Just self destruct it. You will get a nice little light show...
Just self destruct it. You will get a nice little light show...
Better than getting nothing back at all.
I did something very silly recently in TC, i spent in excess of over 50-60 million on a self sufficent energy complex, but the game crashes when i try to dock with it, probably because the sector it's built in is a split military sector and gets frequent visits from a split fleet. Near a hundred ships flying about an asteroid field with a huge complex inbetween is not too good for my pc. Besides that, the complex is pretty pointless, i should have just bought an M1 or M2 class ship, considering i do more combat than trading nowadays. If only it was possible to sell factories and complexes.
Well hey, now you'll make the money back quicker
Are you sure of that...?
Yeah, I just bought X3:TC last night and I have no idea what the fuck to do. Can someone link me to some guides or something? This game is confusing as hell.
Yeah, I just bought X3:TC last night and I have no idea what the fuck to do. Can someone link me to some guides or something? Download the one called X3-Handbook-v3-bookmarked.zip The bookmarked version is slightly bigger, but I highly recommend the bookmarked version over the other one as the handbook is pretty damn large, a little over 300 pages, most of which you probably won't use much until later on thankfully.
Are you sure of that...?
Well, yes, if you have a self-sufficient complex and it works then you'll earn free money off selling the goods.
I don't like completely self sufficient complexes as I like to see traffic coming and going from my complexes. I usually just make them self sufficient in everything except silicon wafers and ore, that way I'm not restricted to building them near asteroids.

But if you want to get a lot of traffic, then there's a lot of NPC attention for things like low-end shields and missiles, microchips and computer components. And weed/whisky.
Not much happening on Egosoft lately. Anyone got something interesting they got to say...?
I'm a minute away from my steam download finishing. This is going to be awesome.
Not much happening on Egosoft lately. Anyone got something interesting they got to say...?
Not really, I'm just waiting for them to actually do something about the performance issues I'm getting and release the next patch before I play. Idling in the wrong sector gets me about 12fps. The previous game on the same bloody engine ran fine so I don't see why this one is so shite for performance.
It's updated Shaders, MegaJohnny, look around for hints on how to restore the X3R shaders for a performance increase. And, ugh, modding in ships to this game is one hell of a headache >.< Wish Cycrow hadn't lost the damn source code for his ship installer -_-
I actually have that installed. Have done for ages. The performance shite really is a mystery to me.
The 2.1 patch is out.
2.1 - June 2009 New Features and Improvements - The Treasure Hunt Story Mission - A fabled, unique ship to acquire - Improved performance - New Large Crystal Fab factories - New functionality to run the game in the background, located in the gameplay options menu - Improved tractor beam tow behaviour - Improved Universal Trader - Improved mine minerals command - Added scan single asteroid command - Several script optimisations - Added sector camera button to the sector map - Improved sector camera contrast - Additional marine information in trade, freight and ship info menus - Additional ship information in shipyard and HQ menus - Reduced the number of crystals needed for the HUB repair mission - Added mission service to buy asteroid information - Several missiles rebalanced Fixes - Defend sector command fixed - Patrol command fixed - Freight transfer with multiple freight drones fixed - Fixed the unbuyable drone factories in shipyards - Fixed incorrect enemies during corporation missions - Fixed several issues in freight scan mission - Fixed several minor plot and generic mission issues - Fixed marine selection during boarding - Fixed marines being replaced by passengers after boarding pod destroyed - Fixed several Mission Director bugs - Fixed diagonal cursor movement in the sector map - Incorrect station wrecks for Xenon stations removed - Incorrect Terran station icons fixed - Fixed Argon Gladiator right missile launcher - Fixed Terran Skirnir forward missile launchers - Fixed asymmetrical turret configurations on several ships - Fixed compatible lasers for the Springblossom rear turret - Fixed several ship graphical issues - Minor improvements and bugfixes
Large Crystal fabs! Finally!
The performance boost is amazing, I've noticed MUCH less stuttering.
I didn't notice any improvement. But then again I'm pretty sure now that it's my 2GHz CPU slowing shit down. I need a better one.
I just installed this and started playing. I didn't like the first because of the lack of a tutorial, and it seems they forgot to include one this time too. It drops me into space with some objectives but no actual idea of what to do. So I figure out how to fly the ship and all that, and I go do the first objective of the terran thing, with the xenon or whatever attacking something. It turns out I have some gun that can't hit a thing? So I'm useless for that mission. It finishes and I move on and eventually end up at the second attack, where I'm faced with a ship that flies circles around me constantly landing hits, while I can barely move and maybe land 1-2 hits. I die. I have to do everything again because I didn't save and there is no autosave. So am I doing it wrong or is this the game?
I did notice a performance increase with the patch. My shield complex in Argon Prime doesn't cause my framerate to drop nearly as much as it used to. My overall framerate didn't change much, but a lot of the annoying drops are gone now.
I just installed this and started playing. Unless you're really good you won't be able to hit anything using the gunsight alone. There should be a little button in the lower left hand corner below where it shows your weapons. Make sure it's set to either "semi" or "on". Turning it to "semi" should bring up the lead indicator which will tell you where you'll need to shoot to hit a moving target. I'm assuming you started with Terran Defender, which means unless you've swapped out the guns you should have more than enough firepower. If you're starting out I recommend downloading the fan-made X3 handbook, it has a lot of useful info: http://apricotmappingservice.com/x3handbook.html

There's nothing in my cargo bay/installed extensions like that. The lead indicator is on. I landed quite a few hits, 3 of the starting missiles included, and it barely got its shield down. Then it proceeded to shoot me a few times and blow me up with a missile.

What are you trying to fight exactly? I don't recall there being any enemies early on that would be particularly difficult to kill, certainly not any that you would need missiles for.
I could always buy Large Crystal Fabs (Terran) so the new update doesn't really matter that much, although only 250,000 Crystals got me so exceited i nearly died. [editline]07:34PM[/editline] Oh, plus the ability to run the game in the background, I am playing it as I type!
It doesn't pause when you minimize? Jesus, finally.
I bought the X3 pack on steam ages ago, really liked them bt didn't get far with them, maybe the handbook will help me.
If I assign a sector trader, do I just have to give the ship the command and that's it cause every time I check it isn't doing much and is usually docked at a station on Standby.
When TC first came out, it was unplayable, Large stuttering, even when looking at nothing, but atleast in between the stutters the framerate was smooth, unless there were things on screen, especially HQ's, then single digit framerates Has it improved since then? And I'm on an old ass 2.1ghz, 2gigs Ram, X1650 Pro... Reunion runs pretty nice, but the reason TC runs so horribly with no graphical overhaul that I can see, is a mystery to me, I could understand stuttering with all the AI and scripts running, but low framerates ? When Reunion runs near flawless?

They used to be very lethargic but that was fixed in a patch. You can kick them back into action by reissuing the command. It is possible that he's run out of trade runs to do, especially if he's just in one sector.
I just installed this and started playing. Ms and Ls have annoying weaponry that hits instantly and is impossible to dodge. Not only that but the weapon happens to have ungodly shield damage. Ns are alright by comparison. They have easy-to-avoid lasers that do less damage. Autosave is there, it's just when you dock at a station. The weapons you get aren't the best hitters, especially against Ns, but they're reasonably fast and have good hull damage. Just have to follow the lead indicator as closely as you can. Also if you save up a few thousand, buy fight command software MK 1, which adds laser autoaim. If the lead indicator is near the middle of the screen it'll flash and you'll shoot at where the computer thinks will make the bullet hit. When you pull the trigger, of course. You can probably get it at places like Orbital Defense Stations or Orbital Patrol Bases. Equipment Docks of non-Terran races almost always have it as well.
I had it in Nathan's Voyage cause I thought it would do good with the silicon mines and the various fabs, but it doesn't really do much.
I'm not sure about good places near Omicron Lyrae where that sector is. Check the pilot name, the bracketed number is the experience level of the pilot. If it's 5 or more reissue the command and choose a sector, and you might get a number input. This is the range. If you put in 1, it'll work in the sector you chose and all the sectors a single jumpgate away. I'm not sure what the minimum level is for multi-sector-traders but a multi-sector trader should have lots more to get on with. If he's not high enough for that I suppose just find a better sector for him to wander around in. I don't know what's a good sector anymore.
