I have X3: Terran Conflict, But I can't understand it for shit. It also lags like hell even though my computer can run crysis on medium.
Just because you can run Crysis well doesn't mean you can run X3: Terran Conflict well. Terran Conflict isn't harder to run, but it demands very different things from your system than Crysis does.
Unlike Crysis, Terran Conflict does not care much how good your video card is. If you can run Crysis on medium then your video card is probably more than good enough for Terran Conflict.
What Terran Conflict does care about is the speed of your CPU and the amount of RAM your system has. This game eats processing power and memory for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. At least 3GB of RAM is recommended to run it smoothly. It's also recommended that you have a fairly fast dual core processor (a faster dual core is preferrable over a slower quad core in this case since this game can't use more than that.).
Also, while not necessarily a requirement it helps if your hard drive has a decent read/write speed because even if you do have 4GB of RAM this game will still have to put quite a bit into virtual memory and will have to access it pretty often.
The main reason for all the memory use is that aside from the sector you are currently in, there are over a hundred other sectors running in the background in some limited form and things keep going in all of those sectors even if you're not there.
And that, everybody, is why your traders keep diying when they are out of the sector.
That, and while they'd be able to dodge AHEPT shots IS, pretty certain that OOS calculations do not take weapon accuracy into account.
The 1.3 patch has been released guys, thought y'all would like to know

Yeah, nice one.
Edit:
Argh, fudge monkeys. It's not compatible with the steam version though so I'll have to wait for them to get their arse in gear and add the files for Steam.

Holy shit nice. Ima look at the changelog.
Looks like the bug with Lasertowers and Centaurs getting killed by pirate freighters out of sector is fixed.
I don't see that it mentions slow-thinking turrets or Flak guns, which I hear sometimes stop dealing damage when you save until you next jump to a sector.
But still, it does list as having fixed a lot of the much-whined-about bugs in the Ego forums.
In other news the P is a fucking excellent ship. I had one randomly bail out during Xenon defense, and after a lengthy bout of manual repair I fixed it up and now use it as my personal ship. It's the perfect 'jumbo fighter' type Corvette, and the laser regeneration is better than a Heavy Centaur and the like (500MW).
I used it in an average-rated Xenon patrol mission and easily tamed the P zerg-rush you get in Xenon patrols. Earning me a 10 million credits that I now have no idea what to do with. I think I'll buy a Hercules with the 24 million I now have saved up, so that I can buy stations without the slow shit TL captains and their jumpdrive boycott.
I had hoped Ego would come up with the goods again, and they have.
Well after applying 1.3 ...
The game still does not use my video card, at all, Not even taxing it except for two tiny spikes of 60% or so usage upon exiting the game, and starting it, all other times, it runs at 0%
Therefor my framerate is in the single digits

If you don't like the turret AI, fuck - I don't. Have a look for the M.A.R.S mod I think it's called. You may need another program to install it properly but this Mars mod is great.
Makes the turrets actually responsive, they won't shoot at things if an enemy is behind it, like a friendly station or something dropping your rep.
They target things based on if they are actually likley to hit it and they won't use your biggest guns to hit the smallest ships, they will actually target the biggest threats first. There's also a defence mode that you can use to shoot down missiles and stuff if the missile is likley to do more than 50% damage on impact.
It also comes with a drone mod for little fighter drones you can install into your ship, they can auto collect loot for you and drag ships into your capture range or at least closer to you.
I use it, it's great although I have to turn off the auto loot collect sometimes as they don't care if the goods are illegal or not.

What videocard do you have? Is there no way to force the game to see it? Like setting the affinity on CPUs?

What are your specs, specifically what processor and how much RAM do you have?
Given the nature of this game I wouldn't be surprised if the problem isn't your video card at all.

AMD Athlon 2800+ 2gigs of Ram and X1650 Pro w/ 512megs
The video card just isn't being used, at all, by the game
I'll approve of that MARS mod, the one for Reunion is a MUST HAVE for every pilot, you simply can't kill as effectively without it.
MARS mod is also out for Terran Conflict. I agree, it is a must have.
There is a huge amount of scripts out there that I consider essential just now. MARS is just one of them
I think I'm still going to have to wait a few months to play this. X3 Reunion was only worth playing with the many many mods and scripts I have for it.
I'm also pretty sick of the cycle I'm in.
Played X2 and very slowly built up my empire. I finally got a few dozen ships and then my harddrive fails.
Try number 2 and I'm pretty much at the same point.
X3 comes out so I decide to start over. I finally have my own HQ and there's no way I'm transferring to X3 unless someone makes a save game converter (some one has done this with one the X games so don't tell me it's not possible. It simply got a list of player entities and spawned them in the same place should that place exist).
No one has made such a converter for Reunion to Conflict have they?
Yes, they have.
I'll see if I can get the link from the forums....
Here we are:

Good luck mate, haven't tried it myself, but hopefully it will work.
A little late, but a new update is out for X3: Terran Conflict. Version 1.3, have fun with it! The total download from 1.0.1 to 1.3 is 74.8MB. The update from 1.2x to 1.3 is 52.9MB.
Another little update is out for X3: Terran Conflict. Version 1.4, have fun with it! The total download from 1.0.1 to 1.4 is 81MB. The update from 1.3 to 1.4 is 50.7MB.
Alright, I'm playing as the Humble Merchant, and all I'm making is petty cash buying and selling energy cells. The missions showing up are a lot of work for a little cash. Am I going to have to make do with the little cash-ins? It's taking forever to rake in a decent profit, and it's constant back and forth. I'm not giving up, as I love this kind of thing, but how long did it take you guys to really expand your platform a bit?

While grinding can make you money in this game, it's usually not the best way to do it. There are much more fun and effective ways to make money in this game.
Missions tend to be short and can in fact be a good way to get started. Once you get the hang of it you can do a lot of them in a short amount of time.
As far as trade goes you want to go around finding gaps in the economy where demand for a given product would be great. Look for stations that are always lacking in certain resources. If you see an area severely lacking in a particular resource or product, you may be able to build a station there producing that resource and make a lot of money by becoming the main supplier of that resource in that area.
Personally I never fly my trade ships myself, it's far too boring and unnecessary in most cases. I would buy a faster ship as soon as possible and fly that instead and equip it with trading system extension so you can control your freighters remotely. By doing that you only have to give your freighter new orders every time it finishes a task and for the most part you'll be free to do more interesting things like finding more profit opportinities.
A lot of people make the mistake of falling into a grinding routine to make money in this game, but it's almost never the best way to do things. Try to become more familiar with the tools the game offers you because it's very easy to end up doing a frustrating repetative task only to find later that the game already has a system in place that can do it for you.
It might be hard to believe now since you're only starting out, but later on you'll find how this game can quickly become a multi-tasking nightmare if you're not careful. Right now you're probably spending a lot of time just waiting for your ship get somewhere, but in this game it doesn't take long to go from not having enough to do to having too much to do. Managing several complexes and dozens of ships can become a daunting task and you'll be thankful for how the game slowly eases you into it.

Sounds good, I'll try it tomorrow, I'm too pissed at the game right now. Was running a shipment of crystals into Power Circle to sell to a solar plant, and randomly blew up. it took one shot, and I don't know who or what it was that made me die, and it pissed me off royally. :(
If you have any problems try going to the Egosoft forums because someone there probably has an answer.
One of the things that new players sometimes have trouble grasping is that this game has a lot of AI that can work for you and take care of the more repetative tasks. A lot of the software you may have noticed being sold at equipment docks is just that, AI scripts made to automate certain tasks. For example, Trade Command Software Mk I allows a freighter to be assigned to a station and can be set to automatically buy resources for that station or sell good from that station. Trade Command Software Mk III allows a freighter to be set up as a "Sector/Universal Trader" that will automatically search for, buy, and sell goods for a profit. These become more important for cutting down on the amount of micro-management needed as you accumulate more ships and stations.
I'm really interested in this game. From what I've heard, it sounds like the sort of game I can really get into, but I'm not sure if I want to buy it yet.
Is there some sort of demo I can try before I buy it? I've looked around, but I can't seem to find anything.
Yeah, the game sounds like I'd like it alot, but I'd like to try it out first. Any demos or anything?
Well, as soon as I make up some money for a new cheap speedy ship or something, my Discoverer got destroyed in a sector during a resource run (Did a shit job protecting me) and then my ship got blown up in Power Circle. I'll have to reload my file with 30,000 less credits :(
I was about to buy this so I went on Paypal and apparently I owe them £90 :geno:

X3 Reunion has a demo. The gameplay between X3R and X3TC is almost exactly the same, thought X3TC is a bit more combat oriented (because it's far more easy to do combat missions than trading missions early on).
I freaking love the music in this game, The music in Argon Prime is so soothing. The main theme is awesome too. I can't find the files though, anyone know where they are?

Any ship in the same class as that Disco is about as good an escort as a roast potato. Not to mention that the AI is stupid. I don't know why they're called fighters at all, when their only practical usage is as a scout.
