I love using the U1 player models in UT because they're a lot more destructable than the UT99 models are. A single shock rifle blast or, believe it or not, a Sniper Rifle headshot, can make the upper half of the male models explode, while you can rip an arm off of the female models, which tends to happen the most when you give them some flak chunks. Skaarj Troopers have a funny headshot animation as well. Also, I've found that the male's spinning death animation really works well when you blow them away with a Flak Cannon shot at near point-range.
So Gooba just posted some concepts for a map called CTF-Outside. [t]http://i.imgur.com/62RlVhz.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/InJeVPU.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/V1haPtZ.jpg[/t]
http://www.unrealtournament.com/blog/chris-perna-reveals-new-ut-necris-concept/ Chris Perna did some Necris concepts and a sculpture and showed them on the recent stream. I played a CTF match in CTF-Football that had Loque, Tamerlane, and Arachne on the opposing team...and my team won. I was originally going to restart when I saw that all three of them were on the enemy team, but I said "eh, fuck it" and went for it. Loque completely dominated the mid with his l33t sniping skills most of the match. However, I managed to counter-snipe him with the Shock Rifle and some good angling on my end a few times, which dissuaded him from sniping. That probably saved my team's ass. At around the two minute mark, one of the bots managed to get out of the enemy base without being gibbed by rockets and capped the flag thanks to some good support. Right after, another bot casually walked into the Red base, grabbed the flag, and walked out with minimal support, breaking a tie and winning the match for my team.
Recent UT4 pre-alpha build added a really cool castle-themed map set at night with an awesome air cannon hazard in the middle of the map where the Udamage spawns that periodically launches whoevers on it in the air and kills them: [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/kRulRPP.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/cREEfEd.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/gteZJ0y.png[/thumb] [thumb]http://i.imgur.com/n8HGDIF.png[/thumb] Also the flak canon has new effects when firing to make the seperate pieces of flak and stuff look more like they did in UT99, which is cool. They also added a client side third person console command. Great update so far!
I swear to god, that brushwork looks amazing.
i got UT2004 a few weeks ago and i've been wondering, is UT3 any good?
i got UT2004 a few weeks ago and i've been wondering, is UT3 any good?
It's really fun, imo. Not perfect, but it's really enjoyable.
i got UT2004 a few weeks ago and i've been wondering, is UT3 any good?
the Single Player Campaign is bad and theres no tournament ladder, also the artstyle is way too similar to gears of war to feel like a real UT game. However the gameplay is alright for a UT game and there are alot of decent custom maps out there. Id say its worth a purchase when its on sale for less than $10 or so. Would recommend UT99/2k4 over it any day, though.
I made an office entrance in UED2 a while back and decided to work on it a little more today. [t]http://i.imgur.com/wU4hKuZ.jpg[/t] [editline]14th December 2014[/editline] I was thinking about making a "Mapping Pimpage" thread in the UT Game General Discussion on that UT4 forum. You guys think it's worth a shot?
Go for it. Also you should add a ton of destructibility to that room (chipping away at pillars and the like, make the lights flicker when shot, etc. I saw a remake of hollywood holocaust for ut99 use destructible bits of walls for certain parts and it made me think how awesome it would be to have UT99 gameplay mixed with some light destruction like that.
Next Unreal Tournament stream is the last one of the year, and its lookin' pretty big:
What's the Hub you ask? The Hub is Unreal Tournament's new lobby system that Joe will unveil this Wednesday during the live stream! After the hub is introduced, we'll be taking your questions about it from the Twitch chat. We'll also be taking a look at another community map and we'll check into progress on the new HUD, (not to be confused with the Hub!) and we'll also announce the winners from the "Your favorite Unreal Tournament memories" contest. If you haven't entered yet, go enter now! We'll be choosing the winners Wednesday morning. The live streams are at http://twitch.tv/unrealtournament every Wednesday at 2:00 PM EST. We'll be off for TWO WEEKS for the holiday, so be sure to join us this Wednesday for our last stream this year. As always, the archives will be available after the live stream on Youtube and iTunes. Be sure to like and follow our social pages for all the latest news, media and official information!
https://forums.unrealtournament.com/showthread.php?14516-Join-us-for-the-live-stream-this-Wednesday!-%28Hub-discussion%29 And before you ask, don't worry, this doesn't mean something like matchmaking is going to be in the game if you don't like that. Based from what I've heard of it so far in past streams, it actually sounds pretty great.
HOLY SHIT BIG POST AHEAD!!!: 12/17/2014 Stream Rundown:
- Showed off the community map CTF-Generator, with commentary from the devs on what improvements could be made to the level. - Enforcer prototype mesh is in the game, alongside the shock rifle which was added a week or two ago. - Showed off changes to the map DM-Cannon, mostly showing changes to the levels layout and weapon spawns. - Showed off the vastly changed mid field on CTF-Dam, along with a few slight changes to other areas in the level. - Showed off a WIP of the new HUD for the game, includes a vertical weapon bar. -- Paperdoll, Health, and Armor are displayed on the bottom middle of the screen. -- Important game information related things like scoring is located in the top middle of the screen. -- The weapon bar is now vertical and is stationed to the right of the screen. -- The HUD is planned to be moddable so that people can make new HUDs if they wish to do so. - Showed off the new "Hub" lobby system that will replace the ordinary way people browse servers. -- Hubs are places where clans and communities can gather and start games within them. -- The games run on servers that are spooled off of the hub, and are listed inside of hubs. -- The hubs themselves outside of the game currently contain a chatroom where players can chat and lists the games that are currently going on above of the chat. -- Chat can go back from the match and into the lobby, and vice versa. -- The people in the hub get updated to any scores that anyone gets inside of games that are going on inside of the hub. -- Anyone can create matches inside of hubs, and anyone can spectate them if they wish. -- If a hub is providing a map you want to start a match in, but dont already have, the UT Marketplace will go get the map for you if you need it. -- Matches can still be joined in progress, from the lobby. -- They are thinking of some form of Twitch integration that will lead to easier streaming of the game, from the lobby. -- Matches will be tracked by the hub, and it will generate hub-side statistics based upon what is tracked. -- They want hubs to be able to have their own MOTD's, generated by HTML. -- There may be some mobile functionality with hubs, nothing exclusive but likely the ability to chat and hang out with people in a hub from a tablet or phone. -- There may be a "picture and a picture" spectating system. -- There will be support for non latin characters in the hub in the future, No ASCII stuff is planned to be supported. -- Hubs are still WIP, things will change and they even showed off a whiteboard overview of what they want to have in the end. -- They plan on still supporting separate servers, but they really want to focus on Hubs. -- Eventually they want to support rentable servers that people can create hubs from. -- They want to support 24/7 servers that run inside of hubs. -- They will likely be disabling hyperlinking in hub chats over time. -- Users will be able to rate hubs and servers over time. -- The hub is supposed to create a "social ecosphere" that anyone can put up if they want to host it. (Sidney tried to find the "pretentious analogy" in the phrase) -- There is a thread on the forums about hubs now. - They want to integrate the main menu with the internet in a similar way to how webpages work, but Epic is, apparently, lacking in Web Developers and the UT team is asking for the community to help with this. They also emphasize that they REALLY want community generated content to be a big thing in the new UT. -- They want the main menu to feel very much like a live service, with things updating in the menu when you want them to, and that the menu will also be customizable by the community, not just the in-game UI. -- They want things to work out well enough so that its quick and easy to get into games. - A demo recording system is in the works, its VERY rough around the edges at the moment, however. -- They plan on demos being saved "hub-side" over time, but there will VERY likely be a way to download demos onto your computer. -- The dev team wants it so that you can easily get neat footage for things like frag videos with the system. - Onslaught will eventually be implemented into the game from Epic. - The UT dev team is all excited and happy to be working on the new UT with the community, they wish the community a happy holidays. Non-stream related updates: - New reward announcer voice lines are being discussed. The thread for it is here. - And finally, Xanta Claus. [t]http://fc08.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2014/351/c/3/xanta1920_by_crotale-d8a65rb.jpg[/t]
Overall it was a pretty neat stream, lots of awesome stuff to look forward to that is on the way for the game, Id say that this year has been a pretty great year for UT.
Has anyone here played the Playstation 2 version of Unreal Tournament '99? I found a couple copies a few weeks ago and I absolutely love them! Great fun split screen and plays exactly like the PC. Even has Mouse/Keyboard support but I don't know if that's for any mouse/keyboard or a specific brand. The exclusive maps are interesting as well. I understand there is also a Dreamcast version with its own exclusive maps but haven't found a copy of that yet.

Keyboard confirmed working. However mouse does not. At least not the mouse I have which is a Steal Series mouse, perhaps too complex for the PS2. If I had a more basic USB mouse I'd try it as well but I don't. Still pretty cool that it's an option.
I could probably check out pictures of that for reference. The more I have, the more ideas I could get for this.
One of my favorite maps from PD, it was influenced by The Matrix's lobby shootout scene.
I'm about to post that Mapping Pimpage thread on the UT4 forum. Hopefully, the thread won't end up dying with very few posts on it.
There still hasn't been anybody posting in the thread. I suppose it would have been smarter to have initially posted it in the level design section since it would likely get more attention if that were the case. Hardly anyone posts in the non-dev General Discussion section.
I just came across this map that was made for UT3. It's a pretty interesting concept.
Does anyone got a copy of this bike or know where I can find a mirror? I used to have this but it's gone now.
So currently there is a bit of a debate going on in the Unreal Tournament official IRC (here) involving both prominent members of the community and developers about whether or not UT4 should have a (community involved) skin store included in it (ala TF2), with prices for skins ranging from 10 cents to $300, and I want to ask everyone here whether or not they think that would be a good idea or not. Personally, I dont think its a good idea at all (although 10 cents to $5 when it comes to prices would be fine in my book) and I feel it would push ALOT of people away from the game, however I'm looking for other people's opinions on the matter. EDIT: Just wanted to emphasize just in case anyone's confused by this post that this doesn't mean that a skin store with overpriced skins is 100% confirmed, but a rather heated discussion about it happened on the IRC and I do want to know what people here think about it considering developers got involved in the discussion.

I think the only way to justify that is if it were a skin pack that contained a lot of (approximately somewhere in the hundreds) skins, each of them made with a ton of love and effort. 10 cents to 5 dollars sounds pretty reasonable, though.
Why should I pay for skins when every single game up till now has allowed for free skins? I get the new UT is going to be a F2P title, and that's nice and all, but if you're going to make money off micro-transactions you can find it somewhere else, like server hosting or something. Not something that's been free this entire time.
i dont think UT community is the kind of community that pay for custom content, all content for all unreal games was made free by the modders.
I don't want to have to pay to get "Classic UT99 skinpack" Although having official packs like that would let other players see it without needing to download, which is kind of nice. But still. UT doesn't feel like a game you should be shelling out for skins.
Someone on the forum did a skyscraper map for CTF called CTF-HighRise. [t]http://evilmrfrank.com/images/CTF-HighRiseWIP1.jpg[/t] [t]http://evilmrfrank.com/images/CTF-HighRiseWIP2.jpg[/t] [t]http://evilmrfrank.com/images/CTF-HighRiseWIP3.jpg[/t]
Just wanted to let everyone here know that I've been working on some UT4 maps myself (albeit limited by an old version of UE4 atm). They arent in an extremely polished state right now (mostly just greyboxing really) but they are being worked on and will likely be developed into something better, eventually.
