Devil Daggers -- Arena Shooting and Geometry Wars-style Survival Combine to Raise Literal Hell

If ctrl+L does that, I wonder what other secrets there are? There's still that sound file called "secretsnake" or whatever.
I read about ctrl+L on the steam forums but I thought they patched it out a few days ago, it doesn't work for me

Oh, in that case it may have just been a test feature they left in before releasing the game.
It's getting hard playing through the first 265 seconds over and over, progress is slow. I've only gone over 400 seconds a few times, got 454 today. I need that achievement
I also found that the homing daggers do pierce the small skulls, there might be a limit to how many though
I'm also very curious about that secret platform out past the main platform that disappears after a short while. By the Devil Dagger FAQ answer regarding it, it seems like not only are the devs fully aware of it but also that it was completely intentional.
Where is the invisible platform located?
[editline]20th March 2016[/editline]
Nevermind I found it.
[editline]20th March 2016[/editline]
Ok so I'm looking into this because I'm pretty sure there's more to this game than what we know. Especially since there's a couple of sound files called "secretsnake".
Here's where the invisible platforms are located

I also added notes for certain music. The reason I did this was because when I was looking to see if each direction had a platform, I noticed the W platform was producing that music. It can be heard even if you aren't standing on the platform.
I gave this special note because 1) I don't recall hearing the N and E version of polarity and I know I've never heard the S version, and 2) the file names for these sounds are labelled a little strangely; polarity1e, polarity2w. polarity3n, and polarity4s. I find this weird because the normally when you read a compass you start N-E-S-W, however with the way this is numbered, it starts E-W-N-S.
I looked at one of DraQu's videos to see if I could hear the other polarity sounds playing during his run through. It was quite hard to hear through everything, but the few calm points that happened all I could hear was the polarity2w version.
E-W-N-S might be a sequence. Once you drop down onto one of the invisible platforms, you have to dagger jump back up or else you're stuck there. I find it quite difficult to get to each platform without dying, and I have yet to do it.
[editline]20th March 2016[/editline]
Nevermind, you can clearly hear the other polarity songs when near the edges. I was also able to get to each platform in that sequence, but I died on the last platform by accidentally falling off when trying to get back up.

My immediate assumption is that the song numbers create a key where each cardinal direction links to the respective number. But we don't have a code yet.
Who knows though, this is merely gamer instinct.
Could secretsnake have anything to do with the boss transforming eviscerators like he does with skulls?
Could secretsnake have anything to do with the boss transforming eviscerators like he does with skulls?
Never made it that far, but can the boss transform the evisceraters? Certain sound files end with "black" that are for the black version of enemies, but it seems like they are only for the skulls?
Most sound files related to the enemies have their name in it.

The problem is getting to each platform alive. You only have 80 seconds to do so, and trying to dodge/kill skulls while maintaining spacial awareness AND knowing where the center is can be difficult.

Dunno, it'd be really heard to survive from 265-400 with the eviscerators flying around.
I just tried standing on the 4 platforms, N E S W, nothing happened.
I wonder how this game did its Palettization and what palette it uses.
It reminds me alot of Quake but the colors are different.

Did you get to each one in order? Have you tried EWNS?
Did you get to each one in order? Have you tried EWNS?
Just did it, also nothing. I even tried on the main menu with the floating dagger. I wish there was a way to extract the other files, all I can find is the audio extractor some guy made on the steam forums. Maybe the other files have something about secrets too
This invisible platform nonsense is fucking wild, I've been taking a break from DD for the past week and a half or so because I was starting to get a bit frustrated with plateauing skill-wise, but I'll get back at it eventually
The response from Matt Bush seems cryptic for very good reason, so there MUST be something, and of course the existence of secretsnake has gotta be something
If we were able to access the other files, we could probably figure it out easily although that wouldn't be very fun.
Just found this

The arena grows a little bit around 200 seconds
If we were able to access the other files, we could probably figure it out easily although that wouldn't be very fun.
I think we need to give it a try through total trial and error for a while. Sure, if we can't figure out we could datamine, but it really isn't too much fun that way, you're right
This guy managed to extract the shaders in the game, which were in plaintext and made this psuedo-SUPERHOT visual mod, maybe people will eventually figure out how to extract everything else sometime soon.

Apparently my game didn't update automatically, when I verified my game cache it didn't work for me anymore as well.

Doesn't need extracting, you can just open res/dd in a text editor and mess around with the numbers. I was playing around with the tiles yesterday to try and get the invisible ones to show. I couldn't figure out how to change the lighting though
[t]http://i.imgur.com/SIZB3jj.jpg[/t]
I dunno what to think about this secret, it could just have something to do with the arena size changing at certain times. I also couldn't find anything about the secret snake, I know it isn't the only unused sound file in the game. But if there really is a secret I'm guessing they would've hidden it from finding it through a text editor.

I tried to get the exact time for this, but it's rather difficult.
I didn't notice the platform expanding at the 200 mark, but I did see it at 213, so I'm going to guess that it extends at 210.

What other unused sound files are there? They all seem like they have a place to me.

leveldown. As far as I know there's no way to lose a level

It's kinda weird that the secret platform consistently disappears after 80 seconds standing on it (at least it results in a 'Fallen' death after 80 seconds), but the expansion of the arena only seems to visibly appear after 200 seconds in like you mentioned.
The dev mentioned on the FAQ that there may be more in store in the future, maybe some of the leftover files could actually lead to future content?
leveldown. As far as I know there's no way to lose a level
I also don't think levelup2 plays. It's just levelup3 for both upgrades isn't it?
[editline]21st March 2016[/editline]
Also, which sound file plays when using the homing daggers?
Levelup3's used as the third upgrade
Homing daggers use daggerseek. I dunno where the magicpierce or the gigarichochet sounds are played
Where's the FAQ everybody is speaking about?
EDIT: nevermind i found it

You already found it :v: but here's the FAQ for anyone who's still wondering about it.
+> D E V I L D A G G E R S FAQ <+
Q: My game is crashing/exiting when I launch it.
A: Check (username).log in the game folder, if it says anything about opengl or glsl or version 330 you need to update you graphics drivers! You should update your graphics drivers anyway.
Q: That didn't help. My log stops after "st_api".. ?
A: This means the game is crashing when trying to initialise the Steam api. I'm still looking in to it. I don't know why this happens or if there's anything I can do about it as the crash is inside Steam code...
Q: There's an invisible platform I can stand on just off the stage that falls away after about 80 seconds.
A: Yes there is.
Q: I can't see my friends on the leaderboards.
A: First make sure all your friends are playing Devil Daggers, then set your Steam profile to public and run the game once. You should see your friends now and you can set your profile back to private/friends only.
Q: I beat my high score but it didn't update in the leaderboards.
A: There might be a problem connecting to the server or the upload might be slow. Try waiting a few minutes as it should keep retrying if the upload fails. The game also has some cheat detection which can get triggered if the game is lagging a lot or if you're actually cheating.
Q: I always die right after the spider spawns.
A: Watch your back (and listen)... a "Hunter" skull spawns around the same time. They chase you and you can't outrun them. Listen for the sound of a skull laughing at you and prioritize it over everything else.
Q: I can't get to the level 2 hand. / Why is it so hard to collect gems?
A: The gems will attract to you when you're not shooting... take a break from shooting whenever you can and let the gems come to you. Gems fade out after 10 seconds, be careful that none go to waste.
Q: Devil Daggers is a hard game.
A: True. Check out the Steam Community guides for more help.
Q: Mac, Linux, GOG?
A: Soon, maybe, probably.
Q: I want more?
A: We will make some announcements in the near future. Follow us on twitter/facebook if you want to stay updated.
[ WIP ] more to come
Run was going great! Then...
Absolutely love this game.
I changed a bunch of numbers for lighting and tiles again
The main menu where you collect the dagger isn't the same arena, it has some tiles that're pretty far away
[t]http://i.imgur.com/ElqV20o.jpg[/t]
And then there's a tile in survival in the northwest that slowly disappears by 10 seconds
[t]http://i.imgur.com/q3cpVME.jpg[/t]
Probably nothing at all since you can't get near them. Invisible tiles were still invisible so I dunno
Also, a user told me on the steam discussion that the arena doesn't actually extend around the 200 mark, but rather falls apart.
