This is bugged. I attacked a pirate ship that took me 3 min to destroy by hitting it constantly. I managed to do it because it has no weapons . Then I attacked the other enemies that where ignoring me while I was destroying their mate. They were so fast I could'nt even reach them for like 10 minutes. Then one of them randomly attacked me and destroyed my ass . WTF ?
I played X2 The Threat before, never beat it or anything but I got the hang of it quite well. Having said that, what would you guys say about the transition to X3? How hard is it to get things going.
There seems to be some issues with how the game uses memory which results in lots of lag and unnecessary stops and pauses when it has to access the hard drive constantly during combat.
If you think this is happening to you and if you have Vista you can plug in a USB flash drive and use it as a ReadyBoost device and that should work as a temporary fix for now.
(*gasp* ReadyBoost is actually making itself useful!)
[sp]On the Eyes and Ears level of the Terran Campaign, how do you pick up Captain Pearle? I keep docking at the Orbital Defence Station in the Asteroid Belt but cannot seem to pick him up. I really don't want to revert to my earlier save because it's before that horrible infiltration mission[/sp]
Got a Cargo Life Support system installed? He can't get in without it. Once you install it and dock he will enter your ship.

Thanks for the help, stuck at another part now.

I am regularly making two mil off patrol missions in my nova vanguard.
Packing four repeaters and four plasma throwers and I can take out centaurs, ospreys, and shitloads of xenon Ps on a patrol, and you get about three hundred thousand added to your paycheck for each.
The repeaters also decimate m5s and m4s, so I can get three thousand per kill with those and usually kill them at a rate of one a second.
I've got half of a free energy complex up in president's end, just need a power plant and a cattle ranch to finish it off, then I can save up and buy a Heavy Centaur, which has the same 160km/h top speed as my nova but has firepower more like a battleship, plus it looks absolutely gorgeous.
I also heartily recommend mistral freighters from OTAS, they're cheap, they look good, have four gun turrets, and are pretty fast for a freighter, I'd use them more often but I have to jump them in from legend's home every time I want a new one and that's a bit expensive.
The missions are a vast improvement because you can make loads of money off them, and they are a good challenge most of the time too.
I have to say that the transition from X3: Reunion is actually far easier than I thought. The only real hiccups I can say there's been have been down to getting used to the new layout and appearance of the menu's.
Otherwise? I'll happily support X3:TC. It is one beast of a game. I haven't yet had any issues with it performance wise with all the settings at their maximum, although I did grab the patch before even playing it the first time, so that may well have cleared up some of the issues people have been having.
The game so far (several hours into the first start choice) has been entertaining, I won't pretend I was a little miffed at having to start out mind numbingly doing a "Go here, kill things" style mission but I can understand it being a easy learning curve into the X3 universe. Things are heating up and I'm enjoying the campaign so far.
The limitations on some of the vessels for the weapons made me quite happy too, for example the Terran side refuse to use anything other than Terran weaponry on their ships, meaning they're restricted to only 3 different missiles but they do pack some incredible main weaponry that I'm certainly not complaining about.
I did have a laugh at how the Xtended mod team have influenced things, hands down they made a good dent in X3:TC's appearance, for example some Terran vessels and the OTAS to say the least.
I can't wait to try some of the other campaign trees to see where things go, just to see the fresh perspectives on things.
What's a repeater?

Aye, this bit seems to be broken, the station won't accept him. Go do some missions and wait for it to get fixed in an update.
Makes me wonder if they even test games anymore.

Terran Cutlass M3 is an absolute beast. 173m/s top speed, 4 forward EMPCs and 2 in each of the 2 turrets. You can fly right at corvettes with it's 150mj shielding and the 4 EMPCs plus the 2 in the forward turret will kill it by the time you get there.
can someone explain the different classes of ships? what is a M1, M2...etc etc.?
M1 is a Carrier
M2 is a Destroyer
M3 is the Heavy Fighter
M4 is a Fighter
M5 is a Scout
M6 is a Corvette
TL is a Large Transport
TP is a Passenger Transport
TS is just a transport (Like the Mercuries)
There are some new ones in Terran Conflict though, like Missile Frigates
Has anyone got through the story yet and tell me how good it is?
Also what is the best Starter profile to chose for a guy who played X3R?

Don't forget the M0 planet destroyer.
What's a repeater?
Phased Repeater Gun.
It's sort of half way between an IRE and a PBE, or possibly between a PAC and a PBE.
Basically it shoots really fast and with decent damage, but it's got slower projectiles than a PBE, but you can use it on more ships, most argon ships will mount one so it's a very useful weapon.
Is this classed as an expansion or stand-alone?
I've got X3: Reunion sitting on my shelf, and all this talk (and screenshots) have got my fingers tingeling. Perhaps it's time to upgrade my system.
It's stand-alone, Same Universe, new everything else
Some ships are re-used and whatnot (Seriously, how much better could they possibly get anyway from Reunion, they were fantastic) But plenty of new ones, stations, sectors, stories, campaigns, everything
Completely different game

Also
M7 is a frigate (between m6 and m2)
M'8 is a bomber (I haven't seen that many but they mostly use big fucking missiles - the only lasers they have is a rear turret)
TM is like a dropship, it can carry fighters in it but is about as big as a TS or TP
M3+ is an M3 but better
M4+ is an M4 but better
M7M according to the manual is a 'missile frigate; substituting missile batteries for guns'
Also this game is facking good. I got about 1.4-1.5mil from missions now, should I get an Elite, a Scimitar or a pair of autotraders?
Edit:
Also also I need to get me a new processor, this game lags considerably more than Reunion. I think. They should have put the OOS calculations on a second core if it was available.
thanks guys i've been confused on whats what, since reunion.
Also this game is facking good. I got about 1.4-1.5mil from missions now, should I get an Elite, a Scimitar or a pair of autotraders?
Get the auto-traders, keep them in the safer sectors (Argon/Paranid space is generally a safe bet) and they can really earn you some good money, constantly, and stabilise small sectors of the economy (as much as can be done without you putting in cash to build stations)
I think I'll probably get a single autotrader, then save up for a better ship. The Sabre's a really nice M4, but it's an M4. And that means it dies fast.
Also has anyone worked out the statistic convention in Terran ships yet?
Holy shit that looks awesome!
How is this compared to the original X3? I was going to buy this but bought SR2 instead...

It's a lot more polished and easier to get into. Rather than wandering around stations and looking at the BBS whenever you want a mission, ships and stations that have a job that needs doing will have an icon outside their brackets. Then you just comm them and ask what they have. Missions are also a lot more abundant, and have a difficulty rating in the briefing.
There's a My Missions panel you can use, which lists the up to 5 missions you can have running simultaneously. Much better than the shitty video you got in Reunion.
There's much better bounty payout for pirates and Xenon and whatever.
That's as well as the obvious stuff, like new sectors, new ships and classes, etc.
What's SR2, by the way?

Sounds good, and Saints Row 2.
Bah. I can't find this bloody MK3 anywhere, I don't think PTNI HQ has it either. The sector, I mean. Anyone know a place to get the software near our system?

I -distinctly- remember being able to buy Trader Software MK3 in PTNI Headquarters. Look either at the NNMT HQ, or at the Teladi Equipment Dock there.
I checked the prices using the Trading System extension and I can't see trade MK3 on either of those stations. I thought wherever you found Teladi, you found that software too. Strange. Maybe Grand Exchange will be more fruitful, or maybe I just have to dock at the EQ dock to see it for some reason.
Also haha, I accepted a Very Hard Xenon patrol mission, which saw the end of the local Titan. I ran away to Treasure Chest til they'd died down, and eventually I was given my measly 93K (no kills bonus). Now the remaining screenful of Xenon is gangraping an invincible M4.

I never tried XTM past getting to Farnham's lengend and ragedeleting because the pirates were complete dicks.
I agree with the easier learning curve. I was surprised to find that I got 3 free M5s to play with in the next mission. 2 survived the Xenon fight afterwards. I sold one and took its weapon, then repaired the other and I'm now going to use it as an explorer ship. What kind of commands do you get in the Explorer Software? I can't see any fly through gate remote command on any software.
I fucking hate the starting ship. Pile of shit. Don't think I'll be able to do one patrol unless I buy something with bigger shields and better guns.
Trouble is..finding a way to make that sort of money and getting enough recognition to be allowed to buy a damn ship.

In the Explorer software, you get the command to Fly Through Gate and Explore Sector I think. The ship can't be part of a wing though when you set the command.
I got like the worst patrol mission ever. It said it was easy and it gave around 50k credits, but when i tried to do it i saw first 1 wave of 10 pirates that were relativly weak, but they all got missiles that one hit kills my ship and when i finnaly managed to kill those I saw 20 other ships coming, and when I after several retries killed them I saw 10 yaki ships coming. All of them had the missiles and they always used them RIGHT when I was next to them so it was almost impossible to either avoid or shoot.
