So you're automatically assuming I hate jrpg's just because I don't like things in 1 game?
I'm assuming you don't like jrpgs because your complaints are about features that are commonly in jrpgs.

I read more reviews about the game and I come to a conclusion that the Developers even if didn't made a "glorious" FF game like they wanted to be, it have a lot of heart. Call me a fool, but it have a familiar feeling like when I was play a Persona 3D game. Of course I never played the game [i am waiting the PC Version], but it is FAR better than the pretentious FF13. I hope I am right about this.
Wow, you can fucking drift with your Chocobo. I love this game.

But it's still a good game in its own right, and certainly the best singleplayer FF game in a long while in my opinion. I still wouldn't hold it favorably compared to some of the classics (basically FFX and before to me), but they definitely tried even with tumultuous development up to the very end. [editline]2nd December 2016[/editline]
If combat is like that turn on wait mode, as it adds good shit to combat only and has a skill tree. Turn on through Options > Combat > Wait Mode
I have Wait Mode on, albeit I only really use it for Libra and then go to town. I've been holding my own fairly well, no deaths so far - but then i've made sure not to charge at the ridiculous super enemies/bosses head-on. And this game is rife with no-lube surprises if you don't watch it.
Just finished it myself. I dunno about it not holding up to the older ones, but that might be because it's such a different thing, for better or worse. It definitely has its frustrating bits, but it has some fucking strong moments in spite of them. I thought it was pretty good.
I don't know who designed Chapter 9 but the entire chapter was fucking awful, especially the end. What the fuck was that? That wasn't even fun, it was just tedious.
Wow, you can fucking drift with your Chocobo. I love this game.
Want extra mileage outta your Chocobo? Whenever one dose of sprint comes to an end, do a forward drift and a jump glide immediately, you will maintain the sprint speed momentum enough for the stamina to start regenerating. Enjoy your infi-sprint!
I don't know who designed Chapter 9 but the entire chapter was fucking awful, especially the end. What the fuck was that? I've been there to see it go from "fucking awful" to "decently tolerable", especially when most of the stuff in the chapter is meant to lead up to that one plot moment. Do tell what's in your mind, just spoiler tag it.
the fight was just incredibly poorly designed. [sp] I thought you had to target fins for weak points but apparently you just hit/shoot garuda in the face for 8 minutes until he makes you do QTEs? the camera was incredibly bad for the entire fight, nothing made sense. why the hell am i space goku? what's even happening? not to mention the plot is just a big ol' bowl of spaghetti right now. i have no idea what the hell is happening and no one else does either.[/sp] i still love the combat so i'll play it and do what i can but that chapter is a sore spot so far apparently ch12-13 is even worse not to mention now i'm escorting this idiot around a dungeon and i have to go slowly i hate going slowly
Chapter 9+ spoilers [sp]You used to not be able to skip the gondola boat rides, plus when you first got there, by design there is no quest marker/map until you found the cafe to encourage exploration AKA everyone got lost as shit. We literally needed a cheat sheet to navigate Altissia, I kid you not. As for the boss fight... I don't know how much they change in the last month or so, but the fight shouldn't last very long the moment you become space goku, the initial struggle was supposed to be the main course of the fight. You should stare at the loading screens post-chapter 9, it should give some visual clue about what is happening. Regarding Iggy going blind, players are supposed to have sympathy for him as if some consequential accident happened in real life, and chapter 10 is some sad bro to bro moment but honestly it didn't work because noone gives a shit and Gladio's whining just adds to the annoyance. I'm sure some players out there appreciate the slow moment.[/sp]
Honestly, the fight system's quality feels like it entirely depends on how many enemies there are and how aggressive they are. A normal battle against a standard group of enemies, perfectly fine. Arguably besides your teammates getting KOed, a one-on-one with certain tough enemy types is plausible. But the moment you're against really aggressive foes it feels like no matter how you approach them, how hard you hit them, or how fast you attack so you can prep a Phase, they always seem to hit you when you're open or Noctis just happens to do a lengthy attack animation so he gets his shit smacked.
If you name the "aggressive" mobs giving you trouble maybe I can drop a tip or two on how to go against them.
Not a fan of fighting a group of enemies and POOF, twenty fucking guards fall from the sky.
I get that it might be too early to ask, considering games like these seem to take hundreds of hours to fully understand what it's all about, but is the story any good? And is the framerate at least a solid 30 on a standard PS4?
I haven't played the game myself, but Digital Foundry have made a couple of videos about how the game runs. Apparently the standard PS4 runs it at 30fps but has bad frame pacing issues which makes the game feel really stuttery.

That said, I thought the super saiyan section was dope as fuck. It almost felt as if the initial fight was intentionally annoying in order to make you feel even more like a god when the next section began. This song helped immensely as well. I mean goddamn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XphDxFS2WWw[/sp] Chapter 13+ [sp]Ravus was the toughest fight so far. Mostly because I was roughtly 10 levels below recommended. I wasted too many healing items on my friends who would just get repeatedly one-hit-killed anyway. Never got a game over though. I'm currently right before the final fight and I'm back into the open world to level up. I'm hyped as hell to stomp the face of that POS sitting on MY throne.[/sp]

Ok maybe I did decide to piss it off every time, don't know whether this affects the initial fight.[/sp] If you come across an accessory that prevents OHKO, DON'T SELL THEM. You don't really need it as you got something called "being careful" but your damn buddies don't. Trust me you will want to equip them with one of these for post-game dungeons and high level hunts lest you want to burn all your phoenix downs.

If you are having trouble with Magitek troopers poking you with bullets, toss an EMP grenade in their direction. Just don't miss. (If they are not weak to thunder then use whatever they are weak to)

I can't wait to see what speedruns of this look like, with optimized combat it'll be ridiculous. Although a majority of it will be strategic magic use.
I can't wait to see what speedruns of this look like, with optimized combat it'll be ridiculous. Although a majority of it will be strategic magic use.
I think the biggest hurdles with a speedrun are A.) very limited magic, and B.) leveling due to how time-consuming even staying at lodgings can be. Plus random events and such.
I'm pretty sure you level up if you don't stay at a lodge when you progress through the story
I'm pretty sure you level up if you don't stay at a lodge when you progress through the story
Oh right, that too. Chapter endings auto-level you, and the first chapter ending even conveniently gives you [sp]a free rest at the 2.0x EXP boosting Galdin inn that normally costs 10'000 gil.[/sp]
NG+ runs might be more popular. [editline]2nd December 2016[/editline] Even with just Fire, though, considering you can tri and quad cast it for like 50gil per potion, it's still ridiculously powerful.
Looks like Noctis attempt of scaring a scorpion was not very successful. [t]https://scontent.ftxl1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/t31.0-8/15289196_10211417151086754_1189811300467822034_o.jpg[/t] I really like this snapshot function, there are some hilarious pictures.
You say that like we haven't spent our magic to nuke the shit out of Hunts.
Oh, alright. I find that using Magic against agile mobs to be very unwieldy, but gun-toting Magiteks tend to clump up and stand still so they are the perfect targets for weak magics. Before the skill tree revamp, Magic doesn't have any boosting ascensions and it was capped at 99 power. Flasks were scarce as well.
chapter 9 was a rollercoaster for me the area was beautiful aesthetically but a nightmare to traverse, while the boss was incredibly cool and cinematic but the fight dragged on for so long it turned into absolute garbage very fast. the game redeemed itself pretty quickly afterwards though. i'm currently [sp]traversing the dungeon with blind ignus and the game is doing well at making me feel bad for him.[/sp] the game just kinda jumps a lot in quality i find. many areas look breathtaking while some bits look like a ps2 game, the animations look very nice but glitch out a lot, the story missions are exciting with huge set pieces while the side-quests are mostly boring mmorpg fetch quests. you can tell the game has had a long and rocky development. i'm still enjoying it a lot regardless.
it's fine until like chapter 9 and then it reads like someone's fanfic
Chapter 11+ spoiler Anyone felt that the story would be better if [sp]Noct & gang reclaim throne by fighting the Imperial instead of some m'lady ginger[/sp]
boy they were right, chapter 13 really is a slog
