They're not slug-fests, think of it like chess.
What does the enemy need to do for you to kill them? At what point are you nearly GUARANTEED victory? Try to get to that position.

Ok then stop playing 3v3 :v:
I don't understand how some people are complaining about losing every single 1v1
It's literally 1 v 1 with nothing on the side, if you consistently do almost nothing but lose then you're not very good at the game
Torbjorn is the best 1v1 class

Once beat a low 3000 player in McCree 1v1 not by outaiming but by mindgaming and outplaying him. (sneaky flashbang roll) and his comment was "wow the game let the shittier one win"

Being bad at 1v1 doesn't mean you're bad at the game.
The game is very team oriented, and fights are usually between groups instead of individual people. A good DPS player will use the chaos of a teamfight to single out several targets, and make it back out. Does this mean they are bad because they aren't 1v1 someone in a arcade gamemode? No, in my opinion. A player without godlike mechanical skills can still a good player if they are good at reading an enemy team, taking advantage of opportunities in team battles, and saving ultimate at the right times.

It's like chess but with no form of board/map control, so actually it's not like chess. Quake duels are like chess because of item spawns.
Man, I wish I could aim. That would help me so much with this game.

If you lose at every single 1v1 then your mechanical skills are nonexistent and you are not a very good player because those skills are a very important part of the game. You cannot assume that you will never be noticed and you definitely cannot assume that your team will always need a support. At the very least, consistently losing duels means that you are not well-rounded.
Situational awareness and taking advantage of players is important, but in the end the same skills used for reading/beating a single player are only multiplied in difficulty for managing multiple targets. Being godlike at 1v1 does not make you godlike at the game, but being absolutely terrible at 1v1 means that you're probably not that good.

try playing counterstrike for a bit and/or messing around with your mouse settings
Man, I wish I could aim. That would help me so much with this game.
I know you've probably heard this a lot, but really consider lowering your mouse settings, if you haven't.
The general rule I use is to be able to be able to rotate 360 when going from one end of the mousepad to another.
(800 dpi at sensitivity 8 for me, for example)
Also spend time practicing in the practice range, usually against the bots that move on the right side.
[editline]s[/editline]
A friend of mine on the other hand is a bit more extreme, playing at 7.5 with 400 dpi, as he used to play a lot of CS:GO.
It's really about finding something that feels comfortable to use, but just make sure you're aiming with your arm and not just your wrist.

That's just the boop spray, sadly, not two sprays.

They move in fixed patterns and don't have the hitboxes of an actual player, so the practice range is pretty useless. Quick play or 3v3 is probably the best for aim practice.

aw, I thought the P was its own spray
that's a strange spray to put in

I understand that, but for me at least it's been more about getting consistent shots.
Of course you are right, quickplay is better for practice overall, but the practice range shouldn't just be written off.

Nah. People have always refered to Lucio and Pharah's knockback abilities as boops. It's just a little community reference, like Dva's doritos behind her gravestone, or the Zarya spray named "Tobelstein".
Might also have been because of Sombra. :tinfoil:

He also said Reaper.
Welp, it seems some friends and I will play the free weekend to see how much the game has changed since the Open Beta. I hope McCree doesn't kill me instantly and Lúcio is still an amazing support.
He also said Reaper.
Need hardcore reap skills to deal with both Ana and Roadhog.
Now that I'm kind of figuring out Sombra I'm loving her so much
her lack of a sitting animation is literally fucking unplayable though
