I always feel like no matter the UT game, when somebody uses Unreal 1's skyboxes as inspiration for the visuals the maps turn out fucking gorgeous, this remake of Araja even has animated scrolling shader clouds or something that make it look like they are forming and dissipating and shit.
Really, there's not much you can go wrong with on Unreal 1 besides maybe some of the more confusing and maze-like levels later on. It did the immersive world well, the visuals were great for its time and it still has quite large environments and impressive AI. The fact that some people are trying to remake it in UE4 is great, albeit it'll be one hell of a project to say the least considering the quality of the original.

Is anyone else getting a TF2 vibe from this map?
I don't know about you guys, but I really dont like the really bright vibrant look. Maybe because it just hasn't been even close to being polished up yet.

I've got the same problem. I'm playing this game on a laptop, so I suppose that should be expected, and actually, I should be glad that I'm getting 20 fps rather than 1 fps. Occasionally, the game does freeze up for a couple seconds.

Looks good on its own, but I'm kinda worried that most of the industrial maps are going to look like Outpost with all those white walls and such rather than try something different.
I think it's mostly that the current mappers can't make their own assets yet.

The map is using outpost assets which is the only available assets in UT4 at the moment. When new assets get released expect more and different themes
been playing this for a bit, its too bad it doesnt have more players. often feels like im either curbstomping newbies or getting stomped by pros. hard to find people your own skill level with such a low pop.

I should have mentioned that Gooba was working on a cool NeoCity map called CTF-Oni.
Currently, he's using Outpost meshes, but he says that it's just a quick mesh pass and isn't final. Even the skyscrapers were apparently Outpost meshes put together, apparently.

Nighttime city maps in UT99 were my jam, I was so disappointed that 2k4 had nothing like them, not even any custom maps - i found like maybe 3, the rest were just ut99 remakes/ports.

There was at least one custom that I remember, and that is the extraordinarily detailed Blade Runner map DM-2019-XS.

You know, I'm somewhat worried that all the characters in this game are going to be bald by default due to the use of hats and such. I suppose it's nice that they're going to have a little customization, but so far it seems like they're going to rely heavily on hats and make all the character's heads like blank canvases without much setting them apart from each other characteristically speaking.
Then again, this is just a rather early alpha, so customization would likely get better or something else with change for the better, but as of right now it doesn't feel all that great.
I really doubt they'll be shitting out generic characters just to make cosmetics more appealing, especially when characters from the previous games had lores/bios and aesthetics which easily set them apart from each other.
If it somehow does happen I'm sure cosmetics will be separated from characters and synchronized via a master server while people will be able to create custom models to put those cosmetics on.

they can code it so if there's a hat, it either replaces your default hair with hat-hair, or removes it entirely if nothing will be seen of it
