How does anyone even FIND mods for this game? Whenever I try to, it sends me to an X3 forum where all the mods are either down, discontinued, have asshole developers who get offended by one guy trolling it so they take it down, is up but isn't at the latest patch or works but is buggy as fuck.
Do we have some secret mod repository or something? I'd like it if someone can give direct links to both the cockpit mod and the sector wars mod. (The one where races will attack eachother's sectors based on their current relationship with one-another.)

Ah good times, now I want to play this again. . . .
Fuck, I say that too much these days. . . .

Go nuts. If you think people are mean there, don't post, don't read comments, just download the mod and play it yourself, dun like it, delete it. Simple as that.
This is the most popular cockpit mod (I just counted the number of comments for the thread)

I don't know about sector wars mod, because I can't be arsed to search for it, but improved races includes faction wars and inter-sector invasions between factions (Argon vs Split or whatever they're called and stuff like that, I think the default race relations are based on the 'lore', so Argon and Boron are allied, Teladi are neutral)
Improved Races

Also the mega overhaul mod Xtended for X3 Reunion recently was rereleased for X3TC, so might wanna check that out if you want a million more ships and weapons and sectors (199 new sectors apparently)
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=293490
Oh and I checked, all mods that I have posted are compatible with the latest patch 3.0, I can't say the same for any other mods because I only play with the cockpit mod right now.
I hope I've helped
edit: I haven't actually played Xtended for TC, and I just read that it takes place in a totally new map (new 'galaxy' or whatever), so I'm going to un-recommend that mod. I'm leaving the link incase anyone wants a new map
I seriously hope X4 will have a new mangement system. Running a trade empire and huge fleets of ships is pretty much impossible. Needs some smart management AI that you can configure.
X4? I wish. It's more than likely not going to happen. When they were making TC they said it would be end of the X trilogy. They may start another trilogy eventually but it's very, very unlikely. They did say they will probably start on another space combat/trading game, but it won't be in the X universe.
On the other hand though, I'm still not bored of TC yet. I love to build up my fleet and it's nice to see this thread bumped once in a while to see other new players.

If they ever make a sequel, I honestly don't mind it being set in a completely new universe, because I never cared for the story or setting of X, just the gameplay really
The X: Superbox is only 20$!
I already have half the games in it, but I bought it for the Encyclopedia and the two original games for my laptop :buddy:

:siren: XTC for X3: Terran Conflict is out! :siren:
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=293490
Made by the same people who worked on X3: Terran Conflict (they made the original XTM mod for Reunion, and were hired by EGOSOFT to work on TC). Whole new gate system, hundreds of new ships, entirely new weapons systems, new ship classes (mobile factories!), etc etc.
The download link is down currently due to server upload, but there's a torrent on the thread somewhere.

Second post.
It's the repository of all the X3:TC mods and scripts, maintained by the forum moderators. Almost all of them are compatible with the current mod version and are available for download
Holy fucking dick that looks crazy. My motivation for this game pretty much dived once I hit the HUB plot so it might be time to start again with some mods maybe.
I've only played a bit of X2 and X3.
I wish X was more like Freelancer and Freelancer was more like X.
Just started playing the XTC (Xtended) mod on X3: Terran Conflicted; it's amazing. It's pretty much X4. Amazing soundtrack and very high quality ships and sectors.

I would love to add on XTC, but I've heard saves from it will not be compatible with the 2.0 release.

The current XTC 1.0 saves won't be compatible with XTC 2.0 saves, yeah.
But the 2.0 release is like 6 months away, and you can always cheat in your old stuff with a script when you restart in 2.0; your game is already " ***modified*** " and unable to get achievements when you play XTC, so nothing is lost when you cheat in your stuff.

holy shit goddamn fuck me
I really, really want Terran Conflict now but then I realize it's twice the price of vanilla X3, which I already own, and I get tired of the X games relatively quickly owing to my utter lack of patience.
Downloading now.
I'm considering whether to buy this, but I need to ask a few questions first.
I know i'll get past the learning curve but is there anything more to this game than ferrying goods around to get money? Is there any sort of exploration? What is your favourite aspect of these games?
I've looked at this game multiple times over a while but it always seems to be: "That looks awesome but is it just a spreadsheet in disguise?"
^Exploration is nice, the universe is quite pretty, but there really isn't that much point to exploring, so unless you're the kind of guy who can just stare at a nice photo for a couple of hours exploring is meh.
Trading is the most basic form of getting money, you can eventually set up automated ships to trade for you while you do funner stuff so you don't have to ferry goods around.
Combat is quite fun, choosing a ship and weapons that suit your playstyle (slow weapons platform with heavy shields or fast glass cannon, etc). Once you get rich you can get carriers and have fleets with literally as many ships as you can afford, but commanding tons of ships can be very micro intensive due to the command menus not being very simple to navigate quickly.
I never even started any of X3:R and TC's storylines or side plots, and I find the game to be enough already I guess.
The funnest part for me is probably hunting down pirates across the galaxy in a fast-ish M3 Mamba, shields aren't great for its class, but it is very fast and can carry some heavy guns.
I normally get a couple of factories running with some cargo ships (mercuries I think) supplying them with the goods to keep them running and some to sell their produce off and have them run automatically, so I can hunt pirates without bothering with trade. Of course manual trading is ALWAYS more profitable than automated, especially if you know the economy well and good selling/buying spots, but automatic trade is a good supplement to it, and provides more than enough money for me.
As for being a spreadsheet in disguise, I haven't seen a single chart or spreadsheet on this game before, never needed one. Trade is really just buy low, look around for somewhere to sell high, done. Profit margin calculation on factories probably needs spreadsheets, but there are a couple of calculators out there to do that for you, and it really isn't necessary to calculate it unless you want to be super efficient.
I rarely ever command a fleet in combat though, normally it's just me, purely because I don't want to spend that much money outfitting ships though, and weapons factories require a quite large starting investment to get running, which I can't afford due to my reliance on only one factory complex (space fuel, and some other illegal good), which sells well enough for early game, but I would need more for late game.
Oh and if you need objectives, there are tons of generic repeatable missions (escort X, kill Y, find Z, etc...) and also plenty of actual missions with plots (none of which I have bothered with as stated above), which give some very nice rewards from what I hear.
/essay on X3 gameplay
How did you get enough money to get a Space Fuel factory?
I've been trading energy cells and ore and I've barely made it past 100k.
How did you get enough money to get a Space Fuel factory?

Trade space fuel (from the stills in herron's nebula), silicon makes a shitload too, ore is okay, once you get about 500k, start buying and selling weapons too, trading weapons from argon space to paranid space is quite lucrative.
Oh and dump satellites in every goddamn sector with any factories at all. Advanced is not needed, as any satellite in the sector will allow you to check all factories in the sector for prices.
Buy low, sell high obviously.
Don't be afraid to pick up another mercury or other TS if you feel you're missing out on deals because of limited cargo space or slow speed.
Get a jumpdrive too, that is awesome for stealing awesome bargains before the AI get there.
Space fuel from the still you can buy for like less than 600, and you can sell it at all normal trade stations for like 1.2k each. That's a MASSIVE profit. Only issue is it's illegal, just don't go close to patrol ships and you'll be fine. Silicon has a similar profit potential, but it is legal to carry, but with space fuel it is almost possible to keep buying and selling it endlessly, silicon eventually gets saturated, space fuel doesn't.
I don't use Universal or Sector traders much because they tend to die on me, but I hear getting them running on soya husks and shit in Paranid land is okay to start with. Food trading generally has a shitty profit margin though.
Remember, weapons and shields are the biggest money makers ever. The cloudbase south-east sector I think in argon land has some factories, check those to see if they are full, then grab some of their guns and pop back down to paranid prime to sell your shit at an equipment dock (the only place that will buy your guns), paranid prime and its nearby sectors also have tons of weapon factories, check those and take them back to argon land to sell. By importing and exporting inter-race, you gain race relation too, so if you want race relation points, sell your weapons to the race you want to be friends with. Paranid's are right under argon's so that's just what I chose for convenience. I honestly prefer split, but I am not familiar with Split territory so I can't say anything about trading with them.
If you can't dock with Paranid's yet, shoot up some pirates in that 'priest's something' sector east of paranid prime, and it will get you race relation points to allow docking.
Eventually you'll get enough for a space fuel M plant, stick it in that sector east of the space graveyard east of argon prime, and give it either some TS's to buy supplies for it, and some starting capital, or just supply it with the ecells and stuff yourself. You won't need to find buyers, they will come to you. You'll find that in that sector, if you place it somewhere discrete (like west of the west gate, or just off the main trade lane), cops won't come after your plant (because space fuel is illegal). Also that sector is apparently so good that you can put down like 5 space fuel L plants without saturating the economy, buyers will still be unloading your stocks as soon as you produce anything.
Once you're rich enough, you can set up more space fuel plants into a complex in the same sector, and eventually get it into a closed loop complex (manufactures it's own resources so it can run forever for free, generating pure profit) if you want, but closed loops are VERY expensive, and I have never gotten far enough to afford one.
Oh and neat trick if you're a dickhead, get a police license, and cargo scanner, and scan cargo of anyone that recently bought from your space fuel plant. If they have any space fuel or other illegal goods, ask them to surrender it. Then they'll either give it up and you can resell it again (hehehe), or they'll turn hostile and you can blast them to pieces, and then take the cargo and resell it. Of course if you do this to non-pirates, you lose race relations with that race, but you will gain relation with Argon
By the way, I've never gotten much further than this in the game, the most I have ever hoarded is like 15 million or something, with probably 2-3 million in factories and another few million for my mamba raider.
Oh and a dangerous but lucrative way of making money is pirates. Just hunt them, taking out any groups you can handle (probably run from anyone with a tail gun if you are still early game and only have like 100k), and sometimes they will bail out of their ships, you can take the ship and sell it for thousands (an m4 pirate ship on average will net you like 20k or something depending on it's damage), or you can reoutfit it for yourself, as pirates often have ship variants unavailable on the market. Try not to take on M3's at this point, or even the super-M4's (I can't remember their names, but they are the new M4's to TC which weren't in X3:reunion), because they can rape you unless you are good at dodging ships that are faster and stronger than you. M5's and most M4's won't be a problem. The only M3 you should fight is the Falcon (I think that's what it's called, it's the long penis ship), it has no tailgun and is slow, so just get on it's tail and fire away till it dies, might take a while, but if you get one to bail, that's an instant few hundred thousand, and if you get the guns off of it, they are worth heaps.
I would go for fast ships for combat at this stage, split ships are perfect for this, their m4 (the scorpion) has some very nice guns and speed close to an m5, but they lack the shields so you have to use your speed. Argon ships are mediocre, they have good tanks, but they aren't fast enough for me. Of course this realy depends on your playstyle, you might want to play with a heavy as fuck tank that can take the damage and dish it out too, but I like being fast enough to run circles around an enemy and just sitting on his tail blasting away without having to worry about getting shot. This is probably why I can't take tail gunners yet.
Of course if you spend millions on combat equipment, that's millions you won't have to set up your factories.
Oh and manually buying and selling goods is always more profitable than automated trading or factories by a long shot, stick with that for as long as you can be bothered.
Jesus I have like 3 text walls on this page

I hope X4 gets rid of the sector system as it's been implemented.
I hate how every sector is basiaclly just a heap of space stations and asteroids in empty space (some with nebula effects) and a skybox. I want to actually fly around planets, through systems, etc. Maybe not to the extent of infinity or something, but make it like the Solar System in TC, except instead of just using skybox's make them actual planets.
My inner explorer hates that the universe in X3 is comprised of small 100km x 100km sectors that are all connected with very inorganic warp gates at the NSEW locations in the sector... they almost never utilize the 3D space that space offers. Not to mention 99% of the sector objects are all layed out on an XY 2D grid, with very slight variation on the Z axis.

This would be nice, but I dunno, seems like we only ever get massive seamless environments in indie games. I can live with the sectors, but I do agree that it does seem very unnatural and the fact that only less than like 5% of the actual space ingame is used is kinda lame
I remade my desktop to feel more spacey. After that, I had some mad snacks, yo.

I think they should make it something like EVE's universe, that feels really open and is always awe inspiring to be in and look at. Too bad I don't really like the game itself.

I've flown into the planets and died before, it's just that despite taking up most of the screen when you look at them they're still fucking ages away.
Just bought the X Superbox Yesterday so the first thing I install for Terran conflict, Other than the Plugin manager?

Yeah you just blow up entering atmosphere, except for Aldrin because that's just some fucking huge asteroid.
Yeah the planets aren't just pictures, they're some 3D Models or something, you can go around them.
Also, playing with KB+Mouse is easier than with joystick, in my opinion.
