I fucking hate the starting ship. Pile of shit. Don't think I'll be able to do one patrol unless I buy something with bigger shields and better guns. Trouble is..finding a way to make that sort of money and getting enough recognition to be allowed to buy a damn ship.
The starting Terran ship (the Sabre) is actually really good. The two EMPCs can destroy anything from an M6 and down (M6, MEight, M3, M4, M5). Be sure to make copious use of any M4's maneuverability to dodge the shots that larger ships like to use.

I'm rolling and turning but the fuckers still get me. Then a few blasts from their cannon and I'm dead. I have upgraded my ship speed and rudder to max. Another 2 of those weapons would be helpful but not respected enough yet for Terran to sell me them. :( It's the first patrol mission that you command where you get 4 Rapiers or something but they're damn slow. :)

I made about 6 mil from rewards and capping ships. Then I did that mission with a small fleet and brisked through it. The main fun in this game for me is the random missions and such, the plot seems quite dull.
Yeah, second try at the thing I've given up already. I know it said some missions will require greater resources in the manual, I didn't think it meant straight away. I might try doing what you did and just going to find the nearest 'easy' job. You think they'll let me take the 4 free rapiers and leave the patrol group there waiting for me? :D

Also I think you start with 20MJ of shielding, but the ship has room for another 5MJ. They're only 20K, so it's a good idea to invest in another one. You can never be too well protected in the X universe.

Ok this is retarded. I accepted some mission to find a ship in cloudbase southwest and return it to argon prime. I go to cloudbase southwest and claim the ship, then I order it to fly to argon prime. Unfortunately for some retarded reason I'm supposed to magically make it go faster so that it gets there before I run out of time, the only two ways of doing this being to either sit for five minutes with my finger on the mouse until the repair laser heals it, or send it to a shipyard, of course the nearest shipyard is two sectors away in any direction so even then I'd be cutting it close. But of course I didn't expect the ship to be incapable of reaching argon prime within the one hour time limit I had for the mission, and by the time I got the failure message I'd already overwritten my autosaves. This wouldn't be a problem if it wasn't for the fact that when you fail the mission, the retards assume you've stolen the ship (even though it was in the fucking sector when they failed me) and this makes all the police turn hostile to you. So the police proceed to blow up about six of my satellites and then some retard in a cerberus decides to try and blow up my huge factory complex in president's end. The rest of the argon are friendly to me and I'm the highest rank possible but this pillock just keeps blowing up my factory, even aborting the mission before it fails doesn't stop them from turning hostile so once you accept these missions you're basically fucked, telling him to stand down doesn't work so the only solution I have is the script editor, but I can't figure out how to open the damn thing once I've unlocked it because the control it's bound to doesn't do anything. This is a serious issue and you'd think they would have fixed it before release, you can't even destroy the cerberus (even if I wasn't flying a nova) because that makes everyone else hostile. So now my game is broken basically and because X3 makes you sit there doing shite all for most of the game (I've read two books in two days thus far, whilst playing the game) that means I either need to find some way of making up for egosoft's incompetence or start a new game, and waste another two days getting back to where I am. I would appreciate a set of instructions as to the commands I need to remove specific ships from the game, or to set all argon ships to friendly, or whatever. Also this appears to have removed my ability to carry a police license in argon territory.
Snip
Have you tried getting a bigger ship which can carry other craft, telling the new craft to dock in your carrier and then making your way to where you need to be, eventually undocking the other craft when you get there? Or is the craft you have to fetch just too big to do that?

I might be able to do that but it would be just as expensive as jumping them, if not moreso. I actually managed to fly the last one through the pirate sectors, pirate activity is not terribly high and I got kind of lucky. Besides, now I have the power plants installed I don't need to supply anything, and the space fuel walks out the door as soon as it's made.
Ah so those Rapiers are mine permanently? SELL SELL SELL!
Yep. I kept one of the kitted out Rapiers, (sold the shitty 1MJ one you get right at the start) to use as an explorer.
I got like the worst patrol mission ever. It said it was easy and it gave around 50k credits, but when i tried to do it i saw first 1 wave of 10 pirates that were relativly weak, but they all got missiles that one hit kills my ship and when i finnaly managed to kill those I saw 20 other ships coming, and when I after several retries killed them I saw 10 yaki ships coming. All of them had the missiles and they always used them RIGHT when I was next to them so it was almost impossible to either avoid or shoot.
I haven't played TC yet, but if the AI is anything like Reunion, don't do the head-on attacking stuff, try to stay on their tail. Their AI isn't used to that.
I took a patrol in ore belt once and so many xenon showed up that the whole sector was full of them. I had to bail out after about 2 million credits worth of kills, used a jump drive and just scraped through with about 20% hull health. Eventually the military cleared out the sector but it was like a xenon sector for a while. By the way what ship are you flying? I don't find missiles much of a problem in my nova, partly because of the rear turret and partly because they don't do much damage most of the time.
Urgh, why when I accidently click 'auto pilot attack' does it instantly make everyone hostile towards me when I have neither made a threatening comm attempt or fired upon the ship. It's fucking annoying. Should only make the fuckers hostile if you attack them, it's so close to the other button and random game freezes don't help. It's like the thought police are watching me or something.
Well, I bought it today, installing now :v: Bloody Hell it's taking a long time to install, 50% or thereabouts in 24 minutes.

Ah okay. Well..definitions of mission difficulty are awefully bullshit. Took on an easy patrol mission to find myself being arse raped by 20 odd Xenon ships, the small fast ones don't do much damage on their own in 2's or 3's but they're annoying to try and hit and then the L ships come along and are insanly accurate just taking out my shields and as soon as my hull takes the slightest damage, I lose engine speed and become and easier target to hit. I want a bigger ship. :(

The bomber that it sends is hardly a threat to you or the station - the missiles it packs does about a 10th of shield damage to the station and are much too slow to home in on you. The only defense it has is a shitty rear turret that's easy to avoid anyway. The toughest thing is probably the Corvette you sometimes get, so if you get one, leave that for last. Do bombing runs on it, strafing constantly, and it isn't that hard to kill one.
Hm some of the new ships kinda suck :/ What's with them all being slow, having not many guns and no hangars at all. For example the one you get when you finish the terran plot. (forgot the name) It has good shields, is big and slow and only has ONE turret (Missiles as main gun). What the fuck? Am i supposed to use slow and ineffective missiles that are also expensive? And it Doesn't even have a hangar to make up for it or anything. In other words, i want a ship like the hyperion back. Average speed, good shields and weapons and 2 hangars. /rant So, anyone know how i can do additional missions after finishing the terran plot?

Although personally I find ospreys harder because they're tougher, and I have to spend more time dodging to kill them. But the xenon are a pain because their lasers are super fast. Personally I think they're kind of useless as the only way you'd ever get them near a capital ship is to send about five of them and for that money you could just buy some PPCs. The frigates however are quite good, kind of like mini-destroyers, and if you get the enhanced or prototype versions they are faster.
Trust me, after playing Battlecruiser Millenium and Universal Combat, X3 is piss easy, BCM and UC had a learning curve near vertical.
It was less of a curve, more a wall popping up infront of you. I remember pressing a button on BCM and then some alarm going off and my ship exploding. Anyway, I've only just got X2 and it is relatively confusing and tedious. I hope this one's a bit more exciting, but I'll have to see once I get a computer that can actually run it.

What i am still looking for is just the allrounder, something like the hyperion in x3:r. Right now i am using a sabre, but it's too slow (not moving too slow, but not manouvrable enough to make up for the lack of shielding), doesn't have enough shielding or cargobay and of course no hangars.

I just don't think they're tough or powerful enough to make competent fighters. The Sabre is tougher, faster AND more powerful (in terms of laser battery and recharge) than the average M4. I found the starting Buster in Reunion absolutely abysmal. It seems the only real flaw with Terran ships is that they can only mount the Terran range of weaponry, which at the fighter level seems to be very potent indeed, but is very difficult to hit an M5, I find. Has anyone tried the Elite yet, what's it like as a personal ship? I can't decide between an Elite, a Scimitar (once I get the facking rank for it, not that I have the slightest idea how to do that in such a Pirate-free zone) or a Nova.
So is money easier to attain in fights? It sounds like Egosoft have increased the bounties on pirates, which is good seeing as I couldn't find many invading enemies in X3.
Meh, I'm stuck halfway in an 'easy' patrol mission. I docked at the fucking station because there's too damn many lol. I either suck at this game in regards to fighting or it's just those ships are better than mine. At least I got a bit of credit after killing around 10 and my Teladi Enforcement license. Still another 20 out there waiting for me. :( Well..got rid of the nuisance things. Now this mission wants me to fly into and patrol a Xenon sector??? Are you kidding me? I saw several fucking HUGE ships flying around in there...there's no fucking way! Eep, Xenon K destroyer..
The difficulty ... Is very unbalanced. Damn pirates.
Playing the first gamestart (Terran) I noticed a strange unbalancing issue as well- [sp]in the mission where you must escort the transport, as you hear over the radio that a ship has broken through the blockade, instead of having just a couple of enemies appear, a whole freaking Xenon K destroyer just appeared. Right underneath my bloody ship.[/sp] I wouldn't have minded so much as the local forces were going to pitch in to help so i'd get away unharmed, but because the in-game cinematic is unskippable and just kept focusing on it while they babbled on it managed to get a few shots on me and annihilate me before I had a chance to even wet myself. Also had a few bugs such as the [sp]delivery mission where you have to ship 200 Teladianium to that Argon sector- unless you complete the mission beforehand in a ship capable of hauling that much cargo it won't tag you as being allowed there and so a Colossus, a few Centaurs and numerous fighter craft will happily shred your anus in many painful ways before you're even docked, let alone picking up the spacesuits minutes later.[/sp] Still fun as hell though if you can work around the bugs.
See..when that happened, I was following the transport and didn't see one Xenon ship.
Bleh, I stopped playing this pretty sharpish, seems like every single time I play it crashes.
Bleh, I stopped playing this pretty sharpish, seems like every single time I play it crashes.
Have you tried patching it up to the latest version and/or changing some settings? What kind of rig are you running? I'm a little surprised the amount of problems some people seem to have been having with it- I'm just thankful I haven't had any problems bar one- the video works when I get called in game, but the sound decides not to play. Just thankful that the damned mission log gives me a good idea what to do otherwise I'd be screwed.
I'm running a slightly better one than I was X3 Reunion :v: and yeah it's patched. AMD Athlon X2 4600+ 2GB RAM 9600GT 512MB I'll just wait for more patches see if that helps in the future.
