• Turok Dinosaur Hunter and Turok 2: Seeds of Evil - Nightdive Studios' remasters

The common opinion is that Turok 2 is superior, but I actually disagree. Turok 1 was incredibly fast, and circle strafing felt very fitting for a console shooter. Turok 2 always felt like a slog. Finding the last collectible/objective you need is still infuriating, and the levels are long as hell. Always had to play the game with cheats as a kid, and replaying the whole game recently was no fun. That being said, I fucking love the novelty. The weapons felt great, the numerous number of ways to blow up enemies was great, and even the enemy and boss varieties were stellar. However, where Turok 1 was a circle strafing ballet of dodging various projectile types, Turok 2 feels much more like piloting a tank. That's why I'm excited for this port. Turok 2 had waaaay more vertical arenas which blended horribly with Turoks control scheme. Mouse controls and a consistent framerate will make this game far more enjoyable. I've always been skeptical of remasters and re-releases, but Night Dive has proven that they are the guys for the job.
I assume the game will use the soundtrack from the original PC release. I kind of prefer the N64's score, even if it has a quality loss at times, so I hope somebody with the know how can make a mod for that.
its using 64 version
Honestly say what you will about how tedious the objectives are in turok 2 but the core gameplay is fun and the guns for the time were really satisfying. The fact they are adding even more weapons into the arsenal should be interesting, i hope they maintain the same level of creativity.
its using 64 version
Honestly I wouldn't mind an option for it, but mods will replace it one way or another. People already made mods for Turok 1 that put the original, unmodified maps back in for the whole campaign. I got Turok 2 and Quake 2 pre-installed when I got my first PC in 1999. Those were first 3D games I ever played, before that the most advanced game I played was Super Mario Bros (the 1985 one !). There was this [sp]explosive barrel in the first area in Turok 2 which you need to blow up to break a wall and get out[/sp]. I got stuck there until my cousin came for a visit 3 months later and I showed her my PC and she accidentally hit it. A whole adventure was waiting for me behind that barrel. The levels were a maze. You had to collect those stones to open worlds, then there were those feathers that enable special abilities that you need to enter some areas. It was all too much for me. I didn't finish the game until around 2 years later when I got internet and found the cheats. Oblivionisoutthere !
It's legit heartwarming to know that there's people here that have played and remember Seeds of Evil. None of my friends have ever played it and there's no real good playthroughs of it on YouTube so I always imagined it as a sleeper that is criminally underexposed.

Beware Oblivion Is At Hand
huh I actually didn't realize there was a difference between the PC soundtrack and the N64 soundtrack till people mentioned it on the steam hub N64 PC Not sure which i prefer, I think the PC one. But whatever I'm sure there's gonna be a mod released real fast once workshop support gets added to switch the soundtrack.
Hope this is as modable as the other Turok they did. I am very excited.
Hope this is as modable as the other Turok they did. I am very excited.
It's being ported to the same Kex engine as Turok 1, so I can't imagine it won't also get it's own SDK tools eventually. Can't fucking wait for that shit.
I'll be honest, as neat as a patched and improved Turok 3 would be, it was still a pretty boring game so I don't know if i'd want a remaster of that too.
i thought there was something weird looking about the blind one boss in the video from the video [t]http://i.imgur.com/SMkRjhg.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/QBvcl6o.jpg[/t] from the n64 [t]http://i.imgur.com/qYgnIT0.png[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/gmZ2A0D.jpg[/t] why'd they put an enormous fuck ugly second pupil model over it lol. I'm guessing that's placeholder or something since this video is apparently really old, but it looks like a separate model so idk why its even there to begin with.

We have no idea why fottage from such an old build was used. D:

Trailers, like everything else shown, have to go through a very long approval process. This unfortunatly means that it needed to be made well in advance before it could be revealed, and updating the trailer would put it through the same process. With a game like Turok2, I'm actually surprised that's the only issue the showed up.
awesome, there's one mystery solved at least
I played the shit out of this game when I was little...probably not a great game for kids :v: but it was awesome as hell. Definitely getting it again.
There was something incredibly palpable about the universe they created in the second game. Something about it is very ominous and interesting, and the other games have never really recaptured it (except some parts of Shadow of Oblivion).
do turok evolution next
I guess i'll just move this thread to the games forum and it can be for discussing the game. 10 more days to go yeaaa also i thought I noticed something changed on the steam store page. found a mirror of the original on some sketchy CD Key website and it did [t]http://i.imgur.com/UrwvPiT.png[/t] yeaaaa that probably wasn't the best idea to call all the content in your port "NEW" when you're just talking about the default content of a 20 year old game. maybe now people will stop claiming they're adding unused content like all those cut monsters back into the game lol.
should have been obvious though
they probably were going with "new" in the context of turok 1
I immediately took it as being in the context of being a sequel to Turok 1 just because I recognized every "new" map they were demonstrating but in the context of a remaster that's really poor wording.
old news for a lot of people but since this is coming out soon I've been looking up stuff about cut content [t]http://i.imgur.com/J2MYkZj.png[/t] man they really cut a lot of stuff from the game lol. I knew about all the cut enemies but not all the bosses. Apparently they aimed to have double the bosses of turok 1 but ended up with the exact same amount anyways OOPS. I knew there was something up with that Triceratops guy model in MP since it seemed so unique and had that goofy voice. Apparently he was meant to be a boss but ended up just being a MP model. Also, that Level 7 listed there was gonna be a zombie-themed level that ended up just getting cut and combined into the river of souls level.
Modding this game is gonna be juicy as fuck, just saying.
clearly one should port quake 1 maps into turok 2 and blow up alien dinosauroids rather messily in eldritch environments [editline]6th March 2017[/editline] What was with gore on the N64, anyway? You had the Turok games, that Armasomething game about killing bugs rather messily while you run around in powered armor, Body Harvest, and even Jet Force Gemini which let you also blow up bugs but also blow up bear kids into little pieces and then collect their goddamn heads as tokens.
n Jet Force Gemini which let you also blow up bugs but also blow up bear kids into little pieces and then collect their goddamn heads as tokens.
I knew Turok had a faint taste of something, this was it. I'd love a Night Dive remaster/PC port of this game.
Since this game is most likely gonna be modable, do you think people are gonna try to include cut enemies and content back into the game?
I knew Turok had a faint taste of something, this was it. I'd love a Night Dive remaster/PC port of this game.
That's a Rareware game, but it's part of the Rare Replay on Xbox One. Not a bad collection, even though there's probably only a small portion of the games most people would play.
