Another one of those "omg this is awesome wonder when will it come out?" to "holy shit haven't heard about this for a year now it is coming out in less than a month?!?"
So ready to get immersed in this world finally. Can't wait to see what kind of insane emergent shit happens
Well that was sudden
Kind of surprised that the devs aren't selling marketing the enemy AI and behavior and the ecosystem system more. They're definitely the most impressive features of the game. Well, that and the physics-based procedural animation, and the art style, and the music...
It finally happened! I finally clicked this thread to see if there's a release date yet and there was one!
Wasn't expecting it so soon, this is great news!
Oh my fucking god fuck yes I fucking love this. Sadly not for my birthday but still in the same month!
Preorder is up, 20% off!

Excited to run from murder lizards/birds/other monstrosities tomorrow.
Looks like some reviews are starting to trickle in.

Seems that most of the complaints are based around difficulty, which is not surprising. I hope you all are ready to git gud.
30 HOURS!!!?! I'm not sure if I'm prepared for torture to that extend!
The first few hours will tell...

Does polygon have a video of them playing like the doom one? I'm sure it would be gold.
Will this be the dark souls of eco-survival sims? /s
The reception sounds great, the game is definitely an acquired taste as I was hoping it would be. Raw survival in an unforgiving world. I'm more excited for this than a couple triple A releases from the last few weeks
Less than 24 hours to go! Have this gif that perfectly sums up Rain World.

Caved in and bought the game, thank you Matto for making this thread, I have been following it since you made it, and without it I wouldn't have known about the game.
Can't wait to play it tomorrow and die ten times in a row.
I could swear last I checked steam it said it needed another 12 hours before it'd unlock, but it's out to play right NOW. Installing it now.
I saw the thread and decided it would be good to see how much it is on steam, and maybe buy it if it's €20 or less. Turns out I had already pre-ordered the game and forgotten that I did.
Oops. v:v:v

Yeah! It seems like pre-ordering gets you the game sooner..?

The game is every bit intense as I was hoping. Currently at no deaths but boy have I gotten close.
Every time I get a bit too confident the game seems poised to punish me for it. Almost drowned in the floodwaters in the Drainage System because I thought I was hot shit and went through the region gate halfway through a cycle.
Of course, a green lizard was camping the only way forward and by the time I got by it the rain was almost on me. I was charging through the place at max speed overtaking lizards as they all started to ignore me in favor of getting to safety. Somehow I stumbled upon a shelter just before the flood hit.
This is exactly the kind of procedural experience that I was hoping for!

Another good one was kiting four lizards in a big vertical room the first zone, running circles around em like I own the place, until I [sp]grab onto a pole that wasn't quite right[/sp] and everything goes to shit. Luckily I had a spear with me and so I stabbed the bastard in a blind panic.
Remember - always know where your spear is!
I'm not really seeing the complaints about the difficulty, the game is challenging and you'll die very quickly if you're careless, but otherwise predators are easy to avoid, at least in the first levels
It's true that the game doesn't do a good job at explaining certain mechanics though, there's even a tutorial area so "letting the players figure it out on their own" really isn't an excuse
This is that rare window that the pre-purchase discount is still on but you can download and play right now.
Bought it~~~ hope it suits my taste
The Shaded Citadel region is a messed up place, please let me out of here.[sp]fucking spider centipedes man[/sp]

I hate those fucking things so much.
They're setting off phobias I didn't even know I had.
just :disgust:

Ooh, found a useful hidden feature. [sp] You can eat rocks by picking them up and holding X/Square/Whatever the pick up item key is for a while, then regurgitate them by holding X/Square/Pickup again. Guess you can use it to store an extra throwable in case of emergency.[/sp]
OK, I'm fucking pissed. For some reason the B button (xbox 360 controller) is also an 'ok' button. This means if you pause and move the control stick at all, the 'exit' option is highlighted, and if you were to press 'back' by instinct, it actually OK's the exit and kicks you to the main menu. I've lost progress twice due to this (both trying to get to a safe room in the second area). I don't want to question the dev's intelligence because I am enjoying the game a lot, but there isn't even a fucking confirmation
I'm not even mad about deaths (I had this epic one in the second area) - [sp]I literally had the safe room in my sights, running from 2 white lizards, no items. I leap into the middle of the room where a pop bug is and it blows me in a PERFECT arc over a wall separating me and the lizards. What ridiculous luck. I shout YES as I jump towards the safe room entrance and land squarely in a pole trap plant. Fuck. Not sure how I feel about how you have to survive your way to a safe room, I was expecting maybe 1 or 2 rooms before you find a safe room, not 4-5... kind of bored of the first area now.[/sp] The game is actually more punishing than I expected.
If there's one thing the game does right it's the feeling of tension and surviving on a low rung of the food chain. If you're daydreaming and not thinking about your safety at all times, you're going to die.
edit: Jesus fuck, do I have the worst luck in the world? (second area) [sp]not only does the same cunt lizard consistently spawn in the room directly after the gate (so much for random ecosystem), but this has to be the 10th time I've failed to get to the safe room in the cunting sewers. I get you have to jump along the poles on the ceiling, but it's hard when you have a lizard tailing you that can hit you with its tongue before you have time to prepare a jump. I feel like I'm a skilled player, but the game just keeps on fucking me. Doesn't help that this area almost requires an abundance of spears in order to make most of the jumps. Starting to reallllly get sick of the control scheme, all too often I'm fumbling the most basic of ledge climbs/walljumps. This game is unfortunately becoming rapidly unfun for me, which is a shame since I've been looking forward to it for so long. How in the fuck I'm going to get past that tall pipe (spear jump required) and trap plant (also a spear required) to get to the safe room[/sp]
edit2: I fucking made it. [sp]I realised by accident the blue mushrooms make time move in slow motion and make you oddly more agile. Literally wall-jumped off a white lizard's face, did a triple somersault into the trap plant and threw a spear right in its fucking face(?). Rebounded perfectly into the safe room. This sensation of final victory is better than cumming, do drugs kids[/sp]
So quick question here, just played like 30mins:
So I can't really run around exploring? Cuz it seems that when the rain comes you are fookin' ded if u don't find shelter.
Rizzler, if its not too late, don't go in that direction! If you go the same way I did, only more pain awaits you!
After drainage, I went [sp]down, into the hell known as Air Filtration[/sp]

Yeah, each cycle seems to be about 15 minutes. I recommend travelling in "loops" where you get some food and then explore some places to fill out your map. Eventually you'll stumble upon another shelter. You've got to get a feel for when you need to give up on searching and return to the shelter you know.
