Aw. I guess I'll never get to see said WIP, I've got the game for the PS4. A little more comfortable with a controller in my hands, I feel. But it's incredibly difficult to perfect Pumpkin Head with a controller. Also, I think some achievements for both versions are broken at the moment, like perfecting a song and perfecting all songs in the game.
Aw. I guess I'll never get to see said WIP, I've got the game for the PS4.
I mean they're all just .MOV files just sitting in the dircetory. I'm sure someone less lazy than me will upload them somewhere or put them on YouTube. It's nothing that amazing tho since it's super WIP, just interesting to see the different direction they had in mind.
So what's all this about the "true ending"? I've put about 14 hours into this game talking to damn near everyone I could find, the two things I know I've missed for sure are talking to mom at church on the very first day she was available there and [sp]the kid that sits on the rooftop. I forgot to talk to him on the very last day as well as the saxophone lady and violin guy now I think about it.[/sp] Is it really that much different versus whatever the standard ending is? [sp]Whatever that is since I'm sure it varies though maybe not all that much, depending on whoever you hang out with the most? I've put a lot into it and talked to as many people as I could find, that's why it took me so long on my first playthrough but I still feel that the ending was rather weak as much as I loved the game. I thoroughly enjoyed it but I feel that the ending I got didn't quite live up to the standards of everything that came before it. Did I do something wrong? It felt like it was building up to something just a little grander in scale, I had to have missed something along the tracks. I don't have a sense of closure is all. I feel like there's a gap, something that's missing in the final act.[/sp]
True ending? .....what :ohno:
True ending? .....what :ohno:
Nevermind what I said. I just saw a guide on steam that mentioned a true ending and a demontower walkthrough in the title which I saw half way through the game before I finished it. I haven't played demontower much since I was so focused on the main story and tried to avoid as many spoilers as I possibly could. I still feel like the ending was a little weak though, all things considered. At the very last second too. I would still recommend this game no doubt. It's stellar but the ending is somewhat of a slap in the face in my opinion and it kinda hurts. It doesn't serve the characters or story nearly as much as it should have, and it's a damn shame because this game has so much to offer. It's absolutely perfect up until the very end, which isn't terrible, but in my opinion it's a farcry from what the game and everyone in it had to offer. It didn't even need another act, only for the epilogue to be built upon just a little bit more is all.
Ah, alright. Scared me a lil there. Speaking of which, Level 8 of Demontower was a real bitch with all them dang [sp]cloaked ninjas[/sp].
If only it wasn't 7:24 in the morning and I could keep playing but alas
One thing Bea taught me is that you should always [sp]hang out with the friend with a car[/sp] I just feel that [sp]she takes you to cooler places compared to Gregg, even if you made her miserable. That riverside party is one heck of a setting.[/sp]
My quickly and sloppily put together thoughts on the game.
I feel like the ending was a little weak, all things considered. At the very last second too. I would still recommend this game no doubt. It's stellar but the ending is somewhat of a slap in the face in my opinion and it kinda hurts. It doesn't serve the characters or story nearly as much as it should have, and it's a damn shame because this game has so much to offer. [sp]Especially the bad guys, the actual murderers at the end and not so much the "bureaucrats" or "bosses". Don't get me wrong, who cares about them they were assholes, what I'm saying is that it could have been built on just a little more. More importantly however, there was a great opportunity to build on how everyone interacts with one another as friends altogether in the face of uncertainty, especially based off of the decisions you've made up to that point and upon realizing what everything meant up until that point in time. That really never came into play until the very end and I think that could have been expanded on just a little more but regardless the plotline felt unresolved either way. It felt rushed. There was definitely more to be discovered on both ends of the spectrum and I feel like there was a lot of wasted potential there.[/sp] It's absolutely perfect up until the very end, which is by no means terrible, but in my opinion it's a farcry from what the game and everyone in it had to offer. It didn't even need another act, only for the epilogue to be built upon just a little bit more is all. It needed to "peak" so to speak. To push us over the edge just a little more to give everything else it had to offer just a little more substance. That what it had to say won't just disappear into obscurity because it suddenly ends, because it's the story arc and that's it. What's the rush? The characters are perfectly written. Their dialogue and backstories are covered very well while lacking just enough information to make them all relatable and most importantly human. You have the option to get to know certain characters and what makes them real if you want to, depending on who you feel the need to talk to on certain days. Plus the soundtrack is incredible, absolute perfection in my opinion and couldn't have done a better job of building the atmosphere and emotions of the world and characters around you. The story is very intriguing and has quite a bit of backlog put into it, it's without a doubt a world worth getting lost in. One that we could easily relate to with characters that are all too human with their own pasts to be discovered, built on, and related to as we go forth together into the unknown that is the future. Wasting time together and trying to make the most of every second of it. But beyond that there's basic economics and looking out for yourself, JOBS, religion, depression, small towns, big government, gaining and losing friends and maybe even finding them again later on down the road. Finding strange new places and coming to terms with where you've been, and where it is you're going. Accepting people for the way they are and the world for what it is, or what we make of it at least. Trying your hardest to look out for those around you, the ones you care about the most even if they're stubborn as hell. All of these things this game does flawlessly. It builds amazing characters both relatable and radically different from eachother. It does a fantastic job building a believable world which like I said, can effortlessly be related to our own and the people we come across in our day to day lives. It offers you many things to come away with. Fair enough lessons that some people may or may very well not be willing to accept. idk. Our world isn't perfect nor is the ending, but I'll tell ya what is. This soundtrack. Buy that shit yo.
tl:dr I see where they were going with this and I can appreciate the ending for what it is, growing up, moving on from your past and enjoying time with your friends while it lasts and what not but I'm not at all satisfied with how easily the crazy passage of events that came before it were so quickly brushed off. The ending just felt rushed, and although it's a complete storyline (as far as I know) I feel like I was left on a weak cliffhanger for no good reason. It just doesn't feel tied up, and not in the sense I think they were going for. And I still thought the ending was pretty good, I just know it could have been 10 times better. The ending felt rushed and lacked closure.
There's definitely a lot of stuff that could be expanded upon or explained if they did a follow up game, but somehow I feel like this is gonna be the sort of project where it's meant to be really ambiguous with stuff and they don't make a sequel for. I still enjoyed it and didn't mind how quickly things wrapped up at the end since I had a feeling that was how it was gonna be. Tho I was nervous at the very end since [sp]I figured we'd do another band practice and holy shit I butchered the last song. I was actually relieved instead when credits abruptly rolled. [/sp]
[sp]yeah, I played with a keyboard and did well on the first two songs but debated on holding my keyboard ala a guitar hero controller for the last song I tried that and it didn't work out well. i'd imagine those segments would be easier with controller but still difficult[/sp]
Game hooked me with the wonderful art style, fun characters, and sound track. [sp]Then the lovecraftian shit turned an already pleasant ride into an onslaught of amazement.[/sp] I need more games like this in my life.
they're working on plans. o boy this is gonna be awhile isn't it aaa
Regarding the ending: [sp]I'm sad that there really isn't a lot of closure regarding the cult stuff. I get that it shouldn't really be the focus of things, but still it feels like for something that suddenly features so prominently, it got brushed over in a "actually it doesn't really matter, life goes on" kind of way.[/sp]
Can't get Die Anywhere Else out of my head, help [editline]24th February 2017[/editline] The soundtrack is so good
I tried shaking up the guy's soda but it didn't explode on him. bad game
nice. wonder if you could use this to totally fill your journal in a playthrough
Just finished it. [sp]Obvious comparison is to Firewatch, and I loved both games. I remember one of the main problems people had with Firewatch was the ending being abrupt, which I can see some people thinking of this game's ending as well. It's odd, since I normally don't want too much left unsaid in movies or games since it's kind of melancholy to me, I just hate when stories I love have to end, but I like both games' endings for some reason. I'm left wondering what'll happen in the future, but I get the feeling everything will be alright.[/sp] And that got really sappy. I kinda loved this game. :dog: [editline]24th February 2017[/editline] [img_thumb]https://i.imgur.com/3c7gaUL.jpg[/img_thumb] And this is my new background

I just found it weird how quickly the [sp]whole cult thing came and went with no real purpose or proper closure other than forced plot progression.[/sp] It felt rushed, like they didn't quite finish that arc and decided to release the game anyways. Maybe it's just me I don't know, I might change my mind on my second playthrough. That's my only complaint about the game.
Now the critical question, do I change my avatar after like 6 years to something from this game.
Game has ONE ending but two variations. (at least me thinks) [sp]Same events happen, but you get different perspective and opinions from who you hung out more (Bea or Gregg). They say vastly different things, because they don't know what the other side thinks[/sp] Maybe this shed a bit more light to those who found the ending... rushed. [sp]The cult "arc/mystery" remains the same[/sp]

Well the game just made me cry :v:

I noticed that the version got bumped up to 98 when I tried it this afternoon. [editline]24th February 2017[/editline] I want to get back to [sp]the dance party with Bea[/sp] for avatar purposes but I also just finished hanging out exclusively with her and wanted to give Gregg a go.
