I'm starting to get some money going now and I'm thinking of getting a station but I've never really tried it before. What's a good one to start with? I was thinking solar plants would probably be good.
Solar power plants take forever to pay for themselves, their resources cost a lot and their products sell low.
Space Fuel and Space weed make a boatload of cash and quickly pay for themselves, but if you place them in a sector that's patrolled by police (Core, Border sectors owned by the main races) they'll be destroyed; you can only place them in Pirate and Unknown sectors.
To board a ship without the pods, do I manually release the marines or is there a command software I need to get them to board. I was close to Earth, just jumped into Venus and there was a Yokohama just sitting in front of the gate. Needless to say it didn't end well. Now I gotta do the Aldrin mission again.
If you eject the marines via the freight screen, they'll just think it's holiday time and fly off to the nearest station. If you want to get them to board, there should be a piracy category in your ship's command console, in which there should be a board ship option. Click that, then click current target, then click launch marines whatever it is, I haven't bothered with boarding since I got my Hyperion that way.
Going through the command is pretty slow. A guy made a hotkey so you can launch the marines with 1 keypress.
Only M6s and TPs can do the above.

Yeah I found the boarding option in the command console but the ship flies for a bit then just stops and doesn't move. Damn this game gets frustrating at times, a Boron freighter sits infront of the gate as I come through, I hit it and go down a rank. I take up a mission on easy difficulty to escort 2 freighters into Home of Light (which is the next system over), 2 centaurs jump into the system but I kill them but the freighters for who knows what reason decide to stop right in front of the gate into Home of Light and about 15 more pirates appear right behind them and kill them.

I have the same problem and it makes the stage in the Terran Plotline where you have to board a ship impossible. Anyone else fixed this?

Yeah it's really frustrating at times, I think the relaxing soundtrack is there for the purpose of stopping you from ragequitting after 20 minutes.
The last escort mission I took spawned a fucking destroyer nearby. I couldn't kill it in my Hyperion (actually I probably could but it would take ages and I couldn't be arsed) so I ran away and left them to get raped.
I think escort missions should always be super-easy, xenon invasions always super-hard, and the other mission types somewhere between.

It seemed to work for me, but really, don't bother. There's only 2 places in the plot that want you to board something (the Vidar bit, and the Deca bit at the end)
In fact in the case of the Vidar it's best not to, as if you sit there and twiddle your thumbs long enough, the guy'll just give it to you, and if you do try and board it the marines probably won't be skilled enough and the ship will take hull damage from what's going on inside.
In the case of Deca, again don't bother, the ship will get 'boarded' by the NPCs eventually and it'll ping to friendly.
I don't like how the Terran Plot introduces you to boarding ships.
The ships and marines they provide you with are not very good at all and the conditions in both cases are far from ideal. In my opinion it doesn't work well as an introduction to the idea of boarding ships because it makes it seem far more difficult than it really is most of the time.
Most of the time when you capture ships in this game it's much easier than in the Terran Plot because you'll be able to prepare what you need beforehand and when you do the actual boarding you're likely to have much better marines, better ships, and maybe even boarding pods and your disposal.
Has anybody tried the new Apocalypse script? I've tried it and it's rather... difficult.
Needless to say a massive combat test. Enjoy killing destroyers in your Kha'ak M6 if you're starting it on Easy, though.
Does anyone know whats the best or good cargo to trade. At the moment I'm just doing ore and getting around 80+K each run but I'll to find something better eventually. For a universe trader should I invest in a better freighter, I'm using a Split Caiman or will it be good for a while.
The Caiman sounds alright. The under-average shielding might not hold up long enough if pirates jump in, but you should be alright. I don't have much experience with freighters, all I've ever used is the stock Mercury.
It can't hurt to start trading in high-tech wares like quantum tubes, crystals, things like that which run into thousands per unit.
If you see a weapon or missile factory with more than half stock, buy it all up (you'll pay the below-average price for each unit) and sell it to an equipment dock that DOESN'T have it listed when you view the remote info panel. Equipment docks will buy any of your shields, missiles and guns, and if it isn't listed normally it'll instantly delete what you sold it, so there's no worries buying more than you can sell.
I usually find Sector Traders more useful than Universal Traders in this game.
Unlike Reunion, you can actually set a jump range of more than one sector for Sector Traders in Terran Conflict once they get to a certain level. Used in this way they end up being like Universal Traders that you can restrict to a certain area, so they're much less likely to get killed wandering around and are much easier to keep track of.
Is this as buggy as the first X3?
Is this as buggy as the first X3?
No, it runs a bit slower though.
I bought X3: Terran Conflict 2.0 for 30 bucks and it's pretty good. I got a game over by accidentally running into the side of a station while trying to dock though.
It is really hard to avoid those problems. But you have to deal with it.

First time I played X2 I tried to take out the M1 or M2 whatever it was (Argon One?), that protects Argon Prime with my M5.

Its not nearly as bad as it was in the first X3, tap a ship with your noob freighter and you spontaneously explode X3 TC is at least more merciful. Still this game has a bunch of little unpolished things that in the long run make it really repetitive after awhile

Eh? Back in Reunion I was in a Nova this one time, and undocking from a station I accidentally ploughed through some guy in a Buster who was just docking. I only lost about a quarter to a third of my shielding.
Maybe that's because I was in a fighter rather than a freighter and I obviously had the full 75MJ.
I once smashed into a superfreighter in a Nova in TC and that blew me up. I doubt the collision has changed much, if at all.
Also it can be repetitive, if you find yourself either nowhere near what you want to do or having nothing to do, but the Conflicts mod makes it pretty interesting.
Now I know my ultimate goal can be to help the Argon federation take over the universe.
Can someone link me to the X3 Reunion thread?

I always found collisions more forgiving. When ever I smack into a station at a low speed my shields will go out my but nothing happens to my hull. Its a built in safety feature so you don't die from pointless deaths maybe its removed after a certain period but Ive never rammed a station with anything more than an M3. In reunion I could never ram a freighter with My M3 without dieing now I can :v: makes from some interesting tactics.
Well if you're going to ram into something, do it at high speed.
Back in Reunion again, I was scanning some asteroids for a Bala Gi mission and accidentally rammed into an asteroid. I was going too slow and instead of bouncing off, I got stuck inside it and got slowly squashed to death.

Gotta love X3's robust physics system

All X3 chatter (Reunion or otherwise) can go here. But, for some reason you want the thread for another reason, it is here
I finally got past 1mil credits for the first time and now I'll probably get a station and the MK3 trade software. Where can I take the new plot lines from, I've made it to Earth and I know there's new plots such as Hub etc but where do I get them from.
If you see a ship called Exterminator in Omicron Lyrae with the combat mission icon that's how you start the Final Fury plot. And if you see a Goner Ozias in Elysium of Light with a mission icon, that's how you start the Goner plot.

The HUB plot = You need a high Boron rank (top 3 I think) for this one to unlock. You'll see a Advanced/Enhanced Dolphin in a random Boron sector with a mission icon next to it, and Mahi Ma as the pilot. Comm the Dolphin and the plot will begin. FYI: This plot requires you to have millions/billions of credits.
Player Headquarters plot = You must complete the HUB mission. After completing the HUB, you'll get a message a few hours later to begin the PHQ plot. You'll need some well trained Marines to complete this one.
Operation Final Fury plot = Fly to Omicron Lyrae with a high Argon rank, and look for a Argon Elite named "Exterminator", comm the ship and the plot can begin. The later parts of this plot may need a destroyer/frigate to win.
Goner plot = Fly to Elysium of Light and comm the Goner Ozias that's flying around.
Aldrin plot = You must complete the Terran Conflict, HUB, Final Fury, and Goner plot for this to begin I believe. I haven't done this one yet.
Got this yesterday, it really is an amazing game. Got myself a freighter and I'm quite happy selling Energy Cells to miners at the moment. It does take a while to get a fair bit of money though.
Selling Silicon can sometimes net a fair amount of cash. Combat missions are definitely the fastest way to riches, though.
Obviously.
Also, I found a few nice pictures from a mod for X3TC, here.
I did something very silly recently in TC, i spent in excess of over 50-60 million on a self sufficent energy complex, but the game crashes when i try to dock with it, probably because the sector it's built in is a split military sector and gets frequent visits from a split fleet. Near a hundred ships flying about an asteroid field with a huge complex inbetween is not too good for my pc.
Besides that, the complex is pretty pointless, i should have just bought an M1 or M2 class ship, considering i do more combat than trading nowadays.
If only it was possible to sell factories and complexes.
