Is it lag as in lower framerate or is it lag as in the game pauses for a moment and accesses the hard drive?
Try turning your textures to medium. Supposedly there's a problem with some of the textures causing the game to access the hard drive excessively. Even some with 4GB of RAM have been getting this.
If you want to help out you can go to the Egosoft forums and post your DX Diag and that might help them sort out the problem.
It's lower framerate, it's not because of the textures, it's the big awesome models.
I have a laptop with 1,6 GHz core2due or something, 2 gb ram and ati x1300 gfx card:P
It runs at 50-60 fps in all sectors without terran sized stations at high on shader/textures and no antialiasing with 1280x768.
Too bad the engine don't support multicore:weed:

It's probably just that. The Terran Stations, I've been hearing some people on certain GF Cards have been having issues with performance and stability when there are Terran Stations around... Although I don't see how they could do anything that other stations wouldn't do since they are just like any other station... Maybe just a lot higher poly counts putting the engine to it's limits... especially yours since you're basically running it all on a 1.6ghz single core, I bet a near future patch addresses the issue, I know you aren't on a GF card but hey it's an idea
I sometimes swing the ship around to test the framerate, and I think Argon Trading Stations are pretty laggy.

Yeah, I thought that was a shame.
They could have at least put the calculations for other sectors on other cores, surely that wouldn't be too hard to do.
It probably would by now since the game's already out, and it would probably mean modding the engine itself.
I'm rather annoyed that nobody has come up with a no-cd crack yet.
Why is that, doesn't your cd work?
Why is that, doesn't your cd work?
Well I don't think they sell boxed copies here in America, only on Steam, and going through steam for a single player game is annoying, but no big deal If there's no way around it anyway
Yeah, I've got no problem with Steam. Once you have the game downloaded and you've already bought it, you can still play everything in offline mode.
Why is that, doesn't your cd work?
Works fine, I just hate swapping CDs whenever I play different games. I get cracks for everything I buy. Of course by "Buy" I mean, "Borrow from a friend or have a friend burn for me"...

I don't get cracks, but I also find it annoying that many games need the CD in to play.

Eventually egosoft will probably release an update that means the cd is no longer required, like they did with Reunion.
The security is probably just to keep release piracy down but releasing it only in Europe was a bad move in my opinion because now all of the people who don't like STEAM and are in North America will either pirate it, not buy it or get it shipped over. Also how is X3:TC is it worth the $40 off STEAM?

They didn't really have much of a choice in the matter. They couldn't find a US publisher that wanted to distribute this game.
US video game publishers just aren't interested in niche market games these days.
Wait, so you can't buy this off steam if you live in the US?
Wait, so you can't buy this off steam if you live in the US?
What made you get that idea?
Of course you can buy it off steam in the US.
Steam is really the only method of distribution for this game in the US.
I understand why they didn't release it in the US except for over STEAM but I still think it was a bad idea.
I wonder why they couldn't find a publisher... It's a better game than 70% of the ones that are pushed out today
Those Duke's Hazardous Material Transporters are cool beans. Free super freighter, shields intact. Another ST for the fleet.
I'm glad I decided to get X3 :)
Though I was happily minding my own business, following TheTalon's guide to making some cash in Ore Belt, when this happened:

As I was leaving, the Kha'ak had destroyed the local defense force, the Solar power plant, and were attacking the Trading Station - I'm just glad they didn't come for my slow, weaponless Mercury and escort!
Got myself a Terran Carrier called the Tokyo, it's frigging sweeeeet.
Armed to the teeth and room for 50 fighters. Had to get the M.a.r.s mod for the turrets though other wise I'd just end up getting a shit reputation from the shitty turret AI blasting friendly stations when they're trying to hit the enemy.
Saving up for the Terran destroyed next so I can have an escort for my carrier not that it's unable to handle anything on it's own.
I hope they'll hurry up and patch the memory leak and issues with the patrol missions. I can take on 100 odd ships but the game just starts lagging to hell when they all spawn in.
Finally got TC, and on my 2.1ghz, 2Gigs of Ram and X1650 Pro w/ 512 It runs like garbage... I don't know why since most of the stations are the same as Reunion, which ran fine, but some of them are so full of Poly's that my PC just chokes, so I get 5 FPS, and when I'm looking at just a planet, or a few asteroids and a Jumpgate, it couldn't run any smoother
Looks like it's back to Reunion for me :(
Especially that Terracorp HQ .. Good God, the damn thing single Handedly takes 30 Frames per second and turns it in to 6, and absolutely NO difference in performance with Shaders on High or Low, same with Textures, even Anti Aliasing turned on doesn't make it run much worse

Yeah, there should be a model detail choice. I have a similar system and PTNI HQ runs like SHIT. It suddenly turns really smooth framerate if I look away from all the stations. There's a thread that advises people to actually turn off their HUD/windows task bar in an attempt to make it run better. If you have to go to that measure to make it playable, and you can run CoD4 with no slowdown, something's fucked.

CoD4 runs great on my machine, so Yeah I agree, they should have gone the extra mile and made, at the very least, LOD's for the stations, so now I've got Reunion downloading on Steam again
Maybe we'll get lucky in a patch, 1.2 sure didn't address performance problems, that I could tell. Funny enough Terran Stations clogging up the screen seemed to run Ok, but any HQ's or some of the other newer ones that you see in Argon Space like Ore Belt and Home of Light.. Arg!
Yeah the PTNI HQ area runs quite bad in comparison with other systems.
My computer
3 ghz p4
1gb ram
x1600 agp
run the game just fine, only everything on low, but it's not like it really matters, the game is still pretty.
I'm getting this weird glitch where the skybox flickers, anyone else had this problem? Textures are aleady down to medium which solved my fps worrys but the stars randomly appearing and disappearing is quite distracting.
Rather than keep you waiting for the full set of fixes and enhancements planned for the next full patch, we have made a 1.2.1. hotfix available which addresses a performance issue that increased over time. A number of other small fixes are also included in this patch, but fixes to the plot and other missions require further testing and will be released in the 1.3 patch which we plan to deliver as soon possible.
As always you can find the update in our download section.
Attention: This update is not compatible with the Steam-version of X3TC! The Steam-client will automatically downloaded the updated files.
The hotfix should be on Steam pretty soon
The changelog:
- Performance problem and memory leak fixed
- Jumpdrive functionality to gateless sectors fixed
- Removed Argon Shipyard from Atreus HQ
- Buying reputation fixed for tractor beam factories
- Removed question mark videos when buying stations and ships
- Playership can no longer be a wingman
- Passenger transfer fixed
- Best buys/best selling price locators also work with advanced satellites
- Script editor: Fixed script engine instructions "find gate" and "get ammunition"
- Fixed warpgate selection in sector menu
If the game has been eating your RAM for breakfast then you might want to try playing again after the hotfix is installed and see what happens. It might not be a 100% fix though, but it should help somewhat for now.
Yay, another patch. I wonder what 1.3 will have in it.
Also
[sp]I just completed the infiltration where you have to rescue that Captain Jackson or whoever he is, who knows something about the #deca ships, and when I docked at the base it just said mission completed. What the fuck do I do now? Do I have to talk to someone before I can get another Terran plot mission?[/sp]
Where do you buy ATF(AGT, ATG????) ships? I can't find a single shipyard who sells them.
there isn't an atf class..
oh, the earth special defense guys ship's.
no, you can't buy them

Just wait, eventually the next part of the Terran conflict missions will pop up.
