The fact that the achievement for it is still there leads me to believe that it's going to be out in eventually. Scott has mentioned still working post-release despite going to PAX very soon, so we may see it when they get back.
That's the thing. It's such a well crafted and cohesive story as it is, going back in later on and adding things that make a big change in how we took everything in initially is a risky move. I'm not too sure about that. Unless it's a new game+ after you've beaten the game for the first time I don't see how they could pull it off. They could have just as easily left achievements in for things they planned on doing but forgot to remove later on after various delays. When have they said they plan to add any additional content post release?
yea. some guy used an editor to trigger the scene and put up a video of it all, tho some stuff is missing since it's not 100% finished maybe they're planning to add this in later, and this is why the achievement can't be unlocked yet? who knows. [editline]7th March 2017[/editline] Actually this probably is getting added in later. The achievement description for Germ's achievement "He's from somewhere" is "And it’s here. And there’s a trampoline!". The trampoline bit wouldn't make sense without playing this. I wonder if these other 'glitched' achievements are just for content that hasn't been added in yet? I mean the Jenny's field one is obviously glitched but maybe the others aren't.
wow an actual reason for Germ to be a character who shows up in art and has a special text color I wonder if Lori M had this amount of interaction planned too.
wow an actual reason for Germ to be a character who shows up in art and has a special text color I wonder if Lori M had this amount of interaction planned too.
At least she had the chance to make a connection in the first place. Seeing that was the first time I felt he had any actual character development beyond just being there [sp]to save us in the end.[/sp] That's why I feel the final act was a bit rushed. It's pretty obvious there was supposed to be more to it, especially now that we're finding cut content that directly relates to the final act and the development of characters that have been around since the kickstarter. Somethings missing.
The part that really messed me up was when [sp]Mae talks about her bouts of derealization, since they describe it in words I've struggled to come up with for almost my whole life. It's also the exact same reason I dropped out of school, and I still blame myself for it almost every day. When the game started wrapping up, I just got more and more emotional, until I was just an absolute mess after the ending. I think it's helping me work through some stuff too; seeing all of my shit laid out so well in front of me is making me really evaluate a lot of what I've been doing lately with my life.[/sp]
It's definitely different for me even though the general situation is similar: [sp]I have depersonalisation issues likely as part of something else, so for me it's sometimes like I'm just walking through this fog and I don't feel _anything_. Most of the time it's much weaker than that but still there. When it gets bad, I just kind of stay up and do things that I guess normally make me feel something (mostly chatting and browsing and posting on here) until I'm too tired to continue. I ended up going on a few really long night walks too, when I was at uni the second time. When I woke up today, it was rainy and grey outside, but somehow everything was a little more vibrant than usual. I felt like a mess though. (Still do even with most of the other stuff fading out a bit again now that I'm tired.) I tried to talk with my parents about it, but they're stressed themselves and it didn't really work out (and I got nervous and things started to feel as if they were fading around me when I tried), so I think I'll hold off on that for a while until things calm down next month. I don't really know what causes it. Maybe it's in part all this stress I've piled up that I'm not dealing with properly, and that the game pretty thoroughly deorganised over the weekend. The depersonalisation probably isn't the primary reason I dropped out, and it doesn't really disturb me as much as making me feel floaty or numb or otherwise not-quite-myself. Maybe it's part of why my life keeps falling apart quite as much as it does though. It feels like it's been a lot worse since around when I left our high-school equivalent, but I can't really tell how much or if it happened before that. It seems to come from a few different things, so maybe I'm just generally somewhat predisposed towards it but usually without it surfacing by itself.[/sp]
I don't know the first thing about how to go about this so I'll just ask and hope someone is generous enough to do this for me: could someone possibly make me an avatar of Bea? It can be anything really, animated or static. I would just appreciate it a lot. :cat:
That's the thing. When have they said they plan to add any additional content post release?
If they didn't want to add it I highly doubt they would leave the achievement in. And if it's their original vision for the story that they wanted to advance, I think they would probably go forward with it. The game is already out, fans have already bought it, I don't think they have anything to lose by adding it beyond the grumbles of a few theorycrafters. And it actually characterizes Germ to the point of relevance whereas he is pretty much just a macguffin "here let me pop in as a Deus ex machina at the last second" without it. This adds so much needed context that I think refusing to add it for fear of what a handful of fans think is wasteful of good writing Also this isn't "additional post release content", this is fixing a bugged and unfinished part of the game that was clearly meant to be added. Fixing bugs like this and the other achievements that are broken doesn't count as DLC imo EDIT: also the code and writing and cutscenes scripting for this are basically already completed, they would just need to hook it up to an ingame trigger and it would be ready to go ingame. The only things that are missing are Scott's art assets and animations. Seems dumb to scrap something so nearly ready to go. If they don't want to be super concrete about the ending then they could just alter some of what Gramma germ says instead. I think it is going to be added. EDIT 2: Apparently over the course of posting in this page I have been teleported from Los Angeles to somewhere in Canada
Hopefully that's the plan though. I'm going to assume it's never happening until they address it themselves.
Yea hopefully it is. Like I want to believe this is gonna get added and those achievements are just for shit that's yet to come, but I still can't get over that clearly bugged Jenny's Field achievement. That content is in the game, they just fucked up the achievement somehow. So idk maybe they just forget to readjust these achievements after cutting shit last minute and are gonna just change them in a patch and keep the game as is. But at the same time they've done two patches now that still haven't fixed them so maybe they're waiting for a reason. I hope they add it not just because more content would be great but also more spotlight for Germ would just make sense seeing as they had him plastered all over the trailers and promotional material.
What's Facepunch's verdict on this game, and how long is it? On the edge of buying it.
It's good, and between 6-12 hours depending on how much time you take doing all the side story content. If you play through it again (you should because it branches) it'll come in closer to 18-20 hours. Personally I've played it 3 times and clocked in 27 hours total and I'm still discovering new content. It's definitely worth the price.
What's Facepunch's verdict on this game, and how long is it? On the edge of buying it.
Well for me at least it's one of the best indie games i've played in a long time. Took me 11 and a half hours to complete my first run but because the game is all about CHOICES and finding stuff a 2nd run is a must, and you'll probably still find new stuff on your third run.
What's Facepunch's verdict on this game, and how long is it? On the edge of buying it.
Took me 6 hours on first playthrough to beat it; no rushing or anything. I thought those were €20 very well spent, I love it. Would probably nominate it for GOTY, but I rarely buy new games these days so what do I know :v:
Those are the answers I was hoping for, definitely going to give it a try. Thanks, guys.
don't forget to try the two free games on their website. they get referenced in the main game but also give an idea of what to expect https://finji.itch.io/lost-constellation https://finji.itch.io/longest-night
What's Facepunch's verdict on this game, and how long is it? On the edge of buying it.
It's already been said but yeah it's great. You'll probably get multiple playthroughs out of it.
Something funny I've noticed. When Mae wakes up each day and stretches over to get one of her shoes you can see she is already wearing one but there is two on the floor.
It's really interesting to see the effect Night in the Woods is having on people. For me as a guy who hasn't experienced major mental health issues it is a story with a novel philosophical approach, but the impact it had on others is amazing to see.
The part that thematically impressed me the most is [sp]how bold the game is about being specific. Bea just outright says she thinks Gregg is bipolar instead of him being just canonically 'quirky' for example, and Mae says or explains she doesn't have a gender preference in the graveyard scene instead of that being left open for the purpose of e.g. audience identification. It also brings up very much real politics, of all things, and who knows what else in the routes I didn't play yet. And that's still not even getting into Mae's trouble(s) in particular.[/sp] I think it's pretty safe to say that this game is going to be experienced quite a bit differently depending on who plays it, even outside of the core story and the associated issues.

Finished the game earlier in the evening. It gave me that same "I'm going to miss all these fake people" feeling that Undertale did, so it's a winner in my book. I love that all these fantastic narrative-driven games have been showing up over the past couple years. A loose end from the ending that I was thinking about: [sp]So, with the cultists trapped in the mine, their only way "out" is down the same hole they've been feeding, right? None of the characters brought it up, but it's a pretty nice comeuppance for them; they were willing to kill the "undesirable" but didn't even seem to ever think of making that sacrifice themselves. I'm sure the entity doesn't care either way. Also, was Bea's dad a cultist? He's not there when it shows everyone at home near the end, while Mae's sending that long philosophical IM, and he kind of fits the profile. I feel like if that was the case there would be a very emotional scene where Bea finds out he didn't come home that night though, so I don't know.[/sp]
That'd be quite the twist Neat
[sp]Also, was Bea's dad a cultist? He's not there when it shows everyone at home near the end, while Mae's sending that long philosophical IM, and he kind of fits the profile. I've got no interest in this game but was there a demo or something out a long time ago? I could have sworn I played this at the EMP museum in Seattle last April so it's odd to see it just coming out or whatever.
I've got no interest in this game but was there a demo or something out a long time ago? And yea it was originally meant to release sometime last Fall but it got delayed like 3 or 4 times after.
[sp]Also, was Bea's dad a cultist? He's not there when it shows everyone at home near the end, while Mae's sending that long philosophical IM, and he kind of fits the profile. Though you also need to talk to him and watch tv with him every time you come home[/sp]
I still think that [SP] Eide is Mae's aunt as during the scene in the elevator their shilouettes look really similar.[/SP]
In the game files theres a folder that contains all of the files for the levels. Does anyone who's been digging through everything happen to know which one is the one for the Snack Falcon?
I still think that [SP] Eide is Mae's aunt as during the scene in the elevator their shilouettes look really similar.[/SP]
[sp]Doesn't explain how Mall Cop was behind Mae when she chased Eide to the hill. Not to mention that Eide has a screwed up ear like Mae and unlike Mall Cop.[/sp]
[sp]Doesn't explain how Mall Cop was behind Mae when she chased Eide to the hill. Not to mention that Eide has a screwed up ear like Mae and unlike Mall Cop.[/sp]
Good point, although [sp] I dunno why they'd decide to show the silhouette then. [/sp]
[sp]Doesn't explain how Mall Cop was behind Mae when she chased Eide to the hill. Not to mention that Eide has a screwed up ear like Mae and unlike Mall Cop.[/sp]
[sp]I don't think Mall Cop is Eide, but if you play the game and pay attention during her scenes, it's very heavily implied that she is part of the cult or at least knows what is going on.[/sp]
So even though my earlier assumption was errant, it's likely that [sp]Aunt Mall Cop ain't gonna be in Rush Hour 3. If she's trapped down there with the rest of them.[/sp]
[Sp]Maybe I missed something obvious here, but if she's tied to the cult in any way I picture it as her being aware that something is going on but not being able to figure out what exactly it is. It's an ongoing case and since we're mentioning Germ being so underdeveloped her character is even more diluted. It's obvious they were going somewhere with her considering she's the very first person you meet, yet nothing substantial happens with her throughout the game beyond her potent introduction.[/sp]
