Pitioss Dungeon
[sp]Holy shit. At first I was really enjoying it, but then I got like physically sick because of all the rotating rooms and the tilted walkways and everything. Was pretty awesome, nonetheless. Wasn't expecting anything like this in a FF game. Played for like 4 or 5 hours in one sitting to finish it, because you can't save in Dungeons and everything.[/sp]
It'd be amazing if there was a monster arena like one in 10
Is it just me or are all the royal arms a bit shit?
Is it just me or are all the royal arms a bit shit?
Most of them are crap, but some are viable in the early/mid game.
Speaking of this, I was chatting with a friend of mine who owns the game and we were discussing about how much the combat changed and MP management became non-existent.
So basically, it used to be:
1. Point Warp costs MP and doesn't refund a single point of MP.
2. Going into stasis will stun Noctis for whole few seconds, attempting to use MP while stasis will stun again. You can't get out of the stun animation until the duration is over or you get hit.
3. Royal Arms cost MP instead of health.
4. Phasing attacks costs MP proportional to how much dmg you dodged.
5. The only ways of recovering MP are: Taking cover, passive regen (very slow), dealing damage, or popping an Ether / Exlier.
6. Basically if you go into stasis, you are kind of fucked.
I wonder if you guys liked the old version I played better or the combat is already frustrating enough.
I wonder if you guys liked the old version I played better or the combat is already frustrating enough.
The combat's already frustrating enough. Noctis' auto-targeting is haphazard and inconsistent as it is, and MP is mostly a problem early game or [sp]overabusing the Ring of Lucii.[/sp] While it is cheap to be able to render most attacks ineffective once you get more Ascension slots honed and more MP overall, the game makes up for it with an awful battle camera (especially in tight spaces, the autocorrect feature has actually screwed me over more than without it) and Noctis' bad habit of initiating attacks you may not want to pull off or leaving himself wide-open for a beating at the worst times just with a press of the Attack.
Chapter 13 is done and gone on my part. [sp]That wasn't anywhere near as bad as people were making it out to be but I can see why criticism is raised since it took me like THREE or more hours to finally get through it. Bothers me that Ravus just appears dead with no context, compared to everyone else turned into daemons, but what also bothers me is the big reveal of Prompto being a Magitek Trooper.. sorta? Like, they were made from people infected into Daemons and all, but Prompto shows no signs of being a Daemon or anything and it's not brought up again after the reveal despite his dialogue implying he knew the entire time. It's kind of a mess of trying to even understand what's going on there, like it was a twist thrown in at the last minute so he has some bigger weight like Gladiolus and Ignis.[/sp]
Also in Chapter 14, [sp]Noctis' man head on his teen body just looks fucking ridiculous. It seems genuinely oversized compared to his normal head.[/sp]
I... actually kinda like the idea of XV as a growing game. Given how much effort went into bits of it, adding HUGE parts to it is actually acceptable.
Very interested in what kind of online coop gameplay we'll get. Also, being able to play as the companion characters will be amazing.
Any date on the holiday DLC yet?

This! I like how the face looks, but the body makes him look ridiculous.
Would you recommend this game to a typical RPG player?
I was never a huge fan of Final Fantasy; but I enjoy a wide variety of RPGs from Baldur's gate to Dark Souls.
Probably not. I'd ask again once some of the update stuff they just announced actually came out.
It's not that XV is terrible or anything, in my opinion, but it's definitely unrefined and in some ways feels like the game got hit with the Christmas rush. The open world aspect, though repetitive, is pretty much the best part of the game, because the later story stuff gets to be painfully dull after one hell of a climatic moment.
I still feel like the entire Imperial continent and the rest of Altissia beyond one large maze-like block were meant to be explored at one point, but rushed development turned the former into a [sp]literal[/sp] train ride across the nation.
Yeah, the game is great but I can't believe how repetitive some of the side quests are, like collecting dog tags for Dave and just having to do multiple collection quests for certain people etc.
I wish they had more variety. I just do a few side quests then the main quest so I don't get too bored.
I'm not sure if I'll replay the game on New game+ after the additions / fixes because of the repetitiveness.
I can't fucking believe that Cidney has like 10x the plot significance than Luna
You only see Luna like what.. 10x?
I was driving around at night and arenea jumped out of a dropship to help me kill an iron giant, so clearly making here a more permanent squad member wouldn't be too hard.

aeiou fantasy XV
Having any party members other than the main guys would have made sense
I was really enjoying this game, but for some reason, after I went to Altissia, I lost the drive to play. Maybe because I spent so much time in the main area leveling up with side quests and what not.

Yeah I know that feel, I often lose the drive to play when a game sends me away from an area I've spent ages in.
Altissia is probably the most wasted money I've seen in a game in a looong time
If there's one thing I can give XV unbiased credit for, it's the soundtrack. Sometimes it's a little too much like Yoko's work in Kingdom Hearts, but other times I swear there's a co-composer or that she's harkening back to her pre-KH days with some rather surprisingly varied tracks. It's all great stuff.
Altissia is probably the most wasted money I've seen in a game in a looong time
Altissia is a bit underwhelming for all the hype building up to it, admittedly, and it's way too much of a maze of buildings and pathways when there's only a handful of actual interactive elements in the entire place. But it's also the last semblance of any of the game's open nature before the plot barrels down the route of linearity and feeling incomplete.
Well, got the Ultima Blade, now i'm trying to finish Castlemark Tower. Amusingly none of the encounters respawned after I went through most of it previously.
I'm going to hate the block maze section though, already fighting the first Red Giant.

Surprise, the dungeon boss and the last Royal Arm are inaccessible until the game's completed.
Fuck you game.

Is it actually blocked or are you talking about that other locked door? I beat that dungeon earlier today after completing the game, but it took me going through the block maze like 5 times to find the actual boss cause I kept ending up in the red giant room. Good xp at least, I kept getting summons

You can absolutely get it before beating the game. If you meet the red giants, you went the wrong way.
You can absolutely get it before beating the game. If you meet the red giants, you went the wrong way.
Welp, I already beat the game anyway. Was hoping to get that Royal Arm for consistency's sake but I guess I misread the guide for the dungeon.
Wow so I finally beat the game. It was amazing but everything past chapter 8 is garbage [sp]aside from the fight with Ifrit. Was specially disappointed with the fight with Ardyn and the Leviathan fight being significantly less epic than they should have been.[/sp] Chapter 13... don't even get me started.
Spoiler tags yo.
I hope character customization comes soon, I find all black outfits kind of bland and was dissapointed seeing that there isn't that many outfits to have

I wanted to give Noctis some nice knight armor or something too

It's really obvious they left the game open for DLC extras and things like costumes, and you know people would buy them up.
Personally, though, (endgame spoilers) [sp]I want the Royal Raiment suit without the extra kingly crap ontop, like in the final boss fight.[/sp]
