Every Friday my school has a lan after school, and one day my friend brought UT2004 and I kicked everyone's ass
Last time I went on UT2004, it was dwindling in servers. It's a sad sight, especially because all of the servers I used to go on, are gone. :smith:
But holy shit, for it's age UT99 is surprisingly active.

Sounds like a fun school
Almost finished revamping one of my old MH maps :v:

First PC game I played :D
Fuck yeah, UT99!
I've made a point of always having it installed since I first got it.
As OP doesn't have info on Jailbreak, I'll fill you guys in there:
Jailbreak is a round based Team Deathmatch game. When a player is killed, they are put into the opposing teams' jail. Your teammates can rescue you from jail by finding the release button in the opposing teams' base. A team scores by capturing all players of the opposing team in their jail at once. Games are usually run to x amount of caps.
Some maps also have secret passages out of jail, which usually require teamwork to access. Also, most maps have an "Arena", where jailed players from opposing teams can fight for freedom. Players are picked randomly for the Arena.
It is a very polished gamemode, and the bots do know how to play it too, so give it a shot.
my god this game is fucking crazy
It's literally the fastest-paced FPS I've ever played; I don't even see how people manage to hit each other or use the shock rifle combo so efficiently.

Can you provide a link to any good tutorials? I'm doing pretty bad at the unreal editor.
Can you provide a link to any good tutorials? I'm doing pretty bad at the unreal editor.
Well, I've been using the editor for 5 or 6 years so it's natural to me, but when I first started I used these tutorials:
http://www.ezkeel.com/Design/Build2/2Tutorials.htm
It starts off hard but when you get used to it you can do practically everything with the editor.

It's brilliant. :buddy:
Ezkeel.. Didn't he make that zombie map for UT99 and Unreal?
And thanks for the link.
What was the reason the Ripper was removed from UT2k4 and UT3 again?
Oh man that thing was so much fun to spam in small rooms.
I made a few maps for this game myself. They were nothing outstanding by any means, but it was fun. One of them was an old-western type town with like 7-8 buildings, and it was possible to go on the rooftops and shit. Wish I had a good screenshot of it
Another one was a giant toilet bowl with acidic green water inside, and if you pushed the flusher, the seat would lower and crush everyone who wasn't either at the very edge of the rim or up on the back part. Also there was a secret elevator leading to the sink, and inside the sink's drain was the redeemer, but you had to swim down and get it quickly or else the drain would plug back up and eventually drown you.
I gotta find my old disks. This game is awesome.

this one rung some bells, I may have played it! :v:
Oh god, I never owned this game but there was a summer camp program near where I live that would always offer a competitive video gaming camp (I shit you not) and we always played this. Those were some of the best summers of my life. The entire camp was basically a big LAN party, and we'd play unreal tournament and HL2 deathmatch (on maps we made in hammer). What's really interesting about this game is that it allows those who are particularly skillful to pretty much dominate without question (much like many other older FPS games). I'll never forget that one game where everyone went up against me on CTF-Face and I played for an entire team and beat all of them. This game had the most badass sniper rifles of any game ever, and headshot hitboxes were so big. I'd basically get the flag, see an enemy running back to his base with my flag, snipe his head off, return my flag, and score. Then I'd head to the top of my base and shoot a teleporter disc all the way to their base (because we played low gravity) and get their flag again and repeat the process.

loved this game so much
Playing Assault maps endlessly is one of my fondest early PC gaming memories. Also the Infiltration realism mod for this was sick, its just too bad it eventually got killed by its own community. Every single server would run 90% custom maps, 3rd party anti cheat you'd have to download before hand, a gigabyte worth of mutators, extra skins, models, weapons. The community was just too hardcore for its own good. It was the biggest gaming hassle I've ever been through trying to keep up to date with all the bullshit you needed to play that game.
ut2k4 =/= utgoty
Fuck YEAH! I love this game to death.
The enforcers were the fucking SHIT. If I got two of them I was an unstoppable killing machine, combined with the minigun, you might as well give up if you were the opposing team. I was SO fucking pissed when that shitty piece of fuck Assault Rifle came in and replaced the enforcers, and when UT3 came around the only reason. The ONLY reason I bought the game was to have the enforcers back. But they weren't the same. So heartbreaking when I booted up a quick round of Deathmatch, and the first thing I did was pull out the enforcers. Disappointment came swiftly as I was looking at something that looked like Apple would make, then I pulled the trigger. These aren't enforcers.

I want my fucking enforcers back, DAMN YOU. They're supposed to be big ol' hunky .50 cal pistols not dinky little .22 pieces of fucking shit.
UT99>The rest of them by a long shot
I'd be prepared to make a facepunch-based CTF map if anyone would give me ideas.

make it the forum
so you could fight in areas that look like certain forums sections
like one room could be the furry forum and it would be totally gross and hilarious, then there would be like a general discussion room, then an oify room, etc.
terrible idea

The UT2k4 enforcer was shit, but the UT3 ones weren't so bad. I wish they would actually put ammo around for them because I would use them till they ran out.
I'm wondering, how many of you have played Tactical Ops: Assault On Terror? It's like UT99's version of Counterstrike, except 100 times better and got overshadowed by that overrated piece of shit.

[editline]20th February 2011[/editline]
so basically 99% of UT maps
