Need some help in [sp]Shaded Citadel, I came in here from Industrial Complex and feel pretty ill-equipped. Using the small geckos for light doesn't seem to work as some crawly spider things end up snuffing him out then poor Slugcat right after. Any tips? Not sure either if I should keep pressing on or back off and go back to Industrial Complex. I managed to get into Chimney Canopy earlier but wanted to check out the Citadel instead. God this game is guuuuuuud[/sp]
I love [sp]Shaded Citadel because it is the safest area out of all regions IF you know where you are going.[/sp] To traverse the area effectively, you will need to [sp]punch a scavenger in the gut and steal their light orb if your Slugcat can't glow yet.[/sp] Your objective is to get to [sp]Shoreline if you are following the tutorial robot[/sp]. You can get there through [sp]Garbage Wastes or Shaded Citadel, both accessed from Industrial Complex.[/sp] ---- LATEGAME SPOILER: [DEL]Five Pebbles Smuggling Operation: [sp]Is there a way to steal jellyfish neurons from pebbles without going thru the last room? (I fucked up my first pass thru) I would like to have some mental preparations before I use a passage.[/sp][/DEL] Edited: Found the above answer on my own: [sp]Run Underhang in reverse, back through Memory Crypt, Citadel to Shoreline. Quicker yet exciting route![/sp] Video below contains spoiler!! [sp]I got marked by Pebbles before meeting Moon for the first time. I don't know if the dialogue changes as I murdered her on my first run. Nevertheless, enjoy.[/sp]
The fact the game seems to encourage abusing the scene transition pipes to evade enemies by spamming my way back and forth until they get bored or fuck up bad is really annoying. It feels cheap. A lot of choices in this game's design feel like they were well thought out from a lore perspective, but not thought about at all from a gameplay perspective.
I believe you get a split second invulnerability when coming out of a transition pipe so yeah they deliberately designed it to be abused. I actually find it alright since it reminds me of the whack-a-mole moment, but if I have to do it constantly for 3 minutes because a brawl is happening on each end then yeah it gets annoying, but I don't see bad in using it to dodge 2 vultures. --- Late-game story spoiler: [sp]So I delivered the jellyfish neurons to Moon, looks like you need more than 4. I've recorded the conversation when you gift the neurons (1~4): https://youtu.be/kXSy7BZi-KU Route used: Five Pebbles > Exterior > Memory Crypt > Shaded Citadel > Shoreline. I am allowed as many trips as I want, unlike what was suggested on Steam forums and guide.[/sp] Video below is a slight spoiler if you haven't been to Exterior. Boring gameplay anyways just showing a path I used. Anyways, I think I'm ready to retire from this game. Good luck with your future Slugcat endeavors!
Those orange lizards in Underhang are the bane of my fucking existence. I've killed or seen die at least twenty of those things and my adorable little slugcat bloodlust won't be sated until I kill at least twenty more. Now [sp]Daddy Long Legs/Big Daddies[/sp] are supposed to be "theoretically" killable but I don't see that happening any time soon.
Now [sp]Daddy Long Legs/Big Daddies[/sp] are supposed to be "theoretically" killable but I don't see that happening any time soon.
[sp]Those guys are tough, but can be killed with a single spear. As long as it goes through the core. The problem is, their limbs are almost always in the way. I got sick of one blocking the door in underhang and managed to spear the core and its lights went out. Might've gotten lucky and it counts each of the little spheres that make up the core as separate parts so maybe the spear hit several of them when it stuck.[/sp]
Then don't try to exploit it? Pretty simple.
That's not the point.
This game keeps reeling me back in damn it [sp]I just found out you can actually befriend most creatures, including lizards, and they'll actually follow you around and shit. That's what "The Friend" achievement is about. Which means I just have to try and build my own lizard army now. Apparently you need to either save them, get them to eat your kills (other lizards/flying octopus things) or keep throwing food into their mouth when they open it to get them to like you more. It's worth choosing a territorial lizard that will stick around the same area because I think it'd be very difficult to befriend one in a single cycle. From what I understand one of the future content updates is going to have some kind of sandbox mode and I just can't wait[/sp]
Sandbox mode would be my jam, I think the game would benefit from a sandbox more than anything.
I'm trying to think of how a rainless sandbox mod would work while still be fun and offer a bit of structure. Maybe every 10-15 minutes or so your hunger meter is depreciated and if you don't have at least two units of food in you, you die? Your hunger bar also flashes two minutes and then one minute before that happens, or something like that. The karma gates are then all set to the bottom level or whatever. A sandbox with no hunger and no rain would also be cool but I'm thinking of like the survival mode from Dead Rising 1.

Or keep rain but make cycles longer and require no or less food? Idk. Sandbox mode with custom options would be king, then you can play how you want.
Put in a level editor and steam workshop integration. A man can dream. I would totally play the fuck outta this game again if a mod makes it play like Spelunky. With the procedural generated map and all, level exits replaced with hibernation chamber that moves to next level. Food and rain mechanic still intact. Why isn't this a thing. why............
So I've been looking at this game and I'm still unsure. Is there any good youtube playthroughs I could watch a little of?
Put in a level editor and steam workshop integration. A man can dream.
I would stab someone for an editor. Having beat the game I want an even harder experience. Also someone modded their game so that the lizards are now giant slug things.
Sluggo is too fast imo, but that's really great either way.
They mentioned a level editor a while ago, no idea if it's still planned. I know right now they have multiplayer and other narrative arcs planned (one with the slugcat pups, and they mentioned they'd like to have one centered around living with a tribe) The game gets a lot easier once you get the assault rifle though [sp]it's a gif from the dev[/sp]
I should have put a lump of coal in my ass because after Five Pebbles that'd thing pop out as a diamond. I am never, ever, EVER doing that shit again. God fucking damn it. [sp]Next time I'll just take the back route like a scrub[/sp]
Patch is out with some very welcome changes. I'm a fan of the larger lung capacity. You drown so quick even when not pressing jump. The food regen progressing even on death is nice too.
Gameplay improvements: * “stuck in holes” fix - disconnected exits will no longer snag you * subtle backlit slugcat in low visibility swimming situations * quicker turning around in tunnels * larger lung capacity while swimming * nerfed the more intense waterfalls in Shoreline to prevent repeated drownings * more pearls near Scav tolls in Garbage Wastes * more food in central Garbage Wastes * more food in central Shaded Citadel * more karma flowers in world * karma gate requirements on the Shaded Citadel, Drainage System and Underhang side were lowered to prevent players becoming stuck in challenging regions * food / karma flowers regeneration now ticks forward on deaths (helps eliminate stuck / starvation situations at low karma) * players will now keep map progress between deaths (Id say 99.5% of people asked for this) * map now features gate karma symbols and shelter icons when locations are discovered * karma depletion on game exit removed if done within 30 seconds of sleep cycle * full karma drop on exit bug fixed (that was a brutal one, sheesh!) * intro cinematic is now skippable by holding start / esc * for players having issues with Grey Screen of Death and starting the game from sav files, you can now entirely skip loading the intro by holding "s" when pressing "New Game." hopefully this helps until we have a real fix! * many many minor room fixes Stability improvements: * map loading bug fixed (was causing the corrupted savs, ugh) * gate crashing bug fixed * assorted stability improvements
It helps though there's some weird stuff going on with swimming. I know things like pressing jump while swimming to go faster drains your oxygen, and so does jumping in the water while your stamina is already low My theory, and though I haven't done proper testing my own experience seems to confirm it, is that with each change of direction slugcat tries to make another swim stroke which drains a bit of oxygen, so if you try to finetune your movement by repeatedly tapping the movement keys it's going to drain your oxygen a lot faster. Hold a direction or time it right and you'll see underwater sections seem to be a lot easier to pass consistently Anyway these all seems good changes that make the game quite a bit easier without really messing with the whole experience
[sp]"I finished Rain World before it became a casual game."[/sp] Good changes for those who aren't expert at platforming but food is never going to be a problem now isn't it. Karma gate change is great, I used to be cautious and exit a dangerous region before my karma dropped too low. Swimming changes r cool so now Drainage System isn't drown hell anymore. The core issues are still there but one step at a time I guessssss
My theory, and though I haven't done proper testing my own experience seems to confirm it, is that with each change of direction slugcat tries to make another swim stroke which drains a bit of oxygen, so if you try to finetune your movement by repeatedly tapping the movement keys it's going to drain your oxygen a lot faster. If Slugcat isn't swimming optimally then yeah I give it a little tap but that's it, I don't make it swim zigzag that's just inefficient pathing.
To be honest, slugcat is an omnivore so food logically shouldn't be super mega scarce anyway if you take into consideration the amount of predators that exist in the game. TBH I think the game needs more non-predatory creatures. My first encounter with scavengers and then this one little race when I first entered Shaded Citadel, I was so confused about if they were friend or foe, and it was a really interesting interaction to have with this unknown creature.
I only recently found out you can become friends with the lizards if you give them other creatures to eat. They'll follow you around (even in shelters to sleep) and basically act like a little bodyguard for you. Wish I could take this guy with me everywhere. So I finished the game... I think. I might have encountered a bug. Endgame spoilers [sp] Was my game supposed to exit when I reached the light? [/sp]
So I finished the game... I think. I might have encountered a bug. Endgame spoilers [sp] Was my game supposed to exit when I reached the light? [/sp]
The game won't pull any meta shit afaik, so it is probably a crash, check your install directory for a crash log. Speaking of that, my game crashed the first time I met Five Pebbles after being stuck and lost in that hell for 4 hours. :suicide: It was 6am in the morning so I just said fuck it and went to sleep.
If I never have to go through farm array again it'll still be too soon
I only recently found out you can become friends with the lizards if you give them other creatures to eat.
It's a shame that between lack of food to tame them and scavengers not being big fans of inter-species friendships there's only a handful of places where you can get some good use out of them, but they're nice to have when the opportunity comes So far the hardest I managed to tame is a red one (the small variant), I've been trying with a pack of orange ones on sky islands with no luck so far, those guys are vicious
I leapt across a gap only to be 1px too far from the edge to make the jump, but not far enough from the edge to not get sucked into the wall and stuck. GG, lost all my karma, thanks magic collision bug.
Sky Islands is fun. There's so much going on, it's like Rain World fight club. Bats seem to be everywhere, too.
Update 533 Apart from the bug fixes and tweaks, I recently started dipping a toe in new content as well: The next update won't be mainly a content update I don't think, but we definitely should take the opportunity to throw in a few new things to encounter in the world!
