August 4!
During the remaining time before the start of alpha testing we will try to open up a few more features in the form of short videos or streams.

Heh today they sent newsletter to subscribers in english:
We have conducted an ultimate analysis of the much-anticipated alpha testing launch of Escape from Tarkov and are now ready to disclose its date.
The most important point of the early testing is the solid base that will be added to the game in the coming days and will make it to the Alpha - and, ultimately, serve as a steady foundation to Escape from Tarkov.
Opening access to whatever we have now, "as is", in our opinion, does not serve any purpose. Alpha testing should not only polish the project and add content, but thoroughly balance and flesh out the details of game mechanics.
This is why we have formed a perfectly clear vision of what alpha testing should include - the version of the game where we could solve all of these tasks together!
We hereby announce the start of Escape from Tarkov alpha testing for August 4.
Thank you for your continued support!
In the time remaining to the launch of the tests we are going to reveal several new game features in form of videos or streams, so stay tuned!
unfortunately the game won't be like the videos at all. sure, there'll be NPC looters and player looters, but essentially the merc vs merc gameplay is going to be completely ignored by the playerbase. There's downsides to shooting mercs when you play as a merc yourself but it's almost impossible to distinguish mercs from regular bandits so there's no point in trying to differentiate friend from foe when everyone are free game; especially players that are far more equipped than yourself
I want this game to do well but it just seems to me like it's going to be a really well-done survival game with the community-wide problems DayZ has. On top of that the asking price is way too much for the game's potential. Unless they can prove that the game works as advertised it's not really likely that many people are going to fork out as much as what they're charging for it
[editline]21st September 2016[/editline]
also that shotgun brutality hype. about time we have a game that isn't battlefield where the shotguns are absolutely devastating
The thing that has me most concerned is the global inventory. Unless there are restrictions on what you can bring (which there might be, I haven't been following development too closely) you're inevitably going to just get people that stockpile absurd amounts of ammo and just go ham on everybody with no concern for what they'll might lose.
Yeah, there's a campaign style system where you do 14 missions or whatever in enclosed areas of the world map, but from my understanding is that while you're boxed in, the rest of the players that have already done all of the missions aren't. so essentially new people that have to do the campaign can just get killed willy-nilly by geared groups of other mercs. it's essentially like trying to play the divison's story mode, but having the entire game as the dark zone, from my understanding.
hopefully that isn't the case and the campaign stuff are just instances with a few people at a time so you don't run in to big groups of players. i think that's pretty much how it is to begin with: in one of the runs the dev said there's only 4 to 6 mercs on at a time, but the looters are pretty much limitless. fighting looters wouldn't be that big of a deal since their loadouts are entirely randomized, but having to fight other mercs would be a huge pain in the ass if they're top-tier and already geared up to the brim
I also completely forgot to mention that a closed alpha is going on right now too. They kind of didn't really advertise it, but if you own the edge of darkness edition (the one that costs 140 USD) you're guaranteed instant alpha access. Other versions of the game give you a 50 and 25 percent chance to get the alpha too
From what I've seen in the closed forums though it seems like a lot of the testers have had the same speculations we've had and from what's presentable it doesn't play like the speculations at all, so that's good (for now)
I'm pretty stoked for this game. I never really get hyped about anything, but this has always caught my attention since I love DayZ other than the fact it's a hopeless wreck
I'm really on the fence on just saying fuck it and spend the necessary amount on that ultimatel33tdarkness edition. I'm really interested in the title.
The only thing holding me back is the whole loot permadeath thing, which inevitably brings hackers. And i had my fair share with fucking DayZ.
From my understanding the game is kind of misleading in the sense that it isn't truly "open world." It's like STALKER; it's got a few areas that are like open hubs and they're all interconnected by 2 or 3 exits. So if you look at a map of tarkov you can't really go to 70% of what's shown on the map. You're just localized to small areas, something like 2km by 2km if not smaller. Run around, find loot, go to exit, profit. That's pretty much what I'm thinking it is as opposed to a true-blue dayz tier survival game.
If I'm right then that just means the areas are going to be closed off and are only going to allow handfuls of players in at a time per instance, which will probably just turn the game in to a TDM killfest since there's AI looter enemies and players that look pretty much identical to them. I'm guessing looters have shitty equipment that doesn't sell for much and if you show up to an instance in progress there's no reason to make friends if you can find a lone player and kill him and loot his high-end shit.
If anything it just sounds like there's more reason to kill players more than ever, but again I have absolutely no idea

Well if it's indeed what you said i'm fine with the title then. I wasn't looking for a true open-world anyway. A tacticool game with good gunplay is enough for me.
Holey dooley, a new dev report video, 2016 annual report:

(in Russian, with CC ofc)
Prepare for some weapon pr0n :D
some footage of the AI not standing there as if they're disabled would be nice. that entire video pretty much just has NPCs standing there not reacting to player actions as if they're brain dead. as it stands right now, unless it's been patched recently, the AI in the current version are so responsive they can counter-snipe you across the map with zero notice. you'll be walking along and instantly drop dead because a bot spotted you through a tree line on the other end of the map. with a makarov
the AI in their videos always seems to be better than what they are. considering the game is on the unity engine and the current quality of the game has some of the best a unity game has to offer, hopefully they'll surprise everyone and have crysis-level AI. they haven't lied in any of their videos yet so AI improvements would really make this game feel complete since everything in the current version works amazingly
definitely stoked for future updates
Nice dev diary, looks really promising.
This guy is treaming EFT right now!
https://www.twitch.tv/rhinocrunch
isn't he breaking the NDA ?
isn't he breaking the NDA ?
He's got special permission from the devs, there is one watching the stream ATM, answering questions
It'd be a lot more fun to play around in it right now if the multiplayer worked right
[editline]29th December 2016[/editline]
this rhino guy is awful. if you're going to have someone represent your game why not pick someone who actually knows how to play it
FYI Rhinocrunch is a huge dickbag. He got admin on official Rust servers a while back and went on a meltdown banning players he doesn't like. Just about zero other rust streamers like him :v:
he must be doing something right if he can sucker people to donate 100 dollars to him. if it was me i'd rather just put that money towards an actual copy of EFT instead of pay some shithead that doesn't even know how to play the game. i only watched the stream for like half an hour but in that time two people donated 100 dollars to him. clearly i'm in the wrong business

yeah i fucking hate that retard since the whole warz fiasco
The same guy started streaming again
I know he's a dickbag but it's the only way I can get some more gameplay footage so I don't mind watching it for this.
Lirik is streaming the game if you rather watch someone else.
Wish I could play but I don't know why they want you to pay over $100 for Alpha access.
woah, a lot more people are streaming the game ATM
So is the alpha only part of the game? reminds me of the culling like arena shooter.
There's already hacks out for the game lol.. guy was running around with god mode.

Game doesn't have anti-cheat right now so hacking it is like slicing butter.
cheating right now doesn't really matter much since nobody in their right mind tries to play multiplayer anyway. the time to kill in this game is RIDICULOUSLY low. I mean ridiculously low. one shot kills galore just like dayz. there's hardly no time to react since you just drop dead without even knowing where you got shot from plus right now there's zero incentive for team play even though in the final release it's going to be essentially US vs Russian mercenaries and you get penalized if you shoot members of your own faction
fighting bandit AI solo is even terrifying because the game might spawn 7 in the entire map but they'll get the drop on you so hard you'll crap your pants. players is just a huge pain in the ass since the networking is still so awful they just warp around and the gun with the highest rate of fire/highest ammo count is going to win the fight. hopefully in the future bullets won't one hit kill since there's absolutely no reason to bring medical supplies right now unless you're toting the heaviest armor in the game (since obviously there's no reason to wear anything else)
[editline]30th December 2016[/editline]
also the game has the option to play without AI on singleplayer so you can just loot to your heart's content which is what a huge majority of people do until they are equipped well enough to take on bandits or other players. most of the time in MP you're fighting stupidly heavily armored juggernauts and it makes no sense. the tiers between weapons are almost nonexistent right now since you just immediately go from small caliber handguns to AK47s
