Well, I recently started, and played 40 minutes so far. Didn't start a serious save yet, but this looks like the kind of game that is hard to get in, but then it sucks you in and you won't get out.
I've always thought you got screwed over too easily if your shields went down in X. Your ship slows down, you start losing equipment, and in most cases it lasts a lot less long than shields when shot with the same weapon. It'd be nice if some of this was changed in Rebirth, so that both hull and shields are relevant in a fight.
Yeah, once your shields are down you're pretty much fucked.
Alright, so would it be wise to start as humble merchant, sell your trade ship, with the money you got max out the defenses, attack and engines of your discoverer and turn to piracy?
Ah, well on the military side I am not so good, but, just for future reference for when I do have good stuff, how do I DISCOVER the khaak sectors?
You have to start the [sp]Operation Final Fury plotline[/sp], continue nearly to the end of it and you can then go to them. I don't recommend you mining there. Seriously. The best place to mine at is Kingdom's End. I managed to find the topic on the Egosoft forums about Nvidium mining. I'd remembered about Kingdom's End before, but this topic reconfirmed it for me.
Once you visit Siezewell you'll never want to leave. It's soooooo preeeeetttyy and the music for that sector is one of the best tracks

Loadsofcontrols made you quit?
You should see his antics in the eve thread [editline]4th July 2011[/editline]
Alright, so would it be wise to start as humble merchant, sell your trade ship, with the money you got max out the defenses, attack and engines of your discoverer and turn to piracy?
Yes, although it's gonna be a bitch to take out pirates at first. I recommend going over to elona's fortune (east of president's end, which is east of home of light, which is south of argon prime) and checking around there for pirates. Try to take on some M5s, maybe some M4s. Once you capture an M4 (any of em really), use that. It'll be so much more forgiving.
Yarr lets do this. The next OP also should contain this map: http://eng.x3tc.ru/x3_tc_map/
Is it normal that this totally feels like boring grinding that is NOT fun? [editline]5th July 2011[/editline] Fuck this shit, I'll buy a jumpdrive and start pirating in hopes the pilot ejects :v:

Oh shit I'm in so much trouble. So started my first playthrough as the human defender chick, was doing just fine. Suddenly some pirates warp from a jumpgate I was about to take. With my natural talent for flying (:v:) I manage to take all 4 out, and then a glorious moment: I claim my first ship. So I thought I'd send it to the station I usually resupply on and would strip and sell it later. When it warped into the station's sector I was just messing around in the My Property screen, when I notice the cargo bay was full. It was full of weed. And I sent it to a military station. I'm screwed :suicide:
Why weren't you doing this in the first place
I dunno, thought mining would be good for starting until I noticed that you can only get cash from Nividium
You can use your mouse to do everything in TC anyway, I just press m to open up the sector map and then mouse click on what I want to do at the stations or go in space by double clicking an empty sector.
I was exploring the space, and I entered Kingdom's End My jaw dropped And also, skip to 2:08 This game has awesome soundtrack.

I just noticed the new media player

Once you're in the habit of using the keyboard shortcuts you can fly through the interface. But you do of course have to get those habits.

The X series has some of the best ambience music in a game. Visit Siezewell! You can get to Siezewell by Going to Kingdom's End, then hit the East gates until you reach Teladi Gain, the go south until you hit Siezewell. 6 Jumps total from Kingdom's End

Good god this game is addicting as heck. The only downside I can tell so far is that my joystick's throttle interferes with the SETA, thus I can't fly at any speed other then full/no throttle whilst using SETA. It was a pretty harsh lesson, as I had to spend 45 minutes following a guy for that mission (why the fuck was he going 58 anyway?) to just get ambushed by some random npcs in the end. Rage ensued which was quickly calmed when I found an other thing to do.
Just turn your throttle's (Z-Axis usually) sensitivity down and it should stop disrupting SETA. That's what I had to do on mine.
Yep. The X series has some of the best ambience music in a game. Visit Siezewell!
Agreed, I would class it as being on par with the Metal Gear's soundtrack. You seem to have a bit of an obsession with Seizewell's music... I beg to differ(Not saying I don't like it though), I prefer the music in the solar system. I also like the HUB's soundtrack. Don't you just love ambushing Terran ships in the HUB. By the way, don't know whether anyone knew about this, but Egosoft have allowed the X Encyclopedia to be downloaded from their site without having to buy the X Superbox(They haven't updated the text in the description, you can still downlod it). The moderators said to take advantage of it now in case they decide to withdraw the offer. You can download it from their site here, you might also notice that you can download the X Superbox Trailer theme as well. More official screenshots of X Rebirth have been released, sorry about the large resolution.
On another note I really like the feeling of scale they managed to give you, for instance when I fly my Sabre the stations look rather small from a distance but I'm a mere fly to them when I'm close. And then in my space suit I'm like a bacteria to any bigger station. its amazing
I absolutely hate Terran stations, they are just too big.
Does taking abandoned pirate ships cause everything to hate you suddenly?
are there any mods that decrease the long assed load times?
I absolutely hate Terran stations, they are just too big.
Terrans LOVE building huge stuff (Torus, Valhalla, etc.) That's why they are my favorite faction.
Does taking abandoned pirate ships cause everything to hate you suddenly?
Not as far as I know. I should say though, that scanning ANY ship(This includes Xenon, Khaak, Pirate, and Yaki) in a sector owned by the races that you have relations with without a police license will cause you to lose reputation and can cause the police to come after you IIRC. I can't remember exactly whether the police come after you because it's been while since I've been without a license.
