been meaning to get to these for a while. been feeling more like working on mutations so players can further improve and establish themselves
more steady progress on caldern, the generic citizen types have been made and i'm just making subsets for them (more experienced scavenger types, undead citizens)
in the background i've been doing more working on the web frontend. you can see it at http://sabbath.online:777 and can read mailing lists and help articles from the MOO in your web browser now instead of just mailing lists, and now it uses HYPERLINK TECHNOLOGY as to be more convenient for the average user.

physical currencies and exchange rates, in preparation for the update that'll cause the pwipe. this is going to completely phase out electronic money and open up the need to store money in banks, pickpocketing, and looting money off of bodies.

it took ~24 hours without sleeping but i've converted every reference to the old electronic credit system to instead call the physical currency system.
the two pictures display dealing with new currencies and how the values change between them, respectively.
ended up expanding more on how workbench recipes are found. i'll let this new snippet from the craft help file explain it:
When it comes to getting instructions for assembling certain things, you'll need to have enough pieces to get a clearer picture of what you're trying to make. Trying to see what all recipes a gunsmith's workbench has when there's nothing on it will return no results.
However, with some firearm mechanisms and some other materials are on the table, you'll start to see more you can put together.
The amount of stuff you must have before something becomes clear to you may vary depending on what you're making, and your skill total required to make the object may also affect how easily you can comprehend such elaborate constructions.
This is not always true -- you may need to have specific instructions or schematics for special cases.
PWIPE'S DONE
The Stillborn pwipe has finished and has set a new backdrop for the game in an underground society named Caldern, as opposed to the terrifying industrial nightmare that Nakavas was supposed to be (and will be in the future).
The Caldern areas should be MUCH more newbie friendly and properly display the progress that's been made with Stillborn's core systems throughout the last few months, including the updates adding physical currency, changing crafting recipe availability, the skill IP concept, and more.
With things as streamlined as they are now progress should continue at a better rate than before. Hope you like the new shit!
Roleplay still isn't 100% enforced yet but it should be easier now.

Gonna give it another whirl since everything's wiped now. Good job on the game so far portal.

pwipe brought a large bounty of bugs to be fixed, but none should be problems anymore

progress is... uh... good
Stillborn is now officially considered beta. This is a great milestone for Stillborn development and means we can focus on fixing stuff instead of bugs that made us both laugh and want to die.

new pain system to bring health management closer to being all cataclysm/NEO scav-like.

Do pain and shock correlate, or are they separate dealios still?
they kind of correlate. pain at higher levels can cause shock.
You made a wasteland workbench out of two sheets of low grade metal, two piles of scrap wood, a collection of bolts, a collection of nails, and four rolls of duct tape.
more crafting should be integrated soon. mostly being shown off here is the first tier workbench that can make lots of low grade stuff, the percentages that display how many required ingredients you have for a project, and also new is the fact that some projects can be made on multiple types of workbench (i.e. human leather armor can be made on a wasteland workbench OR a sewing machine)

there's this now, since the subject was pretty touchy and i don't want to put off anyone over that detail (even though i still expect people to fuck dead bodies and animals. or dead animals) or god forbid, fulfill the dreams of some particularly sick fucks

this'll be interesting to work on. probably gonna need to pick up a call of cthulhu rulebook to find out how to make it work
we're considering RP enforcement now, since every primary system is playable and functions and not a lot really requires testing anymore (outside of balance, but that's always going to be tested). there might be a decision on that soon
Stillborn is now RP enforced and a pwipe at the end of the beta is no longer guaranteed.
We've also been getting more players recently as the game continues to expand:
(server v1.10.4 up 12:07:38:35, 6 connected out of 37 active players.)
we have a MUDConnect listing up now!
we continue to expand and improve. if you were on the fence about joining before/heeded the beta warnings, stuff's pretty complete and playable at the core if you feel like stoppin' by
I've been fiddling around on Stillborn for quite a while, so I'd like to give a little review of it for anyone who might be interested.
Stillborn is difficult. Even though it's still in development, you can clearly see what the developers are intending to make. The starting area, Caldern Sector 7, is infested with giant raccoon-rats that randomly attack newbies and are actually pretty tough. The next-easiest location has tons of hobos who are perfectly capable of handing you your ass if you're not prepared for them. Even keeping yourself healthy, fed, and unstressed is difficult, as money is hard to come by.
Stress is a real killer in this game, considering how easy it is to get it and how much of an effect it has on you. At a certain point, stress starts to completely destroy your skills and abilities, and at higher levels (dependent on your age) you'll start suffering lethal heart attacks randomly.
But the big thing about all this difficulty is that it feels like you're fighting against the game. The satisfaction or scrounging up enough tokens to buy a beer and a piece of armor is as powerful as clearing the Garbage in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: the game tried its very hardest to prevent you from reaching this point, and you made it anyway! It's there where the best part of Stillborn comes in, and the shared camaraderie you have with every other player makes it feel all the better.
All in all, Stillborn is an experience. If you're into roleplaying in a terrifying, painful world, Stillborn is for you. If you want a completely casual experience with no risk of losing anything, you might want to find something else. It's definitely an acquired taste, but there is no better feeling than coming back from a scavenging run in the coal mines and shooting the shit with your fellow scumbags in the local bar.

as far as actual development goes we've been working on systems for factory management to get some kind of player competition going. the difference between this and hellmoo gangland cameras is that this can control actual resources and is dependent on player economy.
in addition, terminal hacking is a bit cooler. see below

working on faction diplomacy rates. this means that rep with one faction can directly modify your reputation with others, i.e. positive loyalist rep makes the black tsardom of nakavas and creed of the lamb hate you, positive embryo rep means positive loyalist rep, etc.
Black Tsardom of Nekavas is a fucking sick band name.

someone told me Stillborn sounded like the name of a death metal band
It is. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stillborn_(band)
at least it's the kind of band i'd hope a band named stillborn is
