So today I tried Unreal Tournament and holy shit. Old is new! Everything is the same as in '99.

Everything is the same as in '99.[/QUOTE] Everything isnt the same as in '99, theres quite a few new things in this game that werent in 99, like wall-dodging, wall sliding, and more. Either way i kind of prefer things not being exactly the same anyway, though being similar (which it is) is good.
Honestly I'm having trouble going back to playing 2k4 after playing UT4 Single tap walldodge is way better than double tap, and i love the slide
Wait - there's a wall dodge? This explains why my character would occasionally fly across the room.
Also UT99 is a fair bit slower and weighter compared to 2k4 and, well, 4. Even with the game speed and air control cranked up.

But I am really liking UT4 at the moment, even though it's only a pre-alpha, honestly I can't wait to see what the released game will bring. I am also hoping they'll make some amazingly architectured ancient-egyptian themed maps, loved those egyptian themed maps in 2k4. on a side note, anyone knows if they're planning to bring back the assault game mode?

good god UT4 is so much fun. I can't wait until we really start seeing more mods and shit come out.
I'm having quite a bit of fun with the alpha at the moment even though I'm awful at it - my only prior experience is UT99 against bots many years ago. How should I deal with people who rapidly move from left to right and people who rapidly spam their translocator? Also: I like how spamming ready off-and-on causes your "ready" text to flash rainbow colours.
tbh I never really liked what the double jump did to 2k4, even though I liked using it, every single map's size was inflated because of it so it made the game feel a lot slower to me. The most i used it for was dodge jumping to go faster, but in UT4 if you dodge and slide it kind of accomplishes the same thing anyway, and we don't have all these oversized maps.
Finding 8 new posts in this thread is like finding gold considering how minimal activity in this thread tends to be.

This new Unreal Tournament has a nice start so far. Could someone explain me how people are able to kill me with insta-Gib Rifle from 1000 meters? This weapon has no zoom... right?

I barely see a target on the other side of the map. He seems to see me very clearly (zoom?)
Is leveling up only done through online matches, or do custom matches count too? My connection sucks for gaming, so I'm never online.
you're probably moving very predictably and playing against someone who is very skilled. Considering it's a perfectly accurate hit scan weapon, hitting a small target isn't very unfeasible.

i think my game is bugged, i cant do the ctf training
my game fucks up after every offline match so I have to restart. lol
where's the fifth token on the basic training for deathmatch? i only found the two on top of the rocks, the one on the wooden beam, and the one suspended in midair inside the center building also the ctf training is broken for everyone

Take a look. Also, the CTF challenge/training thingy is apparently broken due to the fact that the developers forgot to include it... atleast, that's what I've heard from the official forums.
