But how do I fight them? They move way to fast for me to target them with anything. I know missiles can track, but lasers can't.
What ship are you in
Don't forget you can left click on things while in flightmode to select them. If they're too fast for your shit to get a hit in, find a Phased Repeater Gun. It's basically a minigun, uber high bullet speed, sure to swat those little harriers/discos/whatever.

I'm in the very first ship though thanks to my bad habbit of cheating for more money I also have 3 other discoverers now so I'll start using one of those once I can find more lasers for them all.
I think it's pretty dumb how you have to earn trust in certain races to buy certain ships. I liked just hopping in, popping in a money cheat and fucking about with stations.
Which ship is that.... There are several different starts all with different ships.
Hmm, you say 'other discoverers'. If you're in a discoverer yourself they're about as good fighters as a dollop of whipped cream.
If you picked the Humble Merchant start then you'll probably have to do a little trading and missions until you can get an M4... Or preferrably an M3.

The Argon Buster. I started with a new custom game. I have 2 lasers, my discoverer has 4 I think. I have some missiles as well. We both have max shieldings 3x1MJ each. All fully upgraded.
Turns out my save got consfused I only have one Discoverer along with my Buster.

The Buster's an M4 so that's okay. But 3MJ shielding is a fifth of the shielding the buster CAN have. Buy a few 5MJ shields, it can pack 3 of them. I'm pretty sure the Buster can mount the Phased Repeater Guns, just the one will do nicely against those annoying little M5s. But it does chew through the energy quite fast.
Ugh i can't find ANY Mammoths roaming space anywhere! Why is that? In X2 they are all over the place delivering goods. I want my space stations! :(
Hell I want my Titans, but I guess you need to progress in rank for everything now, which is LAME!
I freaking love this game. I've burned so many hours.
Yes, but not by much.
If you found X3: Reunion to be completely unplayable then you probably won't find this one much better.
It wasn't unplayable, but frustrating because the game wouldn't tell you how the fuck to get to the quest area. Also, no tutorial so basically you get your lasgun, armor and sent on your way with a good "The emperor protects"
This game has the remarkable ability to make me drowsy.
I have no idea why, it's like a drug.
For anyone who'd building complexes yet...

You made the OCC? Nice.
Very useful tool.
Speaking of complexes, will anything like weapons, shields, high-tech stuff get the attention of NPC traders? The computer plants on my complex at the moment are never without a potential buyer.
I'm starting to develop an industry in President's End, seeing as I wanted an empty space to get started. Any other potential areas to look at when it comes to beating everyone at getting there first?
Well as I've said, the NPC traders seem to be quite interested in buying computer components. I also hear small shields are quite good.
I made an X-Universe group guys :)

Anyway, i'm going to start a new game as Pious Paranid because i want a challenge for once, do you know what races want to end your existence when you start out?
Has the shitty voice acting been fixed? I still haven't played this since about a week after release.
Has the shitty voice acting been fixed? I still haven't played this since about a week after release.
I can remember one game in the history of games that I actually noticed voice acting being fixed (the introduction of Jeri Ryan's lines for Seven of nine in an Elite Force patch). Basically, never, ever assume you're getting new/better voices in a patch.

If bad voice acting is the only reason you're not playing X3:TC then i'm sorry.

agreed. Voice acting isn't great, but it's a really small complaint compared to everything the game has to offer.
Wow, the Spitfyre's pretty good. Takes a while to get it to go places around Aldrin, and there's some kind of horrible shortage of experimental EMPCs - but you can clone them. Wonder what it's like in full-on combat, haven't seen any opportunities yet. Everything's too safe.

As far as I am aware, the Spitfyre is one of the best (if not the best) M3s in the game if you can get your hands on the EEMPCs. Go bother some Xenon if you want to test ships.
I love X3TC but I've pretty much stopped playing it altogether because it looks pretty terrible on my system and has periods of horrific lag. That said, it's a laptop so I can't really complain. Ah well, later this year I'll be building a new computer that should be able to handle games released this side of 2004 (Source games excluded; they've always worked fine on decent settings for some reason) so it's just a waiting game now.
My system has a 2GHz dual core, 3GB ram and an 8800GTS and it still sometimes lags like gigantic cock. And I have my graphics settings on all low. It's a shame because it's hard to appreciate your complex when you look at it and suddenly the framerate drops through the floor.
And yeah I'll have a go at the Xenon. It's quite nice knowing that I can outrun some of the heavy lasers completely. It'll be quite a shock upgrading from this to a frigate if I get round to amassing the money, because the speed gets you anywhere in a flash - and you don't get the tradeoff of shite combat ability that you do with an M5.
It's could be your CPU causing the lag, I think I read that X3TC doesn't multithread, and a single 2GHz is a little on the low side for a demanding game like this. Though if you're getting lag when looking at certain things and less lag when you aren't then it's probably your video card.
There's supposed to be a "Complex Cruncher" or something like that which reforms the complexes into something less laggy if that's the problem too.

I have a laptop running on 2.26GHz dual core, 4GB RAM and an 9600M GT and it runs it smoothly on medium.
That seems to suggest you're not getting the performance you should be getting. Try looking through the Egosoft forums, someone has probably found some fix for whatever is causing your game to lag more than it should.
I have a pretty crappy computer myself, i can run it "rather" smoothly on low/medium.
When i enter Argon Sector M148 I seem to get alot of lag, probebly due to my HUGE complex of:
1. Cattle Ranch
2. Cahoona Bakery
3. Chip Plant
4. Silicon Mine
and 5. Ore Mine
The lack of multithreading sure is raping my quad-core pretty bad. This is especially terrible considering interviews said they would greatly benefit from dual-core and even benefit slightly more from quad cores. Complete lies. Worst campaign I've ever seen, in story, bugs, and fun.
Anyways, before I totally give up on this and go back to X3:Reunion, is there any way to figure out which script is looping and freezing me up? I open the script debugger and look at the global tasks, but I can't seem to find the culprit.
Do you have Conflicts installed? That mod is epic, but it destroys the game.
Do you have Conflicts installed? That mod is epic, but it destroys the game.
I sure do. I suspected it immediately on crashing and so I disabled it in AL and also tried removing all the scripts, but I think it was too late. I think I'll just restart with the race patrol mod.
Anyone have a good suggestion for a sector to center my empire? I've historically always picked Ore Belt despite:
-It being laggy.
-Asteroids causing ships to crash and stations to explode.
-Poor world location
-Heavy Pirate Attacks
-It being marked as a khaak invasion sector.
I guess I'm just a masochist.

Doesn't always lag... The problem is it's almost definitely graphical lag - in some sectors it runs fine, very smooth. But take PTNI Headquarters for example - when I look at the NMMC HQ station it lags like a motherfucker. I turn away from it and look at nothing, and it runs pretty good.
I'm running patch 1.4 now so I don't know what else I can do to stop the lag.
Oh and also Egosoft have been working on the 2.0 patch, and they're releasing a beta to the high-access users: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=233058
We're entering a new era with our first public beta test. The version available to test is X³: Terran Conflict 2.0, featuring the Aldrin Expansion missions. In 2.0 you can look forward to a whole new mission, new stations and new sectors.
Sounds good, eh. Unfortunately to get access you have to surrender your full postal address and my paranoid side is keeping my hands tied. Oh well.

Eh, I almost never do missions, I do my trading thing, haha. looks good though, one of these days I'll catch up on the missions.
You do get some rather nice ships out of the Terran plot, and I think the corporation missions give free ships at the end, too. Never tried them, though.
God damn capturing a Hyperion is impossible. Mostly due to its incredible speed for a corvette, and also due to its good turret coverage. I've had about 15 attempts at capturing a Hyperion with a P. I run to the gate he's headed for, throw a firestorm torpedo at him (takes of all the shield with no hull damage) and use SETA to let it hit without being shot down by missile defenses. I throw my marines at him but he's so fast at 162m/s that there's fuck all point trying to catch him, especially with marines floating along at 28m/s.
The problem is there's no 'just fucking kick the marines out' button, you have to give the ship the board command, at which point it lazily makes its way over to the target and drops the marines. That usually ends up with them BEHIND the target. This game needs a god damn 'just fucking kick the marines out' button.
