So for a while, I had this idea for a game mechanic. It might be a terrible idea or whatever, but I may as well find out what you guys think about it so that I'll know for sure whether it's worth posting a thread about it on the UT forum or not (Even then, it probably still wouldn't be worth posting a whole thread about it because it's only an idea). Basically, this idea I have is an Upgrade powerup that would temporarily upgrade whatever weapon you're holding, lasting either for an interval of time like the Damage Amplifier does or until you got killed. So if it was an Enforcer you were holding while getting the upgrade powerup, it would transform into a sawn-off quadshot, giving you a wider range and more spread out bullets. If it was a Shock Rifle you were holding while getting the upgrade powerup, it would transform into an Instagib Rifle or something else if the devs decided to be more creative with that. If it was a Bio Rifle you were holding, it would probably transform into a lava gun with flamey magma that catches people on fire or some shit like that. Probably unbalanced as hell, but it's just something I had at the top of my head. And etc. Not sure how it would work out with other weapons, but some people could be pretty creative with them. Any thoughts on this?

Unreal is my favorite singleplayer but I even know that the A.I dodges too much resulting you to use hitscan weapons all the time, the level design in some maps is absolutely STUPID (bluff eversmoking comes to mind) And overall the big lack of enemy presence, game feels like you're just fighting 1 or 2 enemies at the time which isn't much satisfying when they're bulletsponges that dodge a lot.
I have to disagree about the enemies, that's one of the things I like about it. The way you have to take care of the Skaarj fits in perfectly with the plot and how some of the translator messages portray how dangerous they are, and it sets the game apart heavily from other games of the time in gameplay (and also encourages situation weapon usage more) All in all I think that's more a personal preference thing. If you aren't a fan of bullet sponge or dodgy enemies in any form then you probably won't be a big fan of Unreal (tbh most of the enemies are only bullet sponges on the hardest difficulty, its just the dodging that makes them hard) For me, Unreal is a highly immersive game and part of that for me is how intimidating the enemies are. I didn't really like RtNP as much because of the hammy voice acting and also because even on the hardest difficulties the Combat Assault Rifle makes any type of enemy pretty much piss easy. I liked Unreal 2 more but I had the same issue with the skaarj - once again plot-wise they are portrayed as these intimidating, horror-movie esque race of aliens and yet in the game they give you so much firepower in the first mission - all of their "good" ai is undone by the fact that the alt fire on the CAR can basically murder even the heavier guys in 2 hits. I guess what I'm trying to say is I like difficult to kill enemies when it is in good context (like bloodsuckers from STALKER, aliens in AvP 99, etc.) and I think Unreal 1 does a decent job of setting up good context for them to be the way that they are.
I am a big fan of Unreal though, it's just some of the gameplay portion and some map designs that I dislike about the game is all. Everything else is top quality. I would have found unreal 2 to be good if it weren't for that disastrously slow movement speed. The skaarj in Unreal 2 were awesome but they only appeared in 2 chapters overall (like 1 in the last level as a prisoner)
Oh yeah I agree about some of the levels, I was really just disagreeing somewhat about the way enemies are handled.

I get where it's going with the whole overlapping "UT" but to me it just comes across as some guy took the logo and tried to cut pieces of the U out with photoshop Also looks like "Uournament"

I really hope they'll still use a style similar to these. I always found the metal look UT99 had really cool looking and this format seems to work well. Also I would avoid replacing the iconic UT logo with one of the pickup icons, it just completely ruins it. Did someone ever tought about improving or remaking the old PortalGuns for UT3/2k4? Theres a video on vimeo which shows a cool portalgun for UDK, it would be nice to have a remake of them.

But I'm not quite sure, because its been a while since I've played 3.[/QUOTE] It wasn't quite as lightning fast as 2004 and there were some odd quirks here and there, but ultimately UT3 was still Unreal Tournament, I think it was mostly the game feel and the even-grittier-than-99 GoW style like you mentioned that turned people off. Which is a shame, because having a modding community like 99 and 2k4 did would've really been great for the game, but instead most people either mapped or focused on the UDK when that released.

Even though the stats were the same, it just didn't have the same punch the UT99 & 2k3/4 cannon had.
Good god if that's the gun design consider me in this forever. I LOVE designs like that. Especially for my favorite UT gun aside from the Sniper Rifle.
Not sure if anyone else is getting this bug in UT99, but for some reason, at least half of the time I start a CTF match, I first spawn in the opposing team's base rather than in my own base. What's up with this?

Has anyone ever gotten that awesome feeling of victory in a Last Man Standing Team match when you're the last player alive on your team and against the other team who have most of their guys, but you still manage to win the match despite the odds stacked against you? Probably not since y'all probably hadn't downloaded that specific gametype since you never thought to, but yeah, I got that feeling a couple times. It was great.
