That is sad. The Terran Plot isn't too hard to complete. Although, Final Fury def. is!
I hadn't actually got all that far I think, I still hadn't got to Earth so I may just redo it. If I do my free-roam file can I still get into the inner Terran systems or do I need to get my ranks up with them.
You should really want this. And, does anyone want to have the honors of posting some screenshots? If not, I will...
Nice mod, I think I will stick with Vanilla for now though...

The only way to get to Earth is to get your ATF rank up. To do that, guess what you need to complete...?
Oh, and I am the highest Terran Rank too by the way (in both ATF Research Access, and I think the Terran one is Hero Of Sol)

You should get Combat mod. The fights don't make me get 5 FPS anymore, and the capital ships battles look more epic (as in, not flying disco ball of death (aka PPC) spam)
Also, how did you get past Earth Access in the ATF rank? Does the Aldrin Missions improve your ATF rank?

That looks completely awesome. It looks like you're controlling your largest ships from thirdperson with mouse clicks. Is that right? I have Reunion and it seems completely different.

Ship control can be exactly like it is in X3: Reunion, there's 3 ways of flying (which can be changed on the fly with key shortcuts):
Classic, this is just like X3: Reunion's mode when the mouse is not active. Can use it with the joystick.
Mouse Follow: The ship will pitch and yaw towards the mouse, Freelancer/Darkstar One style. Roll is manual. I'm not sure if you can use the joystick with this mode.
Standard: This is like X3: Reunion when the mouse is active. Ship control is done by holding down MOUSE1, which makes it act like Mouse Follow, or using the arrow keys and WASD/joystick.
I prefer going into third person and Mouse follow mode when using capital ships, it makes it easier to see and dodge enemy fire.
How much time does this game consume? I saw a copy for $10 when I went to pick up Fritz GMchallengeIII, and I considered buying it.
Humm I'm itching to play a deep simulation. This thread really has gotten me interested in this game. Not sure if I'll buy.
This game can take up months of time.

There are people that play for years on one save, and others who play until they get a capital ship, then start all over and repeat. I play it a couple hours a week.
But if it's only 10$ there is no reason at all not to buy it.

X3: Reunion has a demo on STEAM or somewhere, the basic gameplay is similar. I think the demo is only a combat training mission, which means you can't see the trading or capital ship fighting.
The game starts out really slow, but it picks up as you get more stuff.
It's really hard to picture when you first start out, but this game can actually go from a waiting game to a micromanagement nightmare if you're not careful. The loads of waiting time you have in the beginning can get filled up pretty quickly depending on how you play.
On one of my old X3: Reunion saves I built up over a long period of time I was barely using SETA anymore because of all the stuff I had to do doing to keep all my complexes and traders running well. Eventually I ended up downloading a few mods and scripts to make things more automated and selling off my whole UT fleet because they kept dying and had to be replaced on a fairly regular basis due to their numbers.
I'm still struggling on my reunion game, but I think I'll finish that up and switch over to TC this summer.

Fastest way to cash in X3: Reunion
Install XTM
Install Bail Signal Extension
Install Salvage Claim Software
Engage P patrols in Scale Plate Green
Enjoy your $$$ from captured Xenon P's.
In vanilla, I'd just get a bunch of ST/UT's to get a stable income before you start getting into factories and stuff.
I tried hard to get into this game, but the long and dull flights in between doing anything at all put me off.
I've been thinking about getting this game because I've had this strange urge to play a good space type game lately and this seems to be it. However, can you start having fun from the start? Or is it going to take awhile before I learn the ropes and get better ships to start having fun?
This game rocks.. Best mod Ever. SR-1 Normandy (Mass Effect)

I've got the model off the guy that made it. When i have time i'm going to put it in a gmod map.
Get the ship from the Egosoft forums.
Edit:
The ship looks even better in the latest version. the screenshots are from the old version.

Shouldn't be too difficult as long as you read the quickstart guide.
Shouldn't be too difficult as long as you read the quickstart guide.
Yeah I have no problem reading the need information to learn about the game but is it fun when your just starting out or will it take a bit? Meaning are there cool battles at the start?
Also I've seen a few screen shots and a video with first person view with really cool cockpits, is that in the game itself or a mod?
Also how big do the ships get? Like anyone have any screen shots of an end game titan?
If you immediately go for the nearest pirate sector, you shouldn't have any trouble getting into a skirmish with atleast a few ships.
If you're only in it for the battles, you might not get much out of this game.
Combat only makes up a small portion of the game.

I'm not but what else is there to it? Trade?
It doesn't seem like there's a major storyline component to it, if there is correct me.
Also I would hope that a game that self titles itself a space trade and combat simulator would have combat take a large portion of the game ;D.

There is quite a bit of combat there right from the beginning, but it's only part of a much larger picture. For example, trading in this game has a quite a bit of depth to it and can be another entertaining aspect of the game.
Perhaps the best way to describe the game is that it has combat, trading, building, strategy, and exploration, and so on and all those different components of the game are tied together and connected in the middle by economics (a.k.a. money).
The game pretty much consists of many fun ways to make a profit to fund your activities which in turn lead to more profit, whether your capturing ships, searching for trading opportunities, constructing factory complexes, or arming a fleet of warships for an invasion. Fun leads to profit leads to more ways to have fun and so on.
There is a storyline, but it isn't the main focus of the game. For the most part what the game does is present you with a universe in which you can do whatever you want.
Yes, there is combat and plenty of it to go around, but it's only part of what the game has to offer.
If you are looking for a purely space-combat sim, it doesn't get much better than Freespace 2, which is legally downloadable on the internet:

What are some of the best mods for X3, if there are any?

Freespace 2 is not legally downloadable for free. It was just up for download on the Freespace 2 Source Code Project website because there was no way to buy it for quite a while.
You can buy Freespace 2 on GOG.com now so the free download has been taken down.

If you're using X3: Reunion:
The Xtended Mod http://www.thexuniverse.com/modules/XTM_Main/index.php
X3:TC has most of what XTM has, but balanced (less uber-rape-everything ships), and more polished.
If you're using X3: Terran Conflict:
Complex cleaner: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=225042
It makes your station complexes not look like giant masses of spaghetti.
Before: http://img3.imagebanana.com/view/wx2f03r6/CC_Spaghetti.jpg
After: http://img3.imagebanana.com/view/wx2f03r6/CC_Spaghetti.jpg
Race Response Fleet: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=233908
The races of the game will invade each other's sectors, have a massive battle, and if the invader is succesful; destroy all the stations in the sector and repopulate it. It also will make ships jump into sectors to counter threats (pirates, xenon, kha'ak, you (if you're hostile)). I personal have the invasions part of the mod disabled, because it tends to screw up the game economy after a while.
Combat mod 3: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=241047
This mod alters the statistics, effects, and sounds of almost all the lasers (not missiles) in the game to reduce slowdown, make fights look more impressive, and remove the annoying explosion effect spam that plagues the regular game.

There's a homeworld mod for X3TC on the Egosoft forums. I think they only have a couple of ships in-game so far but i'm already excited.

Holy fucking fuck.
I'm starting to get some money going now and I'm thinking of getting a station but I've never really tried it before. What's a good one to start with? I was thinking solar plants would probably be good.

I went for an Asteroid Miner, had a ship ferrying in power cells or whatever it is and another ship trying to find places to sell on my produce.
