Yeah I started the 2k4 campaign the other day and it's pretty cool how you go through qualifiers, drafting a team and such. It's like an actual tournament.
We only know for sure that there will be an extended version of the current challenges system, the current form of "Instant Action" that is currently in game, and what will most likely be a UT99 styled tournament ladder (at some point).
However, I myself would love to see some sort of "Career Mode". I might try writing up a document in the future as to how it could work.
the new sniper looks great in game. I can see how some people could not like it but the comparison is weird because the sniper has ALWAYS looked like shit compared to other guns
in '99 it's a wonky ar15 with a scope on it. in 2k4 it looks ok but still has no character. and in ut3 it has that ugly round grip
imo this is easily the best sniper of the series

for some retarded reason UE4 doesn't have the ability to render the 1st person weapons with a lower FOV like every game ever, and also I don't think they have distorted 1p meshes like the older games

Ut4 is a blast to play with the UT 99 soundtrack playing on winamp when the map don't have any music.
We should do more often group play.

I'm only good in instagib because it gets the adrenaline flowing. I need adrenaline to play this game or I'm complete shite.
It was a miracle I won that match with toxiccow. The last 20 seconds people bunched together in duels and I scooped up the kills with a rocket launcher.

Is anyone else having problems with missing textures? Some aspects of the finished maps, the link gun, and Samael's body has the default material on them instead of their usual materials, and for some reason the viewmodel for the link gun is offsetted with its hologram UI for ammo floating in midair.

Try changing your option settings to Medium. I might be thinking of something else though.
That doesn't seem to work.
I feel that part of the reason the textures were messed up like that may have something to do with me messing around with the UT4 editor. Then again, reinstalling both of those doesn't seem to fix the problem either, so it may just have something to do with the mac version of the game since that's the one I'm currently using.

By the way, what's the general stance on the current weapon/character designs right now? The forums look really convoluted in that regard, on one side they've pretty much established the thundercrash / necris designs, yet they're also like "yeah just make content everyone, you'll be able to put this in the marketplace later on". Have they said how far is the marketplace thing going to go? Custom weapon remodels don't sound very promising to be honest.

the characters and weapons they have now aren't placeholder, they're just subject to change
there are things that don't have official implementations yet, like the bio rifle and chaingun, not to mention all the characters that need to be filled out. so if someone makes something of high enough quality, that could become the official model
but aside from that, people can make characters, weapons, skins, maps, gamemodes etc, and distribute them through the marketplace for free or for revenue share. those people will have to take into account that nothing is 100% final, but they aren't going to do a complete 180 on the current art style

Anything that is a UT3 model should be viewed at as a placeholder model or asset unless they state otherwise, which so far they haven't stated otherwise.
Basically some of the weapons are placeholder, but weapons like the Link Gun, Rocket Launcher, and Shock Rifle aren't. Also the health and armor pickups.

I would play but usually by that time I have to go to bed as it gets a bit late.
Ah yeah, i remember why i like UT more than Quake styled shooters. At least with UT i can kill someone who's a lot more agile with a decently placed flak shot or something, i can hold my own "decently" well. I just get murdered in Quake because everyone is too bloody fast.
